Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Recommended Hotel and room was clean and tidy, staff were friendly, breakfast was adequate, location was perfectly situated for our visit to Exeter. If I have to visit this area again I would stay there. Overall value for money! May 9, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Value, comfortable and convenient This HI Express is easy to find and get to. It is very close to a park and ride terminal so you don't have to drive downtown, and the pub next door, the Barn Owl, has a good menu. May 3, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good room and service Stayed mid April 2013 and found the room in good condition, clean and to the standard I expected. Helpful staff and good breakfast as advertised. Location is good for park & ride into Exeter centre. April 27, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by .very comfortable and good service excellent and highly recommended accommodation with good service April 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good nights sleep Close to lovely pub, close to bus station that takes you into town. £10 taxi away from airport. Clean, modern, lovely staff, couldnt have asked for more!! April 22, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good, as always Very good stay with the normal excellent service at HI Express hotels. I was particularly pleased to be able to access the 'free' Internet service in my room. I wish this were possible at all the hotels! April 21, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Clean Room Nice Hotel with good location, the room was comfortable and the Maid service was top notch The Breakfast area is small and can get crowded very easily, but staff keep all items topped up well. My only complaint is that the Barman tried to give me a Gin & Tonic with no ice & slice, sorry that is part of a G&T, he did get some ice but only on my request. April 19, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not as expected We had stayed at this HIE previously & were highly satisfied with the location, staff and facilities offered. THIS STAY did not match up to our previous stay for two reasons. The reception staff were not at all welcoming & did not acknowledge us either entering or leaving the reception area during our three days accomodation. Secondly, during breakfast, the dining area was swamped with business people, who were selfishly devouring all the food in sight, with single residents occupying a table intended for four, no one giving any hint of consideration to families with small children, who must have found it bewildering. On our first morning, we could only get seated at a coffee table, at the side of which, a Speed Awareness course was being orchestrated in an adjacent room. What has previously been a pleasant experience turned into a noisy chaotic one. April 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by friendly staff and relaxing hotel would recommend and stay again myself. front desk staff friendly and polite, room comfortable and clean, breakfast had good choice hot food changed on a regular basis so nothing went cold. very easy to find off J29 of M5. April 14, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice place but no dinner service Very convenient and nice, comfortable room. Disappointing that we would have to walk across to Pub for an evening meal so we got a pizza. April 14, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable and food value for money I received a warm welcome from reception. The room was clean and comfortable, if a little too warm. Although there is no restaurant as such, I was able to order a Pizza. This was ready in 15 mins and was piping hot; it went down well with a cold beer. Breakfast was self service and did just the job. I'd have no hesitation in returning. April 14, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good facilities, thoughtful staff We have stayed here twice, both times before early morning flights out from Exeter. The staff were very thoughtful and even made sure that we received breakfast before we set off. April 12, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by One night stay As a IHG Gold Rewards member we were pleasantly surprised. This Holiday Inn Express Hotel was ideal for our one night stay, 2 adults and 2 children the room was clean, fresh, tidy and the staff were all very helpful. We would use this hotel again if we are in the area. April 11, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by As I expected but pleasantly surprised at FREE Wi-Fi :o) I stayed here one night on a business trip to the airport. Not much to say really as it was everything I had expected from the chain. Everything was clean and tidy BUT I really appreciated the free wifi as I had quite a few hours to spend as I was working by myself, why can't other hotel groups do the same? I also enjoyed the evening meal eating at the local pub, The Barn Owl, across the car park but watch out coming back down the steps as it was dark and the lamp stand was not working. Although that's probably one for the pub, not the Holiday Inn department? The airport being a couple of miles away attracted several late night planes which were a little annoying, as they woke me up flying directly overhead... Twice, but thats why I stayed there to be near the airport, so I probably can't grumble too much! Unlike some hotels, I chose to leave the mattress protector / incontinence sheet on, as it was the breathable type not a plastic sheet with fabric on the top, so well done, other hotels take note! Breakfast was adequate with the usual fare. I had cerial followed by scrambled egg sausage and beans and finished with a tiny croisant, black coffee and orange juice. I sampled just about everything, which kept me going all day. If I am fortunate to get another job at the airport I would definately stay here again, but maybe bring some earplugs next time, as I am definatly a light sleeper. April 10, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by comfy room, clean & tidy enjoyable stay, nice public space & bar area.would stay again April 8, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Stop over hotel- ideal This hotel is worth stopping at either on route to or from the south-west, or as a business stop over for the Exeter area. The welcome is warm, staff are efficient and the rooms clean.Add in the ample car park (free) and you have a worth while night stop. April 8, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good situation The park and ride buses just across the road made it easy to get into Exeter without taking the car. Please note that there is a charge to visit the Cathedral. April 8, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice overnight stay We stayed at this hotel on route to a weeks holiday in Cornwall, it was very pleasent and made for a relaxing drive the next day. The staff were all very friendly the room was comfortabe. The hotel was clean and well presented throughout. There is a local Vintage Inn just across the car park for a bit to eat in the evening. We would certainly stay here again if doing the same route another time. April 8, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good accommodation The hotel was very clean and comfortable. We needed to be out of the hotel before 6am before the scheduled breakfast time - however there was a continental breakfast available from 5 30am - a pleasant and welcome surprise! Staff were efficient and extremely helpful. The downside for us was the Taxi company who took us to the airport. On our return we went to reception to enquire the cost of the trip - the receptionist was extremely helpful called the company to ask and explain that we felt that we had been overcharged.I spoke to the company who said that the manager was not available but would contact me.- I am still waiting two days later. The hotel did provide the number of the company and I will be reporting them to the council - we were charged £8 more than their usual fee!! It would be a great pity if people were put off staying at the hotel because of some excessive charges made by the taxi firm used by them - we would highly recommend the hotel. April 7, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ok ! I stayed in this hotel for one night only with 2 young kids(age 5 and 9) and my wife. Room was small for 4 people to move around and relax. Other than that, receiption staff was welcomming and professional, provided us 2nd Wifi token as one wifi token allows only one device. Overalll i will rate this hotel good for people without young childern/family. April 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great for Women business travellers Fantastic hotel and always feel safe being a woman travelling on business. Staff very friendly and hotel up to normal Holiday Inn Express good standards. March 28, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great service but uncomfortable beds We booked a family room for 2 adults and 2 children (aged 6 & 9). The room was really cramped and very tight in space for 4 people's luggage. The mattress of the adult double bed was not very comfortable. A double soft-bed for two kids was not a good idea and they were expected to share a double duvet. Breakfast was basic. My 9 years old was surprised that there was no bacons for breakfast. However, the Reception staff were friendly and helpful and allowed us to have late check-out and leave lugguage without fuss. March 23, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent service The staff were welcoming and very committed to dealing with guest questions and problems that were not simply related to the hotel stay. March 20, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Cold & Poor service stayed at the holiday Inn Express in Exeter a number of times, this is always for business, rooms are very cold, you have an Air Conditioning unit, however it is far to loud to use when trying to sleep. Breakfast was poor, cannot get a table, feels very rushed. The PH opposite has both poor food and service. Would recommend staying at the Holiday Inn Taunton 45mins away. March 19, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Three night stay We stayed for 3 nights in March 2013 having booked 2 nights using our Reward Points and the third night via a direct booking. I was pleased that my request for the same room for both bookings had been noted and put in motion before we arrived. We simply had to swipe our room card again for the third night. As indicated above, all the services where very good and this time, in contrast to our last stay, the staff were exceptionally helpful and very polite. As previously the room was very comfortable and we even got a new larger TV after the first night! Breakfast was generally very good, although the large number of guests meant that certain things ran out and there was a little delay before replacement occurred. As previously, the free internet access was very good, although it would have been helpful to have just had to login once as opposed to 3 times for 3 days. March 18, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Clean and fresh but a bit noisy The hotel was easy to find and had loads of free parking. Booking in was quick and easy, made to feel welcome as Priority Club member. Room was very clean and fresh. Was staying on business and room had good working area with plenty of sockets to plug in laptop, phone, etc. Very poor choice of evening meal - really only pizza but there is a pub next door with a better selection of food. Personally found bed uncomfortable but probably just due to my preference. Corridor outside room was very noisy both at night with late night drinkers, and very early morning with workmen with an early start. Breakfast was ok but not replenished very quickly when items ran out. Check out was fast and friendly. Will stay again. March 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Staff, Great Room, Excellent breakfast Excellent place to stay. Staying for conference, but paying for it myself. Would absolutely stay here if in the area again. Staff were incredibly helpful throughout my stay. Comfortable, clean room. Breakfast was much better than I expected, good selection. Highly recommended March 13, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by close to m5 and good value initial reaction+very busy but still paking space. good efficient welcome checking all of the right things. room was clean ,but the bathroom needed attention. breakfast was the normal HIexpress offering. worth keeping in my "stay here again"list. March 12, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by convenient location good food in the pub the hotel was easy to find just off the motorway. we stayed for 2 nights the service was very good and the hotel was clean, modern, fairly new and good value for money. the pub next door was excellent for food. March 6, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by A disturbed night! The hotel overall was clean and well maintained. Beds were as requested and were comfortable. Unfortunately, our room was above the hotel entrance which meant that it was subject to noise and cigarette smoke. It was necessary to have our window open as the room was warm and it was not possible to alter the thermostat below 19C. The noise was a particular problem with guests entering/leaving the premises all night, specifically 10.30 pm, 12.05 am, 2.15 am and 3.00 am. All these people made noise, but two men stood outside shouting at each other for 10 minutes at 2.15 am. I realise the hotel is not responsible for keeping inconsiderate people quiet but maybe a smoking exclusion zone could be extended to well beyond the doorway and this might encourage such people to move away from the area. According to the night manager, the hotel has had other complaints about the "shouting man" who appears to make a habit of such behaviour. Maybe he could be refused a room in future. The members of staff I spoke to - both during the night and in the morning were apologetic and dealt with the matter of my complaint very well. If I did return to this hotel I would certainly request a room on the opposite side of the building. All the staff we met were pleasant and helpful. Other than my main complaint, the hotel was good. The breakfast was hot and the area kept clean and well stocked. March 4, 2013
