We had been traveling for 13 days and when we needed a hotel we stayed exclusively at HIE. I was expecting the same level of comfort and service here that I received at all the others.
While the lobby and room were both clean, and the staff were courteous we had several issues.
Our room door did not close properly, the fan in the bathroom did not work, the wifi signal was not strong enough to get any reception, the pool had several dead spiders and centipedes in it, and the hot tub was not working. (I also noticed that the dryer was not working in the guest laundry room)
Every other Holiday Inn Express we've stayed at has a 'pantry' for guests to purchase food items and I was very disappointed that this one did not. After a long day on the road the last thing I wanted to do was go out again to a restaurant.
But the topping on the cake was when the fire alarm was set off at 6:30 am, jarring us and our terrified children out of bed and downstairs only to discover that the cook had burned something setting it off.
In short, it was not a pleasant stay.

As a long term veteran of the hospitality industry, I have stayed in many 4 and 5 star hotels. I can honestly say the decor and comfort of this property truly rivals most hotel brands. The staff was very inviting and helpful. I truly was quite surprised how nice the decor was at a Holiday Inn Express. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others staying in the Emporia, VA area and would definitely stay here again.

I made reservations for 5 rooms the 4th of July weekend. The rooms were clean, nice, the beds were comfortable. The housekeepers were very friendly and helpful. I will be staying here again and the rest of my family. I will be making reservations for next year early.

Upon arrival in late afternoon there was a trash can at the front door that was over flowing onto the ground. I inquired at the front desk if I could get a military discount. The desk clerk said I could not because my reservation had been made with a different discount and she could not change it. I have had other HIE hotels make the change. We were assigned a room and when we went to the room it was not ready. No towels, not swept or vacuumed. We had to contact the cleaning team so they could finish cleaning the room. The whirlpool at the pool was broken and the guest dryer was not operational.

Stayed here after experiencing car trouble and having to stay overnight in Emporia until we could get back on the road. Hotel spotless, all staff seemed to take pride in this property from breakfast server to front desk to cleaning staff. Everyone had a smile and helpful attitude. On entering our room, obvious that the air conditioning not functioning. Called front desk and within 3 minutes someone up to look, declaring that indeed there was a problem. Asked if we would mind changing rooms and when we said we would come down to get a key they said no, we will bring to you, which they promptly did, upgrading us in the process. Since we did not have a car, the front desk provided us with take out menus, making recommendations which were spot on.
All in all - I would rate this hotel and staff Excellent in all respects.

Comfortable beds, quiet location and friendly staff. Breakfast buffet was well stocked. Even with a graduation party going on, our room was very quiet and we were not disturbed.

Perhaps this person was just rushed or trying to do too many things. BUT - my wife and I felt like we were intruding on her day when we checked in. Totally different than the staff at the HOliday Inn Express at Greensboro, N.C., where we felt totally welcome and they were glad to see us. Other than that everything was fantastic - food, room, other service personnel.

The room was ok. I'm not sure if they put in a new rug but it wasn't flush on the floor. I suspect it was new. The wall had a hole in it. I was ok with the room. It seemed clean but the bathtub/shower area was old.....very old. They tried repainting it a long time ago and the paint was peeling and looked gross. The shower head was yucky as well. The killer for me was a roach that appeared during the night. It died in the bathroom. I haven't seen a roach at a holiday inn express ever! Really gross.
They did acknowledge us as priority club members.

Great comfortable beds. Clean room. The only problem I had was that our room wasn't ready by check-in. The staff did get us in right away once it was. But I did have to wait a little while for it. Other than that the stay was great.

The HVAC unit on our room blew only warm air even though the setting was in the cool mode and set at 60 degrees. We slept without any covers which was not as comfortable as we expected. I did not notify the desk that night because of the hour and we were too tired to relocate.

We enjoyed our recent stay the HIE Emporia location. Good parking, familiar ambience, comfortable room, great breakfast. One suggestion would be to remove a tip bowl left at breakfast. First time we had experienced this, and it seemed out-of-place. Great location that got us back on our journey right away, close to local restaurants and quiet stay!

Appeared understaffed. Took awhile to check in two callers on phone an only one attendant. Jacuzzi broken and "heated" pool was cold. The room was adequate but the advertised recliner and ottoman was actually a worn out overstuffed chair. Breakfast was "warm", coffee included (some food items were half covered in tin foil implying leftover). The attendant spent the entire time seated at a table talking to what appeared to be an associate or perhaps manager. We had to bring the coffee to room to heat in microwave. I went by the front desk three times while carrying out items with the intention of speaking to an attendant but none was ever present. I eventually just dropped the room keys and left.

When hotels advertise hot tubs or jacuzzis I expect them to be hot, not luke warm or cooler than the pool. Otherwise, rooms clean, breakfast good.

This Emporia Holiday Inn Express is a favorite stop. We have
stayed often and will return. The lobby is beautiful and the
rooms are immaculate and very comfortable.
We look forward to breakfast and Petra who has been working there for three years makes sure she gets to work by five and has fresh coffee and breakfast by six . Petra keeps the entire area neat and clean.
We will return as often as possible

just wanted to say we checked in on April the 4th I had made the reservation at the wrong site ( even though we have stayed in emporia many times) it was late and the desk personel were fantastic esp Carrie as she canceled my other reservation made sure I got my points back and I would nit be charged she was fantastic

You cannot pick a better place to stop, it's clean, the staff from the room cleaners to the breaffast staff are great. Best of all you feel safe while your in your room & have no worries about your car parked in the lot.
