Booked this hotel very last minute based on price and location but was not expecting to stay in such a nice hotel.
The receptionist was very friendly and helpful, the room was large and well furnished with a clean modern bathroom.
The meal in the restaurant was reasonably price and very nice. Complimentary breakfast was also very good.
Would definitely stay again.

An excellent value for money hotel. The staff are very efficient and friendly. Clean, bright , spacious and comfortable rooms, free car park with the added bonus of a late bar. I highly recommend Holiday inn if you need accommodation in around Colchester.

The hotel is very difficult to find particularly if driving from Colchester (the west) and the staff acknowledged that many people commented on that issue. It is a standard Holiday Inn Express as far as the rooms go but has a restaurant since there is not pub nearby. The ‘desk’ chair is too low and uncomfortable to use to type on a laptop and is totally non-adjustable. It was getting a bit cool in the room so I wanted to increase the temperature by 0.5 degrees. To my surprise it was set at 12 even though the indicator read 21. I increased it to 21.5 only to wake up in the middle of the night with the indicator reading 23! I discovered why it had been set to 12.
The biggest problem was the restaurant and the attitude of the staff. When I ordered dinner I was told it would be up to 45 minutes. After 55 minutes I asked where my meal was and was told they had a problem with the oven but it would be out in 5 minutes. After almost 70 minutes my meal finally was delivered by the manager without so much as a word. No apology. No suggestion that maybe we should compensate you for the incredibly long wait. Nothing.
After all this I get back to my room and discover the internet is very, very slow on my laptop. I get out my iPad and attempt to log onto the wireless network only to be told that it already has the maximum number of devices registered and try again later!
On check out neither the person in front of me or the person behind me, or me for that matter, was asked how the stay was. It is almost as if they were afraid to ask.
This hotel is difficult to find and I will not be trying to find it again any time soon.

Had a few problems at check-in as the room I had been allocated would not open but these were quickly, professionally and ably resolved by Mary. Disappointed however that awoke this morning to find no hot water available and, worst, there had been no attempt to inform patrons. Surely a note under each door would not have been too much to ask for? I trust that there will be some sort of recompense?
