Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Convenient stay
We booked in to the Edinburgh Premier In as we were going to show at the Playhouse. The location is excellent for this purpose - the Playhouse is across the road - and the walk from the train station was short.
We didn't spend a lot of time in the room itself - only really to change and sleep - but it was nicely presented.
The only real disappointment was to breakfast. The buffet and dining areas are very tight and we felt there was very little choice in regards to the food. I wanted a cooked breakfast, but had to make do with sausages and cold scrambled eggs as nothing else was ready.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by saltireblue1 Are you a smoker
If you are a smoker you will like the top floor. I thought this was illegal in Scotland but as soon as I came out of the lift I could smell the disgusting smell of stale smoke. I was never given the opportunity to take a 'non smoking' room.
Complained and was moved to the ground floor. No apology for the inconvenience, just a surly change of room.
No air conditioning either which is an issue in the summer, even in Edinburgh.
Hotel was not a good experience
Other than the hotel, Edinburgh is fantastic.

overall a very good overnight stay it was an extremely warm day and during the night it was uncomfortable due to lack of air conditioning in our room. only had a fan guess maybe not usually a problem in scotland but maybe some rooms do so worth enquiring if like a good nights sleep in the heat of summer. helpful staff and able to park car at hotel. great location,

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by kimbro Usual good "express" experience
Starting to get used to the Holiday Inn Express standard which is a nice all round experience. Comfortable rooms with a really comfortable bed and pillows that you chose from firm to soft. Nothing fussy in the reception area and a really decent spread at breakfast. Well done Holiday Inn this is a brand which offers a good standard in every "Express" l have stayed in.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Natter19 Very Good Night's Sleep- Quiet & Comfy.
Best night's sleep I've had in a city hotel. Clean, comfy, roomy, quiet room with great views and very helpful staff. I don't generally do breakfast but like the idea you can collect what you want and take it back to your room. Already re-booked for next trip to Edinburgh.

A 10/10 stay with not one single 'let-down'. This chic hotel reminded me of Belgian, French, German continental style city centre hotels. It will be my first choice next time.

Rooms quite small and a little worn! Breakfast was busy and layout bad for self serve concept?? Reception Staff were helpful and pleasant. For the location and price for one or two nights this hotel is adequate to meet your needs.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by AnonymouslyYours Nice location, near train station
The room was clean, but even more limited in space than the previous Holiday Inn Express I stayed at in London. There is essentially no room to maneuver in the room with luggage on the floor when the sofa bed was used as the extra bed. The price supplement for a third person in the room is not justified by what is offered as a room. The dining area was large and well furnished. Instead of offering some chocolates as an arrival gift for Priority Club members, they should consider bottled water instead. When I asked for bottled water none was given, the previous Holiday Inn Express I stayed in did, and was quite generous.

The staff are approachable, good facilities, excellent location within reach to the city centre, breakfast are just about okay however rooms and parking are a bit smaller.
Overall experience is good. I would stay with them again and would recommend this hotel.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by tim89 Perfect choice for an Edinburgh stay
We were a party of twenty having a long weekend break in this fine city. To be able to satisfy such a diverse group from all backgrounds was quite a challenge. Thanks to the help and advice of Gemma, for whom nothing as too much trouble, I heard nothing but praise from them all. This hotel is perfectly placed and the standard and cleanliness left nothing to be desired. Obviously well managed with well trained staff it was, for once, a pleasure to stay in a British hotel which offered such good service and value. Well done all.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 Small rooms, poor breakfast
We were firstly given a room full of smoke smell, even after the reception was informed at check in that I was travelling with 2 children. The alternative room given was so small that there was no place to open our bags, no drawers in the table, no doors in the wardrobe, heater did no work. A complaint was made on the first night, but the heater was not repaired. The breakfast is best avoided. Only cold scrambled eggs, half rotten apples, no bananas, no boiled eggs despite request.
Rooms in New York 5th avenue were much bigger and breakfast much better. No ramp for child strioller at the front entrance.
Have I anything good to say about this hotel, I am still thinking.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by John2053 Central for Edinburgh
A really convenient place to stop over for Edinburgh, we were going to the playhouse to see ghost. Staff booked us in quickly, and the facilities for an Express are good. managed to get in the parking bay although this is a £10 fee, still cheaper than the 24hr ones nearby.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Isi61 Great value for a great location
I have stayed at this hotel on several occasions and it remains my first choice when I visit Edinburgh.
It is convenient for Waverley station, the shops and most of the tourist attractions.
The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms comfortable- not luxurious but all that is expected in a budget hotel.
Breakfast sets you up for the day and has as much choice as as you should expect for a budget hotel.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Excellent service
We chose this Holiday Inn because of its location to the Edinburgh Playhouse which is directly across the road from the inn and the St James shopping centre is within five minutes walking distance The service we received from the staff on our arrival at the Holiday Inn was first class.and our room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. We would highly recommend this hotel.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by andelma Excellent service, clean and well equiped room.
As usual we had a very good experience in Holiday Inn. This was the first time we stayed in the Picardy Hotel and it is good to be welcomed by staff who smile and are interested in you.
A quiet room was provided as requested.
We were slighly disappointed with the breakfast as the menu on the table listed a large range of breakfast items but when we went to the serving area the only fruit available was grapefruit and the yogurts were in very short supply. The second morning was no better.
Dispite this, we enjoyed our stay and will stay again if the price is right.

We are a family from India - parents and two grown up kids. We were visiting Edinburgh for probably the only time in our lives. Had read so much about the beautiful city and the Scottish highlands. We wanted a hotel centrally located, within our budget, clean, comfortable and a joy to come back after a hectic day of sightseeing. We got all that and more. Holiday Inn Express at Picardy Place is perfect. We had a great holiday and brought back lovely memories. Thank you all.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by studz bad experience
breakfast was by far the worst of any Holiday Inn Express or other similar hotels. Eggs were not fresh as the fruit. No pastry. tables were not clelaned and the TV was as loud as could be.
Also in the room, ;no soap only a dispenser which is not hygenic as one has to squeeze the container to get soal. the next person gets to catch what ever the previous uses has.

This was my first visit to Edinburgh and this hotel was a good choice. It's in a good location and easily accessible to the train station and restaurants and bars. For a budget hotel it really does offer excellent service. I found everything I needed, the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean, tidy and pleasant. Great value - I had a really comfortable and enjoyable stay.
