The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. He made arrangements for a taxi and breakfast for the day of our very early departure. He also provided us with tea and biscuits after a chilly afternoon of sightseeing.

Hotel in great position in middle of city. Good rooms, clean, quiet and reasonably equipped. TV offering is bad, few digital channels, not even Sky or BBC news, bizarre.
Don't know why as a Platinum card holder you have to get new WiFi passwords etc each day for the 3 nights stay???
Staff very friendly, breakfast good in a nice environment.
Good basic hotel that suited our needs for a relatively short stay.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by uday Good location and Comfortable and great service
We liked this place because of the location close to Edinburg Castle and main streets where many restaurants etc are available in a walking distance. Only negative thing is the parking which not available at the hotel but close to Hotel for a charge.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by SSmmkp Excellent location and service!
Great place to stay for families. Mom and 2 daughters stayed 3 nights for the Edinburgh 1/2 marathon.
Great location and excellent service. We had two adjoining rooms and it worked perfectly. One room would have been too tight for 3 adults (even if family).
Breakfast was more than adequate with usual hot and cold faire plus fresh fruit and cheese.
Location is close to everything including Waverly station.

Excellent hotel for our needs and budget.
Convenient for all sights.
Staff very helpful.
Quiet location although air conditioning system a bit noisy at night.
Terrific buffet breakfast- go early.
Special offer package was well worth it. early and late arrival and departure time, tour bus tickets, free Wi-Fi and free luggage storage on day of departure which suited us as our train wasn't till 6pm.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JoeandDee13 Very satisfactory experience
This hotel gave excellent service for the money. Furthermore, it was perfectly located. All we had to do was walk out the door, turn right, walk up the attractive close, and BANG! We were in the thick of things. It was so convenient!.
The staff was eager to please, and very helpful if we had a question.
Our room was on the ground floor, in back, and dead quiet. The room cleaners were excellent.
The breakfast was just average here; the scrambled eggs were pretty bad, pale and tasteless, and there were only sausages, not bacon. We went out for breakfast after the first day.
There is a little bar there that is quite pleasant, by the way.
Other than the slightly disappointing breakfast, you can't beat this hotel for service, cleanliness, location***** and convenience. We will definitely return.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Smiths2013 Does what is says on the tin
We stayed at the hotel on a trip with our two young boys (2 and 4) sightseeing. It was as you would expect from a Holiday Inn Express - functional without being anything special - cooked breakfast was limited to sausages, egg and beans but well stocked. Room a little small with the sofa bed pulled out and shower only. We had to switch air con off at night as it was so noisy and the LEDs on it are annoyingly bright if left on.
One thing just to warn people - it is on a different street level to the A7 and the other side of the hill from the bus and train station, so from Waverley Bridge Station (where the airport bus drops you) follow Jeffrey Street round rather climb up and over like we did the first time. It is easily walkable from there including to Princess Street (where most of the shops and a wider selection of restaurants are). I'd also recommend the bus tour site seeing package/promotion if still available - you get free travel on the tour buses (zoo en route# for 24 hours - go for the longest route - was very good.
There is a Tesco express about 5 minutes walk away and you could easily walk to all attractions including the palace, parliament, Dynamic Earth #V. Good# and all the Royal Mile attractions #Castle etc).

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by bigknickers Clean room and friendly, helpful staff
I cannot fault the cleanliness of our room and the helpfulness of the friendly staff but as far as the so called "free breakfast" was concerned it was pretty dire. The sausages were tasteless and the scrambled egg was in our opinion made from powder and not fresh eggs. The coffee was disgusting and the croissants not much better. If you're happy to have a yogurt or a piece of fruit it will be satisfactory for some people.

My daughter and I spent two nights at the hotel. The staff was fantastic! They were extremely helpful and worked hard to make our stay as pleasant as possible. They even put out an early breakfast for us one morning when we were leaving the hotel early.
The free WIFI is good but is somewhat hard to connect to and did not work for me on the 4th floor.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Lizziet Convenient location
We stayed here for two nights because we wanted to be near the National Museum and Art Gallery, as well as the train station. It was handy for all three. The room overlooked the back of a church and was very quiet. The breakfast choice was fine and we like the improvement to the basic continental breakfast in the form of beans, scrambled egg and sausage .
The staff were friendly too. We would go back there if the price was similar.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JB13 Excellent hotel to stay to see all the sights in the city
Recently returned home from a 3 night stay at this hotel.
The reception staff where so pleasant and helpful, especially Amy who is a credit to the business.
The room was spotless, could not fault it, so a big thankyou to the housekeepers.
The position of the hotel is just off the Royal Mile which is an excellent location to visit all the sights of Edinburgh and the main shopping centre, all within walking distance.
Breakfast was good and the staff were all very polite.
Overall the hotel is extremely clean and good value for money.
I would certainly recommend staying here.
You won't be disappointed.

We enjoyed our stay, and will be returning very soon. We would like to have been nearer buses, but hotel was pleasantly near the Royal Mile. Breakfast was very nice. Our room was quiet and comfortable, and had a great view of Salisbury Crags. We had an initial problem - of my making .The staff sorted it out and were very helpful and friendly.

Brilliant location in the heart of the Old Town close to shopping and attractions. Comfortable room with friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere. Only disappointment was cooked breakfast which was limited and tepid.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by boon2uk Comfortable Room, slow wifi
The room was well laid out, the bed was really comfortable, well planned showeroom. We had a room on the 2nd floor overlooking the church next door. The staff were helpful and pleasant. Could have had a bit more variaty for the cooked breakfast, there was no bacon just sausages scrambled egg and baked beans.
The negative we had was th strength of the wifi signal in our room. We were given a 24hrs wifi token and had to ask for an additional tocken for each 24 hours period with no charge. The wifi signal tended to fade and then com back again with annoying regularity. We mentioned this at reception who said they would reboot the wifi system but this did not appear to make any difference. Please sort this out.
Overall we would recommend this hotel, ideally situated for the Old Town only a few mintues walk away.

An ideal location for both business and pleasure.Everything you would expect from a HIE given that I stay in them more than home
Disappointment milk machine out of order so 1 jug of full fat milk for numerous guests followed by tepid cooked various.
Many other HI & HIE in Edinburgh.1 last stay as location is so good and then back to the H.I near the Zoo
Disgruntled platinum.

Had a birthday to celebrate for a friend, and she wanted to visit Edinburgh Zoo to see the Giant Pandas! Staff knowledgeable on how to get there, and other places to visit. Restricted road at front after 10pm, so much quieter. All in all, a good stay, well placed, just away from the Royal Mile. Looking to visit again!

My family and I arrived early at the hotel on Saturday 2.2.13 and were greeted by two lovely and helpful ladies on reception. They had our room ready and they could not have been nicer to us so that got our mini break off to a great start. Our room was spotless and comfortable and breakfast was tasty. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend others to aswell. Thank you again to the reception ladies, you made our stay lovely.

This hotel was just what I needed for a business trip to Edinburgh, good location, with bars and food a short wlak a way in The Grass Market.
Discounted secure parking at the NCP carpark just down the hill, worth the short walk.
Staff very helpful and keen to make your feel welcome in Edinburgh, a city that has so much to offer as a tourist.
I will return to this hotel for both business and pleasure.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lemoney All great!
We have stayed several times in Edinburgh (normally at 4 or 5* rated hotels) but never at this hotel. Could not fault anything ~ room was a good size (for 2 adults and a teenager) and clean, breakfast was great, location was close to everything we wanted to visit and the staff were very friendly and helpful. For example, there was not enough pillows for 3 in our room but this did not cause a problem as phoned reception and more arrived within 15 minutes. With having a teenager with us then having a little bar in the hotel meant we could have a drink in the evening. Will definately be returning!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Moray Great breakfasts just off the Royal Mile
Stayed here for Hogmanay 2012. the hotel is extremely well placed in Cowgate, just off the royal Mile in the old town.
Service was excellent, and the breakfasts were very good. Rooms were quite small but clean and perfectly fitted our needs. No safe in the room is the only gripe. Otherwise, I really enjoyed my stay and would use the hotel again for sure.
