Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by andelma Excellent service, clean and well equiped room.
As usual we had a very good experience in Holiday Inn. This was the first time we stayed in the Picardy Hotel and it is good to be welcomed by staff who smile and are interested in you.
A quiet room was provided as requested.
We were slighly disappointed with the breakfast as the menu on the table listed a large range of breakfast items but when we went to the serving area the only fruit available was grapefruit and the yogurts were in very short supply. The second morning was no better.
Dispite this, we enjoyed our stay and will stay again if the price is right.

this is my first time staying but certainly wont be the last, room quiet, warm and comfortable. We traveled to Edinburgh by bus the hotel is just a few minutes walk away, Princess Street is 2 minutes walk. breakfast was good, but if you want a cooked breakfast the choice was poor.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sandy59 Tourists From India
We are a family from India - parents and two grown up kids. We were visiting Edinburgh for probably the only time in our lives. Had read so much about the beautiful city and the Scottish highlands. We wanted a hotel centrally located, within our budget, clean, comfortable and a joy to come back after a hectic day of sightseeing. We got all that and more. Holiday Inn Express at Picardy Place is perfect. We had a great holiday and brought back lovely memories. Thank you all.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by studz bad experience
breakfast was by far the worst of any Holiday Inn Express or other similar hotels. Eggs were not fresh as the fruit. No pastry. tables were not clelaned and the TV was as loud as could be.
Also in the room, ;no soap only a dispenser which is not hygenic as one has to squeeze the container to get soal. the next person gets to catch what ever the previous uses has.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by rosered Great Hotel
This was my first visit to Edinburgh and this hotel was a good choice. It's in a good location and easily accessible to the train station and restaurants and bars. For a budget hotel it really does offer excellent service. I found everything I needed, the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean, tidy and pleasant. Great value - I had a really comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Basic but very comfortable at a good price
The hotel is very clean and though the rooms are basic everything you need is there. Would thoroughly recommend it for short stay visits or long stays on a budget. It's our hotel of choice from now on.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Burlesque room condition- maintenance
There was obvious water damage to one wall close by my side of the bed and some to the ceiling.
There was a musty, damp smell which, although not overpowering was unpleasant.
I should have requested a change of rooms, but the ground floor was convenient for my wife.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by kirstye Excellent location and service
Excellent location and service would therefore highly recommend. The views from our rooms were fantastic, the staff were always welcoming and helpful and we would all be happy to stay again. Only criticism that needs to be highlighted is the breakfast, the area is chaotic and disorganised whatever time you turn up. We varied the times throughout our 3 day stay but it was always the same. A suggestion if possible would be for a member of staff to coordinate the seating to help. Having said that it did not ruin our stay and other aspects of excellence made up for it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 fantastic location - value for money !
we were very happy overall. This is the best location for shopping. Moreover we were driving around Scotland and always needed a hotel with proper parking.
Here the parking was safe - so we could leave a lot of stuff in the car .
All in all a very good comfortable stay - everything within walking distance. A very good Indian Restaurant "Khushi" is just a 3 min walk. Unfortunately there was no show going on at Playhouse while we were staying there. The bar downstairs is also great.
The sofa bed is a let down. You should do something about it. It is not at all comfortable.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Randyrandall A couple of cold spring days in Edinburgh!
Great hotel and great location! We had a front facing room which was massive and well appointed. Staff were excellent and very accommodating when my wife was ill on the last morning and we wanted the room 'till after lunch so we could straight form the hotel to our train at Waverley. Only gripe was was the breakfast. The venue was very crowded (we sampled it at different times and it was the same) and VERY hot! The menu was the same as all other Holiday Inns - a bit limited and not as good as rivals.
Overall - good, thanks for a pleasant stay!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ali84 If I just could have opened the windows...
I booked my room by the last minute, so unfortunately I didn't have the chance to book a non smokers room...
If I could just had been able to open the window to air the room a little bit it would have been much better... Of course it was smelly, a bit disgusting that.
Other than that and crowded breakfast everything was fine, and it's not my first time in the hotel.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ukdave A good base for enjoying Edinburgh
We stayed at this hotel for it's convenience in seeing Edinburgh for our first time. It is conveniently placed for all the main sights, the main railway station (Waverley) and is surrounded by some good value restaurants and bars. It is right opposite the Playhouse Theatre, and the Omni Centre so is therefore well capable of satisfying most entertainment needs. As to the hotel itself:- It is a pleasant looking building, the staff are in the main welcoming & friendly, the rooms are quite nice but certainly qualify as small, they are not especially well heated (and it was extremely cold whilst we were there) and they are not well sound-proofed. On our first night there we heard almost everything that went on in the next room, and they were certainly enjoying themselves keeping warm in the time-honoured fashion!
We had breakfast there each morning, and it was tasty but was certainly a little on the crowded side with little room between the tables, which meant that you could not have a peaceful breakfast as someone was almost always pushing past your chair.
Would we stay there again - Yes but I would compare it a little more carefully.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Charby Great City Centre location
We did have a lovely time, the staff were welcoming too. We felt the space was used well and a great location. However thought there was a limited choice at breakfast of hot food, although there was alternatives of cold cereal, yoghurts and some pastries.
The room was comfortable, however the sound proofing was terrible. We were located at the first room, so could hear the partian doors banging throughout the evening and night of other guests going to their rooms. There was also discusssions outside our room that we could quite clearly hear through the walls/door.
I would have also thought it was not appropirate to have to pay if you had driven in order to use the car park, the hotel was expensive enough without the cost of car parking.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by DavidM2013 A good choice of Edinburgh hotel
Close to the city centre, convenient for my office, comfortable room.
Could do with a little less illumination in the room, ended up switching off all the electric items ( radiator, TV etc. ) and shoving a towel under the door. Sadly this seems to be the norm in British hotels - it's almost as if they don't want you to sleep :-)
The floorboards are very squeaky; must be fun for the person in the room below.
Choice of food for dinner is limited, but there're plenty of great restaurants within striking distance.
All in all, 8/10
