Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing. I will not be staying at this hotel again. The room itself was nice. However, the tv in the bedroom did not work. The backlight was broken so it only had audio - no video at all. Had to use the tv in the other area only. The parking at this hotel is absolutely pathetic. It shares parking with a water park, and the water park customers use up hotel parking. It needs to be separated. Also the parking area was about half the size it should've been. You have to fight for a spot. Terrible. Even the internet was pathetic. The hard wired Ethernet did not work and the wifi BARELY worked. I was on the first floor near the front desk and still had trouble. It was so slow and weak that it kicked me off repeatedly. Absolute embarrassment to the franchise. August 24, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Bloody towels I used my points for this room and was very dissatisfied with the conditions. I opened the towel and it was bloody, we call the desk and no apology was given, they said we will bring you more towels if you would like. A sign in the room stated that if you dis colored or ruined and linen you would be charged for it, I unrolled a wash cloth and it was pink like someone had dyed their hair, I pointed this out to be sure I wasn't charged. I feel like this hotel and my points were wasted. I wills never stay here again. The staff acted like it was no big dealaaqqqqqq August 21, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good size room and good service. We stayed for two nights and the room was a great size for a family of four. My main complaint would be the cleanliness of the guest room itself. Overall it didn't look too bad but within minutes of entering the room I opened the cupboard door to look inside and my hand ended up getting covered in pizza sauce maybe? We then found an eaten empty yogurt container by the night stand; not sure how that could possibly have gotten missed by housekeeping. It left me wondering how well the room had be cleaned if at all before check in. I wished I had had some disinfecting wipes to freshen things up so we could have felt a bit more comfortable. I would stay again but would bring a few cleaning supplies. We came to shop and thought the location was perfect in relation to the shops. The kids enjoyed Splash Lagoon and it was convenient to have it right on site. Overall, the price was reasonable, and it is a good 'middle of the road' option; not too expensive but not a dive either. August 20, 2014

The downside however, is parking is taken up by water park guests, and the breakfast is FULL of kids. If you have kids with you it's a plus, but if travelling without it can bring some aggregation. Lots of wet floors and noisy kids and as previously mentioned, breakfast is an adventure. August 17, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing stay. Our family has been using HIE as our 'Go-To' chain for brief stays. We have stayed at dozens of locations over the past few years. All in all this was a disapointing visit to a HIE especially considering the peak price we paid for the room. The parking was insufficient. The hotel is in need of a 'refresh/remodel'. The walls/carpet seemed a little shabby, and decor seemed a little dated. Our 'Suite' room was spacious, but smelled of body odor/cooking smells (it was hard to tell). The carpet was badly stained. Room decor seemed dated and shabby. The breakfast area was very spacious, but the layout of food area was poor and caused confusing lines. The food choices seemed limited compared to other locations, the OJ was watery, and the coffee was bad. I'm NOT a coffee snob, but this coffee was awful. This particular Erie hotel was NOT a 'Hotel Nightmare' by any means, but we found it to be sub par compared to our other stays. We were looking for a location in Erie PA near the Presque Isle area and unfortunately this was the only location avail. I say this because it is a 15-20 min drive to Presque Isle. The main draw to this hotel is the proximity to the Splash Lagoon Waterpark adjacent to the HIEX. If you want to be next to this indoor waterpark, it would be the perfect choice. August 13, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not our usual Holiday Inn Experience We always stay in Holiday Inn hotels, Holiday Inn Express if at all possible. During this trip to the Splash Lagoon water park, we of course chose the Holiday Inn Express. When we arrived, the room smelled musty. We opened the windows, allowing for all the wet people who had stayed in the room. Later we found left over food and drinks in the Refrigerator. As our stay progressed, we found nail clippings beside one of the beds, and other food crumbs around the room. This was very discomforting having a toddler and newly walking infant with us. As the kids played in the room, we noticed that their feet were turning black from the dirty floors. We only chose to stay in the room because we already had the crib and pack n' play already set up and settled. This hotel was in no way equal to the quality of the many other HIE's we have visited. If this had been our first experience in a Holiday Inn property, it would have most certainly been our last!! August 1, 2014

They both enjoyed sleeping in the bunk beds but there was no door or curtain to close when putting them to bed. Also the wall does not go up to the ceiling so they could see the light and hear the noise from the tv in the room. The rate was pricey but I liked the separate kid area. July 29, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great hotel and great room! My family recently visited the Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Erie and it was great. We were staying in one of the kid's suite and my daughter loved it. The kids area was sectioned off and even had its own television if she wanted to watch something different while we were in the room. The other half of the room was very spacious, had a comfortable king size bed and small kitchen area. The bathroom was very spacious and had a really nice size shower/tub. It was quiet, with the exception of a few kids running through the hall above us, but the sound was mostly muffled and was actually far less disruptive compared to other hotels I've stayed in. The breakfast bar had a nice variety, was kept stocked and there was hardly any waiting, even when it was busy. There were two service stations and it seemed to move everything along. Everything at the hotel was great! The only slight incident I had was with my key card. It would not work right after I checked in. I went back down to the front desk to get a new card, but the individual that was helping me seemed more interested in finding out what I did to make the card not work than helping, but they were still able to get me new card that worked on the first try. Everyone else at the front desk was extremely friendly and very helpful and greeted us every morning ensuring that our stay was going well. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others. If you have children, the Kid's Suite is definitely worth it! July 28, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not so great stay I think the best thing was it's location within the area and on our trip it was at a good stopping point. I'll list the concerns I had: 1. Wow, a great big jacuzzi bath...but wait, it's nozzles are cruddy and dirty as well as other aspects of the tub. Outside of a quick (quick!) shower, I would NOT want to soak in this. Who knows what you might catch? Yuck! 2. Well, it's a fold out sofa so you can't expect much, BUT why can't I? I mean, I'm the customer, right? Anyhow, it was so thin and uncomfortable for my kids that they piled into the other two beds with the others. Now I'm not getting the added benefit for the sleep I wanted by getting the Suite. 3. The halls were old, dated, and musty smelling. 4. I think the room we had must have had some smokers in it at some point in time and also pets. Room not so fresh smelling. 5. Breakfast - had biscuits, no sausage gravy! 6. So, we get the Suite because I have 4 kids and hey, guess what? The Friggin' pool is a SHARED pool with two other hotels. AND if you go to it, you have walk all the way around the parking lot and a restaurant/bar to get there and back. You can cut through the Splash Indoor Park that it's connected to but when it closes you're walking a ways. And after all that effort, you get to a quite cute, but very tiny little pool. And maybe it was the day, but the entire room was like a sweat lodge! Seriously disappointed by that and it was not represented this way I'm sure. 7. Was NOT greeted as a Gold Member of IHG. Was NOT offered a complimentary snack or anything. 8.. That's enough. Definitely going to choose a different hotel next time despite being an IHG member. Just a complete waste really. July 25, 2014

Breakfast was excellent and there was tons to choose from. The only reason I did not sleep is through no fault of the hotel. The rest of my group slept very well. We will definitely keep this place in mind the next time we travel through Erie. July 21, 2014
