However, access to the property is tricky getting of the hwy to the access road. My topper and the thing that will probably keep me from coming to this hotel again is the snarky attitude exhibited by management- on entering the bathroom of my room there was a card by the sink that said something about "Due to the popularity of our guest room amenities our housekeeping departmetn now offers these items for sale. Irons- $40 Ironing Boards $30 and so on down to Face clothes $5. Each guest room attendant is responsible for maintaining the guest room items. Should you decide to take these articles from your room instead of obtaining them from the executive housekeeper we will assume you approve a corresponding charge to your account" In my view, if people are stealing from you charge them. Don't offend the vast majority of us with a snarky little note when we check in. As I said the stay other than that went very well. The staff is excellent. Management decisions didn't impress me very much. June 6, 2014

Room was very clean and comfortable. I will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends it is right to exit on I -85 Hwy and indoor salt pool was plus. Room was clean, quiet and very restful. Breakfast was the same as usual scrambled eggs, sausage, an assortment of bread, rolls and muffins and fruit. All good, just the same. March 31, 2014

In addition, we stayed on a Wednesday night and found out that Monday thru Wednesday they served refreshments in the evening. There were hot dogs, veggies and dip and other items. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Average Service No one was at the front desk when I came to check in. When the person did come, I had to fill out a car information sheet. I'm not sure why that matters if we do not put anything in our car to indicate we are staying at the hotel. Also, I had a rental car and was traveling for business, so I did not know all the car details. My alarm clock went off at 1:30am. Housekeeping should check things like that when cleaning rooms. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Another Great Stay in Gastonia I visit Gastonia two or three times a year to visit my kids/grandkids that live in the area. I always stay at the Holiday Inn Express, and I always enjoy my stay. I'm not sure how they do it, but I am always greeted by name when I arrive. The rooms are typical HIE; clean, comfortable, quiet, and well stocked. The location is right off the highway, and very convenient to everywhere I need to go. Breakfast is standard fare, served in a nice environment. Heading to Gastonia? The Holiday Inn Express is highly recommended. March 19, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Place, but the Bed... I love staying at IHG Hotels, and usually they are for pleasant circumstances. The circumstances around this stay were not pleasant, but the stay was good for the most part. Due to the Ice Storm that seemingly crippled the area that I live in, we headed south to find a warm place to stay instead of staying at home in the cold with no power. Since I am an avid IHG guy, I went online to find a place close to where we were and that was at a reasonable price. I came across this hotel. I booked it, and we went on. Check-In was nice. I was thanked for being a Gold Elite member, and was given an option of a "Goodie Bag" or 300 bonus IHG Rewards Club points. After asking what was in the goodie bag (trail mix and a bottle of water), we opted for the Bonus Points. The lobby and the breakfast area were clean and beautiful. The interior corridors were pretty much standard to any other Holiday Inn Express. Our room was very clean. The TV was HUGE compared to other places I have stayed at. The bed, however, left much to be desired. Usually, at a Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express, the bed is comfortable. This one was unusually firm. Almost too firm. I liken it to Fred Flintstone's bed. I had a difficult time getting comfortable, but I was able to get some sleep. The next morning, the Breakfast area was jumping. Nowhere for us to sit and enjoy our meal, so we headed back to the room with our food in hand. A decent selection including pancakes, cinnamon rolls, biscuits, gravy, cereal, and fresh fruit. The price point was a good deal, and the overall experience was great. The bed is what did it for me. I would recommend this property if you like a good firm bed. It was a pleasant experience, but the bed would have to be different for me to return. March 10, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great place to stay Very clean, comfortable, and well maintained. Staff very helpful and very professional. Breakfast was really nice to with fresh cooked items, and staff making sure everything was enjoyable. Didn't get to use to pool, closed PTA. Fridge, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer and a nice flat screen pluses to a great room with clean everything. I would love to stay their again. We went to McAddenville for the Christmas Lights and we may repeat the experience next year since the hotel is perfect for that trip. I was surprised by how nice this hotel was, especially for the price. This hotel was pet friendly which is the reason we stayed there, and now I am so thankful we did. January 16, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Satisfaction promise but, only fair in result. Unfortunately, after staying at this property on three occasions I would not recommend it to others. Although the hotel met my overall expectation I cannot say the same for all areas. On each stay they ran out of Half & Half for the coffee. The breakfast was only so, so. Eggs are watery, burnt and the bacon was way over cooked. The bagels and english muffins were stale at best. The offered breakfast needs an overall. Other locations are doing a better job at this. The coffee shop at the corner was a better deal even if I did have to pay for it. Upon check out I was unable to get a copy of my bill. NO ONE was at the front desk. On the second occasion the printer was broken so again I could not get my bill. Charges on my bill were not correct either as previously agreed with the management of the hotel. This location has a Manager's Reception on some evenings. On the evening I was there the offering was pitiful. The person who was in charge of the reception was more interested in his smart phone rather than guest satisfaction. PHONES SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED WHEN WORKING!. On my last stay the front desk person was running around like crazy without any help. Cooking and setting up breakfast, trying to run the front desk, dealing with check outs and also being bellman for some guest. I think this hotel is a little understaffed so the customer service suffered. If working in this area again, I would have to think twice before I would stay at this hotel again. January 2, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Family Friendly Stayed with my sons football team. They gave us a great rate! Rooms were clean, comfortable and properly stocked. Free breakfast was good, could be better. Not a lot of space in lobby/dining area. Pool hours should be longer for kids to enjoy(on both ends am/pm). Would definitely stay here again. Asked for a list of restaurants, hey have an extensive list with the exits but no directions or addresses, I would change that. November 27, 2013

The room was clean, comfortable and safe. The indoor pool was also clean and had towels available for use. The breakfast was hit with my daughters because of the cinnabons, so there is no reason to give this place anything but 5 out of 5! November 20, 2013

I especially like the history that they have in their lobby, I never get tired of reading it. I would highly recommend this hotel to any one. The room was terrific and the room attendant who brought more towels delivered excellent customer service. The only issue was the gruffness of the night manager who was unfriendly and uninviting when we checked in at midnight. He could use more customer service training- perhaps the room attendants could give him some pointers! October 2, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not too sure on this one. We showed up late after our flight. There were two separate cars near the handicap parking. Two people were sitting in their cars, and that late at night it was very uncomfortable. As we were getting out of our car the women in one car starting yelling at the man in the handicap car to "get over here". Obviously there was no security here. She yelled a bit more at this other occupant and we went inside. There was someone being helped by the young man at the counter so we waited. When he got to us there was no priority club recognition at all, in fact there was not much conversation at all. He did not act as if he wanted to be there. Ok, I don't want to be at work all the time either, but be pleasant and greet your guests with "hi, how are you" or something to that effect. We get our key and went to our room which we had to look for as it was behind the elevator ( which I had never seen before), but we finally found it. It would have been nice if the young man had said go to the right as you get off the elevator or something to that effect. Don't like to search for my room when I arrive that late. Other then that, the room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was what you normally get at HIE. The woman doing the breakfast was pleasant. It was ok for a nights stay. Checkout was fast. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not a great place to stay I have to say that I was really disappointed with my stay. My room was dirty and smelled like smoke, even though it was a non smoking room. There was some sort of dried substance on the phone and carpet and it was clear that the room had not been cleaned with the exception of the bathroom and sheets. The front desk clerk who was also the manager was rude to her co worker when he was assisting me and said "he doesn't know what he's doing" even though he was being helpful to me. I was supposed to stay 2 nights but checked out after the first night and checked into a different hotel beucase I did not feel I could stay there one more night. I would not recommend this hotel in the future. August 30, 2013
