I brought my family with me on this trip, and the room was a bit small to accomodate 4 people comfortably, but the condition of the room itself was excellent and well maintained. The breakfast was good, but could have had more variety. We did like the pancake machine better than the waffle makers you see at many other places. July 14, 2014

She provided me very specific directions, as well. Also, the woman that checked me in upon arrival was very friendly and made sure I had everything I needed after a long drive. July 7, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Mixed Results The location was convenient and it was a surprise to see the Idaho Potato Truck parked at the hotel one morning! I was disappointed that I was not welcomed as a IHG Rewards Club Member and that the room smelled a bit musty. The air conditioner felt more like a "swamp cooler" than air conditioning. The beds were comfy and the staff was usually friendly. This was the second year to stay at this hotel but I am not sure we will stay there again due to the smell and air conditioning. July 3, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by This Hotel should be removed from the portfolio Ownership made a less than acceptable attempt to upgrade an old hotel to current modern standards. It's impossible to achieve a new "identity" with a little perfume on an old pig. Add to that a front desk staff that is less than qualified and you get the hotel experience less than acceptable. How does IHG allow this lack luster hotel to remain in the portfolio? June 13, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Unsatisfactory service The visit got off to a rough start because our reservation was not correct at the hotel. Once we arrived to the room, there was hair throughout the room and the mini fridge never was cold even after being replaced. We were happy to see some healthier options for breakfast otherwise it was a limited selection from the snack area. There was no specific place to purchase items from the snack wall. The room itself was quiet but always felt hot which made for a difficult night sleep and to constantly adjust the thermostat in the room. May 29, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Room was nice but a few issues Overall, this was a good stay. My first experience with the staff was when I called in the day before my reservation. I was coming into town on a Red Eye flight, scheduled to arrive at 7AM, with a training class to attend at 9AM. I called to see if I could schedule an early check-in, which would allow me to check in and freshen up before the class. I spoke with Irene (if my memory serves), the sales manager, who told me that the hotel was full, and they would do what they could to accommodate me, but my best bet was to add an additional night to my stay (to the front end of the reservation), which would insure that I had a room when I arrive early the next day. I asked if they had a room available, and she said she would check and call back. A few hours later, I received a call back saying they could add the extra night, which I went ahead and booked. I was happy that I was able to do so, and appreciated the suggestion and help in booking it. Upon arrival to the room, I noticed two things; the mini refrig was not working at all (warm, if not hot inside), and the desk area had only one power outlet, which was built into the base of the desk lamp. That power outlet was not working. As I was departing for my class before 9AM, I went to the front desk to see what could be done. There was no one at the front desk, but after a short wait, one of the housekeepers came and asked if they could help. I explained the situation with both the refrig and desk. She said that she couldn't do anything about the refrig, but would see if they could replace the desk lamp. Upon my return in the early evening, the lamp had been replaced and the power was available. Breakfast (included in the rate) the next morning was adequate. They had coffee & juice, some dry cereals, microwave oatmeal, basic fruit & muffins, toast, a pancake maker, and some prefab scrambled egg disks, turkey sausage patties, and some dried out biscuits. I opted for the eggs, sausage, and an English muffin, and took it and some coffee to my room. I was leery, but it actually made a satisfying and filling breakfast. All-in-all, I would say it was a good stay, with helpful staff and comfortable room. May 19, 2014

Hotels used to have a shelf area by the desk that would accommodate luggage. More than one person often stays in a room and that means two suitcases. The staff at the desk were knowledgeable about the area and that was very helpful when looking for a place to eat. May 18, 2014

We had to go back down to the lobby to get that fixed. Small rooms. Breakfast just OK. We were not greeted as Platinum IHG Rewards Club Members. May 14, 2014

Mount Vernon is ideally situated. Location also meant that we could visit several Washington sites - The Pentagon, and Arlington cemetery. Staff in the hotel were all helpful and ensured we enjoyed our stay April 30, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Room Stayed at this hotel while we visited Washington, DC. Good location. Room was spotless. The breakfast was excellent. Did not care for the pillows. Very large, and too soft and puffy, even the "firm" ones were too puffy. Although the front desk people were all extremely friendly, not too knowledgeable when asked how to use public transportation, and other attraction questions. But still, a very nice hotel! The building is older, but the rooms are always clean and tidy. There are a couple of restaurants near by and they have a well stocked mini store in the hotel. But thanks to Anastasia and her helpfulness at the front desk, checking in is not a concern. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Lower end of Holiday Inn Express The staff was wonderful!!!!! There was only a very small lobby and breakfast area. Really no place to hang out with a group other than in the rooms. The toilet shower room was tiny. The plug for the hairdryer didn't work. The hair dryer was attached to the wall. The front desk didn't have an alternate hair dryer to use in another plug. I had to do without a hairdryer or wait for a maintenance man to come. I waited for about 15 minutes and gave up. There was shampoo and lotion but no conditioner. The shower head was loose in the wall. I stay at Holiday Inn Express all the time and love them. this one was just not up to the usual standards. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Internet is very inconsistent Stayed here twice. First comment is that the Internet is very sketchy. If it works, it doesn't work for long before you start experiencing connection problems with the login credientials for the gateway. The only way I found to resolve this was to disconnect the Ethernet cable, restart the computer, and then reconnect the Ethernet cable, then re-login into the gateway. Sometimes your computer will act sluggish like it was a virus... only it is just this problem. The other thing I noticed was a fire code violation. It looks as though the hairdryer in my room was broken, so instead of replacing the hair dryer, someone actually cut the GFI plug off of the hairdryer, and wired the hair dryer behind the wallplate directly to the wiring of the outlet. I almost wanted to send a picture to Fairfax, VA code enforcement. November 25, 2013
