Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Ricca Average Hotel - Cigarette Smell in the (smoking Free) room
Checked in the room and right away noticed that the room was smelling like old ashtray or wet cigarette butt. As former smoker I pick the smell right away. Asked to change room but no room was available that night. Next day checked out and reported the problem (once again) to staff who apparently did not know about my previous night complaint and offered me a 10$ off the parking charges.
Needless to say this is the last time they are going to see me at that location.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by yoyonwt Hot Room and terrible bed
Although the staff were extremely pleasant to deal with my stay was not a good experience. The room was extremely hot and the mattress needed to be replaced months ago I'm sure. When I expressed my disappointment upon checking out nothing was offered other than a 'thanks for letting us know I'll let management know'.

For me it is the welcoming staff at the HIE that make my stay very satisfactory. Always friendly, they will do anything in their power to make your stay more enjoyable. I always come back for the excellent service they provide.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by RMar Freezing hotel
The experience at the Edmonton Downtown Holiday Inn Express would have been good IF the hotel didn't turn off the heating system in a week when we had at least one day when the highest temperature was -1o.C (!). When I complained, I got the answer that the hotel turns the heating off in "determined days" and it had been turned off because it was already Spring. I argued that the temperatures were not Spring ones, that we were having a cold wave and thus the guests needed heat. But the only solution the hotel gave me was 2 extra blankets and a small electric portable heater. I froze all week and certainly would not recommend this hotel to a friend and certainly will not stay there ever more. I am a Priority Club member.

As usual, the outstanding staff under the leadership of Kent keeps me returning to this hotel when I travel for business. I am always greeted by name, and that amazes me, with so many guests this property must see day in and day out.
Thank you for the wonderful room upgrade Kelly!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 Is there a manager of this property?
Who ever heard of a 4:00 PM Check-In for a Holiday Inn? Reservation made by AMEX. Desk staff couldn't use Priority Club card to access my address and phone number. Had to use my Drivers License and input it manually. The Calgary Holiday Inn just swiped the Priority Club Card to get this info.
Had to wait for supervisor to check the room. Room located behind the elevators.
Ironically, the elevators were broken, so sleep was OK. Upon check out at 0630 had to lug my heavy bags down six flights of stairs to the lobby. Desk attendant didn't care. Said something about one elevator being broken and the other locked out so it stayed on the ground floor. It too, had been broken the previous day.
Holiday Inn should be able to command 24 hour service for elevators that are inoperative. I know 24 hour service is available in Edmonton. Why wasn't it called in? Both elevators out of service is a management disaster and damaging to the brand.
Breakfast was tasteless. Scrambled eggs were dried out. Fake eggs with cheese were an abomination.
