Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Overall great, but poor noise control. My husband and I stayed here on a one night over stay in Dubuque. We got in around 10:30 and planned on just sleeping in this hotel. However, around 11pm people on the floor around us started letting their doors slam shut. I do not know if they were all in the same party and visiting each other or what. This went on until at least 12:45. That is the last time I looked at the clock (still awake from the noise). Also, there was a dog in a room near ours that barked in the night and in the early morning. The hotel specifically states they have quiet hours from either 10 or 11 pm until 7 am. There were even signs posted on the elevators and in the lobby about this. I was very disappointed that I got poor sleep at a hotel that points out they have quiet hours. Also, when we arrived that the hotel. We checked in and went straight to our room. Both room keys did not work on our door. My husband left me in the hallway with our things while he went back to the desk to get the problem fixed. The girl at the desk didn't even recognize him. We had just checked in 2 minutes prior. She also told him that was not the correct room number. As if somehow it was our fault. However, the issue got resolved. The keys got fixed to work on the room we were assigned. Overall, the room was clean and updated. The water was hot, the shower head was great. We connected to the wifi without a problem. It is a great PLACE to stay. I am just hoping that this was one bad LOUD experience. I have stayed at other Holiday Inn Express hotels with much better sleep, so I am willing to stay at one again. Maybe just not this one. We did not use the pool, fitness, or eat breakfast here so that did not come into consideration. Location was convenient. January 22, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Only so-so I booked this hotel for an impromptu visit with my boyfriend to the Dubuque area. Our stay was not the greatest for reasons both in and out of the hotel's control. When we got there to check in there was sign staying the staff was in the pool area and to use the courtesy phone to call for them. So we did. And waited five minutes before anyone answered or showed up to turn off the loud ringing the phone caused at the front desk. While we were waiting we noticed the sheer number of adolescent children throughout the main floor, many in bathing suits and dripping all of over the place while others just ran amuck and messed with the hotel's baggage cart and breakfast area. Turns out there was a tournament of some kind the same weekend we were there. When the front desk personnel finally did arrive back at the desk there were about three of us waiting to check in. The clerk did not apologize for the delay and was a bit curt when I mentioned I did not have my loyalty card. She told me she was not authorized to search for my loyalty information. I am still not sure I got credit for the stay. We left for dinner and did not get back until after the quiet hours had supposedly started. There were still quite a few kids running around the hotel, including a gaggle of teen girls giggling and squealing and carrying on below our window at midnight. We could hear everything through the walls and ceiling all night, including the constant movement, talking, and/or snoring of our neighbors. Additionally, the in-room refrigerator made quite a bit of noise whenever it would kick on - more than it should have. My dorm fridge wasn't nearly that loud. It was so loud all night that I only got about 3 hours of sleep. While the kids and the noise were annoying, we realize both could only be managed to a point. The fact that our room wasn't clean could have been helped. There was a lot of hair on the floor by the bed and in the bathroom and it definitely did not belong to me or my boyfriend. The breakfast in the morning was also very disappointing. We had been planning on eating at the hotel to save some money, but after attempting to eat the breakfast foods provided we changed our minds. Normally we have better experiences at Holiday Inn. This was a disappointment and frankly, overpriced for the services provided, the lack of cleanliness, and the unpalatable breakfast. January 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Two Week Stay I was on a business trip and stayed at the hotel for two weeks. The staff was very helpful, and I was able to do necessary business related work in the evenings without a lot of noise. The hot breakfast with a variety of choices daily was a great way to start the day. The only things I would recommend are to have some non-sugar types of cereal choices, such as Rice Crispies or Cheerios. Also, I found the beds to be much softer than I like. I have stayed at many Holiday Inns and found all the beds to be lacking firmness. It would be nice if a two-bed room had one bed that was firmer, just like they offer choices between firm and soft pillows that are easily identified on the pillow cases. January 21, 2015

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor sleeper sofa and "NO" front desk service We stayed at this hotel the last weekend in Dec. Nobody was at the front desk to check us in, although we could hear the from desk agent gossiping with housekeeping and we were unable to get their attention for over 10 mins. During this time, another front desk agent, Anthony I think his name was, walked by and didn't address us at all. We didn't know he worked there until I walked around the corner and knocked on the Adminstration door, when he walked out and said they should have turned a sign that said I needed to use the house phone to "call" for assistance. Later that day, upon returning to hotel, another family was waiting to check in...and again the sign wasn't turned to direct the guest to call the front desk agent. Horrible service and back-up plan. The springs in the sleeper sofa were so poor, my 10 year old that weighs about 70 lbs was not comfortable. She slept on the sofa instead of the pullout bed. Although we paid extra for the sleeper sofa, we booked a second room for our remaining nights so we all would have a decent nights sleep. We've stayed at this hotel nearly a dozen times when visiting Dubuque, but looks like its time to find a new hotel. Unfortunate... January 2, 2015
