Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Weekend Stay- Frederick Running Festival I stayed here because it was listed by the Frederick Running Festival as one of the partner hotels. The Festival website said the hotel offered late check out for runners ( a shower after the race is usually helpful!). We even called two weeks prior to the race to confirm that late check out woudl be allowed and were assured it was noted on our account. However, when we arrived, we were told "the manager said no late check outs for runners." I told the woman at the desk that we had called to confirm it and it should be noted on the account and she still said that her manager wont allow. I asked to speak to the manager and of course, he was "off for the weekend". Of course, right? What hotel manager takes the weekend off when they are supposedly so full they cant offer late checkout? Anyway, besides that, the property looks like it hasnt been updated in 20 years. Its old, and the room smelled like they were trying to cover up the musty smell with a cheap fragrance from the dollar store. It didnt work. Its a low cost hotel, but its really run down and not really up to a national chain standard- felt more like the place you stay at the beach for senior week. In summary, didnt deliver on promises, the reception lady was rude, and the place is pretty run down. May 13, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Nice room, but didn't like dogs in Hotel Booked room to get a good nights rest before the Frederick half marathon. Check in was great, easy, and quick. Went to a very nice clean room, then someone checked into the room next to us with a dog. When the folks next to us left for the evening the dog barked non stop. So much for a restful evening. If I would stay there again I would request that no dogs be allowed in rooms next to mine. May 10, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Small, uncomfortable room and bad service We arrived at 11:00 am and tried to check in, but the rooms weren't ready yet. This is not a big deal and have encountered this before. What WAS an issue was the conversation between the two front desk personnel (trainer and trainee): Trainee: "I apologize, but your room is not ready. If you come back at 2:00 pm they might be ready." Trainer: "I would've told them later. Then I'll be off shift and they'll have to deal with it in case the rooms aren't ready." My husband was going on a bike ride after we arrived, so he changed in the lobby bathroom. When he got out, the trainee told him our room was, in fact, ready for us. When we got into our room, it was so small, there was barely any room for our roller bags to move (think the width of an airplane aisle). I thought, whatever, we're going to be out and about and only need to sleep. Well, when it came time to sleep, the bed (king size) felt like it an old bed that hadn't been rotated in a long time. It was saggy and uncomfortable and we did not get a good nights rest. Because my husband was running the half marathon the next morning, I had requested late check-out (which is redundant bc we are Platinum Elite Priority Club Members, so it should be automatic, but we like to request it again, just in case), but again the front desk rep had other plans. Rep: "I'm sorry (clearly, she was not), we're totally booked and no one is getting late check-out" Me: "You need every room empty at the same time even though housekeeping can only clean one room at a time?" Rep: "Yes." Me: "Alrighty then" We love HIE and I can safely say that this is the worst HIE we have ever stayed in. May 10, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Average stay We were there for a day trip for a foot race that started really early. We asked if food could be available to us 30 min before the time usually made available to everyone. We didn't ask for anything hot just something cold or pastries that we could take with us. I felt like this Holiday Inn Express wasn't very accommodating. Our room was very quite, which was a great benefit to us. May 2, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Clean, but needs updated Hotel was clean and staff was very nice. Rooms and bedding very badly needs updated, sheets and pillows are old and very thin. April 24, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Would stay again This is an older HIEx and definitely shows some wear and tear, but it is clean, quiet and comfortable. The staff is efficient and friendly. Breakfast is average but adequate. It's probably not the cheapest hotel in the area and the rooms I've had are pretty small, but I have stayed here four years in a row and have never been disappointed. April 16, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Room ok, hotel outdated, and in need of an elevator. This hotel is clearly past its prime and in need of significant updates. The rooms were small and the bathroom was terrible with issues for the tile and tub. This hotel is 2 stories, but has NO elevator; how is this even possible in today's world of ADA compliance? I did not eat breakfast, but the area was clean and it appeared to be consistent with offerings at Holiday Inn hotels. I was staying on business and would be doing the same a few times a year in the Frederick area, but will only stay if here if ALL other area hotels are sold out. March 31, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Tired Hotel is tired and needs a remodel, hall carpet seemed dingy, room was clean, but overall building seemed sketchy. March 28, 2013
