Would not be writing this at all if Holiday Inn had replied to two Emails I have sent since my visit on the 8th Nov.On arrival I was given a bill for twice the amount this was resolved but not a good start, During the night the fan kept cutting in on the heating/aircon plus the duvet was not big enough for two people making for an unsettled night.In the morning after showering only to find none of the electric sockets working so could not use our own hairdryer only to be told by reception that is always happening to that room (so why wasn't it checked before ) Then the biggest disappointment was the breakfast very poor show no full English as we were expecting after being told on a previous phone call that there would be. A new and quality HI Express. The room was excellent quality, and the bathroom was much better than the usual HIExpress experience, plus the usual comfy bed and pillows.
This time I visited for leisure purposes with my family and dog, so perhaps that's why I didn't get the usual happy welcome. Not even acknowledged my IHG rewards membership, but then I looked a scruff at theweekend.
I also rang up in advance and asked for a cot as well as the bed -settee putting up, which wasn't a problem, and I reminded them that we would bring a small mutt. Absolutely no problem. Except they advertise a 'pets rate' - which is significantly more expensive than an advance rate - and despite being advertised specifically as a 'pets rate', they still add a further £10 to your bill. I cancelled and went standard rate with a dog. Much better and cheaper - and a surprising high quality of room to allow a little dog in. She was happy, too.
Still irked by the HiEx habit of two cups and two teabags, but hey, there's always breakfast...
Or rather, filthy plates and ringed cups, either greasy or stained, and some of the cutlery had more bits attached than when I finished eating. Come on, surely someone can quality check the stuff out of a dishwasher?
That said, usual HiEx sausage, beans and eggs spectacle - and yes, I would stay here again.

On business for a few days. Hotel ideal. WIFI does not allow the sending or receiving of emails, which is essential whilst on business!

I can only praise the management of this hotel. I stay in hotels, mostly Holiday Inn and associated brands, just about evry week of my working life. This hotel has to be rated in the very best of the selection. Nothing was too much trouble, the room and bathroom were immaculately clean. The bed and bedware were clean and well laid out. Highly recommended.
Plenty of parking.
It was a Holiday Inn Express so evening dining not a real facility; however plenty of places to eat around the area
I will certainly stay here again!

Booked the hotel for a single night with family (2 adults and 2 kids 2yrs and 10yrs)
sofa bed in room was not very comfortable and the springs bothered a lot during the night.
breakfast was reasonable,with lack of stuff for the vegetarians ,no potato rostis,mushrooms a must with hot English vegan breakfast.
selection of vegetarians was baked beans with toast n fruit,yogurt ,cereal for the morning.------not hot English breakfast .
car parking ample,location convenient for us to travel .
The high chair for the little baby was too outdated and she had to push and pull herself out ,very uncomfortable highchair,
for a night it was a tuned.

When we checked into room 227 we realised that the complaints that we had made about this room in July 2013 had not been addressed in any way. The air conditioning had not been repaired ,the phone still didn't work and the waste plug in the bathroom basin was still useless., The duty manager was very apologetic, but there was little that she could do at 9.00pm and as the hotel was full,l we could not be moved to another room.
Obviously maintenance of guest rooms is not high on the priority list of Holiday Inns.
I was promised that I would receive a call from head office .......
I'm still waiting.

Great location for business and airport, Holiday Inn 5 miles down the road will no doubt close as this HIX is much better.
Everything about the hotel is good, all HIX should take note.
Only small problem is I was fortunate not to have to be down for breakfast at the start. I got down at 9.30, scrambled eggs were like flakes of cardboard, sausages were cold. Asked staff for fresh told there was no more available. Staff at breakfast were less than customer focussed.
However overall great hotel would go back, if the manager is watching the reviews - just have a word with your breakfast team, breakfast should be of consistent quality whilst it is available. otherwise this would be the best HIX I have ever had to stay in!
HIX needs to remember a lot of customers stay for business and would rather be at home, little things make marks - like fresh breakfast and staff that understand that whilst we customers are there, we would rather be at home!
Overall great place and would highly recommend

Staff were great on arrival, very friendly and efficient. Room was really nice, very impressed with the shower. Unfortunately I had to sleep on the sofa bed which was very uncomfortable but the double bed provided looked nice. Breakfast was good but was missing bacon. Overall I was very happy with the hotel, the room and the service and will definitely return.

First time I've stayed in this hotel and found it very pleasant. Breakfast was good with a good variety and quality of food on offer. Didn't utilise the evening menu so can't comment.
Room was very comfortable and spacious. Only downside was the air con / heating which is provided by means of an overhead fan which, as a light sleeper, I found a bit of-putting at night.

Have used this hotel many times previously as it was brand new and as such can usually guarantee cleanliness etc, don't expect much more as its a budget hotel.
It seems the newness is wearing off, the room was not cleaned very well with a leaking sink staining the floor and the shower drain all but blocked, and the room needed airing. Felt generally as if someone else had just walked out..
Definitely standards slipping, didnt have time to complain as was in and out to a function and no time to go through the rigmarole of changing rooms etc
The cost of the bar meals is also extortionate, £12 each for burger and 12 chips!!

no-one at reception on arrival or departure.Roomreserved for us not as requested..room cold throughout stay would not go above 18.5c. Disgraceful service,given wrong information time after time. No drawers or shelves for clothing. Could not reach towels or spy hole in door I am 4feet 10.NOT RECOMMENDED until staff are more friendly and better trained.

We only stayed for one evening but the room was immaculate, clean and adequate for our needs. The staff were very polite and helpful and kept the bar open for us at gone 3.00am. Can't fault the place would stay again.

I use Holiday Inn Expresses quite a lot and my experiences of them vary from the downright awful as in Southampton West and Poole to the excellent as in Dunstable, Newcastle, and Aberdeen City.
My one-night stay here was smooth, efficient, friendly from the moment I parked the car until I drove out the following morning. The room was spacious and clean with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was standard HIE except unlike the southern counterparts, it is actually cooked!
Think I'll be back again!

I have and will continue to use the hotel but will make sure that I never stay in the room I was in again. It was on the first floor above the kitchen and I was informed on my second day that the noise that kept me awake and woke me up was the kitchen extractor fan. It sounded like a jet engine in the room! It was switched off after 11 on the first night and came on at 6 in the morning. I did mention on the morning of my second day about the noise but I was not offered a different room.
Everything else the hotel was very good.

Just off the M1 and a rural setting. The M1 is not far from the back of the hotel, my room was facing but no issues with noise. Great staff of the ones I met. Rooms good with a decent TV, food was also good.

Everything was OK except for the bathroom.
I was staying for 2 nights and on the 1st night I found that the shower gel container was empty. I reported this to at the reception desk next morning.
At the second night, I was disappointed to find that the shower gel container was still empty and now, the soap container next to the sink was also empty.
As I was leaving the following morning, I felt that it was a waste of time reporting the problem again.
Someone needs to ensure that these types of problems are quickly resolved since there are simple to solve but are a major problem for your customers.

Hotel nice and clean, room very nice, but unfortunately the breakfast lets it down a bit, I understand they cater for many at different times but iv stayed in Equal Class Hotels and they have better quality food. And a wider selection of Cooked breakfast. All I saw to be offers was Scrambled Egg (And tasted very processed) sausages and beans. No sign of Bacon or even black pudding which would be a nice touch ..

We stayed 3 nights Thursday to Sunday. The staff were very helpful. We ate at the Restaurant the first night which was quite expensive but good sized portions. Breakfast was very good every morning even at 6.30am. The beds although a little small were comfortable. The shower was excellent.
