We use Holiday Inn, Folkestone, as it is halfway between our holiday cottage in France and our home in Merseyside.
It is all that we need and enjoy.
We are made welcome, and our onward journey is undertaken, refreshed after a good night's sleep.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by liveclive Nice bed, friendly staff but traffic noise
Stayed on the way to France.
Did not have a good night sleep because of the traffic noise.
As I had to leave early I missed breakfast and the packed breakfast provided was disappointing.
Very helpful and friendly staff.

"It does exactly what it says on the tin!" No frills or fuss but very functional and I truly couldn't fault the staff in any way - extremely friendly and helpful. In fact, I'd say this is the selling point of this hotel. Ideal for stopping over. Rooms

Excellently placed for the Eurotunnel. There is nothing within walking distance, but the staff offer local food delivery menus and are happy for you to eat them in the restaurant area (even offering plates, cutlery and napkins)!
We were too early for breakfast, but they organised a takeaway bag with croissant, jam and a piece of fruit, plus use of their drinks machine.
I cannot recommend this hotel enough.
High level of cleanliness and comfortable beds.

The hotel was as you would expect from the Express brand, however I was not offered a choice of extra points or a drink upon check in only a drink. I was informed that I need to contact IHG direct to get the points added to my account as they did not have any vouchers.

Bear in mind that the price of a room at this hotel varies enormously depending upon whether your stay is during schools hols, whether the hotel has been booked by a tour operator, or whether (like us on this occasion) you are lucky enough to find a quiet night with fewer guests.
The interior is well worn, but has lasted pretty well considering the vast numbers of clients who tend to use the hotel for one-night stays.
It's a good hotel, though, well located and (with the exception of just one occasion) the staff are always friendly, polite and happy to help.
We were informed that a revamp of the public areas is imminent, so that should make a great difference to the overall appearance.
It would be good if they could rectify faulty facilities in the en-suite shower rooms, though.
Given the popularity of this hotel, they would do well to add an extension to accommodate more guests - they must make enough to pay for that from the top prices that are often charged for a stop-over!
