We stay in a lot of Holiday Inn Express hotels and this has to be the worst one we have ever stayed in. Got into our room, very dirty toilet, disgusting in fact, but I don't like to make a fuss so cleaned it myself as my daughter needed the toilet, the next thing was the pillows, the worst pillows ever!!! Flat as pancakes, which is unusual for you guys, the pillows are always lovely, big and soft, not this time, one each and completely flat. The next thing, the Wifi, firstly it cost £12.00, yes £12.00 and it was dreadful, the worst Wifi we have ever come across. How you have the nerve to charge £12.00 for such a terrible service is beyond me, you cannot actually use it for anything such a bad signal.
I sent a complaint last Monday, and I have still had no reply, actually thought your company was better than this.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Whale Almost zero breakfast
When I came down for breakfast at 8.45 am , there was almost nothing hot to eat , two dried up sausages ,some crumbs of scrambled eggs and only enough baked beans to cover the base of the heated container they were in., henceforth they were dried up.
I complained to the staff who explained that an unexpected bus load of people and arrived earlier for breakfast and that's why it had all pretty much gone !!!!.
I asked why the cook hadn't then cooked more food straight away as I'm sure I wasn't the only resident who wanted breakfast , it was still 45 minutes before breakfast was due to finish , , unfortunately they didn't really have an answer .
I asked where the nearest McDonald's was , which they directed me to and was only half a mile away !!! .
I defiantly wasn't happy and wouldn't stay at this hotel again .

We use this hotel as an overnight stop on our way to cornwall every year. Very clean, comfy rooms & great service, the complimentary breakfast is also a great bonus!
Only complaint is the sofa bed provided in family rooms, not at all comfy or suitable for 2 growing children even tho only for 1 night, suggest having a few rooms with 2 proper double beds in or interconnecting rooms maybe?
Also love the Bumble Bee pub great for a drink or a meal.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Annoyed63 Road Noise
Arrived at 13.55 but unable to check-in as system had gone down so unable to know which rooms had been cleaned
Was given a disabled room. Didn't ask for one and although may have been good for a person with a disability, highly impractable for myself.
In reception there is an ice machine but nothing in room to put ice in.
There was 54db of road noise in room with windows shut on a Saturday. The seals on double glazing have gone and am glad I wasn't staying midweek when the busy road going to be used all night.
Have to say the I breakfast looked better than it tasted also
Only plus side on the stay was staff attitude

We booked for one night as we were visiting the Gloucester area, hotel was easy to find and we were very pleased with the room and front desk service.
We knew that the breakfast was limited for choice but the quality of the food was poor eg the bread was cheap and wafer thin and the sausages were gristly ,we also knew the hotel was full and we struggled to find a table to sit at, and the limited staff on duty found it difficult to keep replenishing the stocks. Overall we had a good stay and would recommend the hotel.
Great pub/restaurant next door.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by June60 Clean Rooms and Good Service.
Reception staff efficient and friendly. Room clean, sofa bed made up for us on our return from a meal out. The staff were under pressure at breakfast, cutlery trays were empty as were the buffet trays but they were helpful when asked and soon replenished the trays. There was a good selection of food and the scrambled eggs were delicious.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by clareg Awful Breakfast but lovely staff and comfortable rooms
I had booked two rooms for an overnight stay. One for my mother and the other for my 2 children (aged 17 yrs male and 13 yr old female) I had booked what I thought was a twin bedded room with a rollout but on arrival was told that one could not have a rollout in a twin bedded room. The twin beds in the room were large enough and very comfortable - I shared with my daughter and there was enough room not to be kicked! However this is not the point as I thought I had booked a rollout and was told this was the case at booking. The Holiday inn call centre who had taken the booking had misled me and this is annoying. The staff at the Holiday inn in Cheltenham were apologetic and very nice.
Oh the breakfast was inedible...plastic sausages and congealed scrambled egg. Could eat it.

Bread and beans seldom stocked up. The choice of foods was poor and when you consider that I was here for 9 days, it was not exactly the start of the day that I was looking for. Scrambled eggs, sausage and beans EVERY day.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Steve974 Holiday Inn Express Gloucester
Good standards all round in a clean and well managed hotel very conveniently located for Gloucester and the environs. Rommel spacious but provision in the room more on the basic side. Breakfast a bit limiting with cereal range. Bar area had some noisy groups in the evening and the manager left them to it; could be a little insensitive. Overall good value for money.

Was placed in room that was directly above a loud party downstairs and with no air conditioning. Evening staff was slow to respond or assist with only a token fan being provided. Morning staff/manager was better saying they'd credit back the Priority points I had used.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by readybrek Quiet Location
I had a room facing into the courtyard and have to say that I have never stayed in such a quiet town hotel. Nice to be able to keep the windows open all night without getting disturbed by people or traffic!
Clean room, comfy bed but ridiculously cramped bathroom - no space to put the bathmat down until you close the door! Breakfast menu good but dinner overpriced and food quality did not live up to the flowery menu descrptions.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Rafflesbeau Wot no muesli?
We like Holiday Inns, and the Gloucester Express is well up to standard. The bed was comfortable, the room warm, the dog welcome and the bathroom soooooooooooo clean! My only gripe is that there was no muesli at breakfast and when I asked I was told they don't offer muesli. Come on HIE, everybody but everybody offers muesli for breakfast! Apart from that it was excellent and very good value. (But no muesli. I can't believe that in this day and age a hotel does not offer muesli. Really, can you believe it? Honestly, no muesli.............)

We stayed en route to our holiday in Cornwall as the location was very suitable as close to the M5. We were very impressed with the standard of room and good value. We were traveling with our dog and were allocated a convenient room by very helpful staff. We thought the inclusive breakfast a very welcome bonus.

Room very good although I thought providing 2 tea bags a bit mean.
(I did get more from the dining area)
Very friendly and pleasant staff.
Only complaint was breakfast - no bacon ! Otherwise good range of food with good quality muesli and orange juice.
As you are near the relatives I visit, I will be staying again !

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by MJC404 Lovely room, poor breakfast
Our room, including the bed, was clean and very comfortable. It was also very quiet, despite the hotel being quite full. The reception staff were cheerful and helpful. Breakfast choices are always somewhat limited but on our second morning the scrambled egg ran out by about 8.30, leaving a lot of people rather upset. Consequently, the only choices for hot food were sausages and baked beans, together with toast.
However, this hotel is very conveniently situated for touring the Gloucestershire area so we are quite likely to use it again. Hopefully, when we do next use it, we might get a decent breakfast.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Traveller27 Pleasant stay.
Standard Holiday Inn Express. I had a pleasant 3 day stay with no major problems or annoyances. The value for money was very good for the rate I paid.
Bed was comfortable and breakfast reasonable. Good modern beverage dispenser for coffee / hot chocolate etc.
There were a couple of minor faults in the room - one of the lights did not work and the soap dispenser in the shower needed replacing as it did not work very well. These are faults that need very good housekeeping staff to pick up on.
The location was good for visiting Gloucester and for South Wales.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by AlsSpringer Hotel ok, pub next door needs avoiding.
Standard Holiday Inn Express but not the best I have stayed in. The last time I stayed the bar was not well stocked and I arrived in my room to find the toilet had been used and left unflushed all day - not ideal! Staff are pleasant and helpful though and it will be better if they complete the rollout of Sky TV in the rooms.
Perhaps the worst bit is the pub next door that does evening meals and due to the hotels location this is important. During the winter it's cold and drafty unless your lucky enough to get a table next to the fire - not managed that yet! The service is poor, slow and sometimes wrong and the food is not the best - small portions and never very hot. The last time I was there they served me a main course on a plate with the biggest chip out of the side you can imagine.
Overall, having stayed here a number of times I will stay in the hotel again. However, until the pub changes considerably I will not be eating there. Consequently, I don't recommend using the package including dinner.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by FbillP Working during Chelteham Cup Week
I can only give a fair to average overall rating, mainy for the reasons below:
I had to work during Cheltenham Cup Week - but not at the Races. The Hotel, location and staff were fair enough but the price for the 3 night stay during this week left me pretty dazed. - V.Expensive.! Like 3+ times regular rate.!
OK I knew it would be busy and I had to work, so not much choice as this is as near as I could get to where I needed to be for the week.
I phone ahead to give at least 4+ hours notice of my late pm arrival - even though I had pre-booked via The Priority Club system.
On arrival the front lounge was packed and I had to wait for service to check in. Then I had to wait for them to "print out" a check in form that had not been done and so on....
I got the impression that some of the other staff were aslo "occupied" out the back.
What happened to The Priority Club = Express CheckIn. ?
Esp. as I had given the extra courtsey of phoning ahead.
After a long night drive, I was not impressed by this at all.
I am a Priority Club Gold member and frequent Holi Inn establishments fairly often.
My room was on ground floor and not too far away from lifts and main drag of the lobby etc. OK easy access. But for two if the nights the "Racing Guests" were pretty noisy and with a good deal of very loud voices and some banging and crashing going on until 1-2 am.
Also not too impressed with that. I was on the edge of complaining to reception but decided not to make a fuss. - Maybe I should have ?
Front Desk attendance and service for the rest of the stay was pretty good however - esp. If I avoided the "Race Goers" queques.
Conclusion: I you have to work in the area and are NOT going to the Races, avoid this Hotel (at this price) or try to change your travel dates for a less busy time. Then it will be fine and as expected for Holi Inn Ex.
PS. The breakfast sausages at Holi Inn Ex's in the area have become really uninspiring. I think they could do much much better and without adding anything significantly to the costs.

Excellent - although I normally stay ine various hotels including Holiday Inn - this is the only the second Holiday Inn Express I have stayed in, the first only recently in Germany. I was very much surprised of the very high standard in both placess. The service, room and help was what I would expect from hotels which are a lot more expensive.
If I had to pick a fault it would be allowing some guests (be in part of the same party) going for breakfast in their pyjamas', my wife was ready to walk out of the room.
