Last minute over night trip. Used points. Place had a creepy guest vibe in the lobby. The rooms were horrible and the whole floor wreaked of cabbage...no lie.

I always enjoy going to Goldsboro, NC. The staff and help are always very courteous, and treat me like family. I hate to leave. I will be back again in October for another visit.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Lee39 Hotel is in bad shape
First impressions - #403, dated on August 12, 2013.
1) The blue carpet at the entrance of the door was tattered, torn and dirty.
2) There was NO internet service in my room.
3) The elevators were dirty
4) Strands of hair was found between the sheets. I asked the front desk for new, clean sheets, which I NEVER received.
5) The drapes in my room was full of dust.
6) The computer door did not activate or access my room key. I had to make three trips downstairs to reset my door room key, which I found it to be very inconvenience.
7) The room desperately needs a touch-up of paint. The walls are dirty.
8) I was NOT recognizes as Rewards Club Member.....
If someone else beside the on-site manager follow through with a quick inspection, he or she will understand my review regarding this hotel. I travel frequently to North Carolina and stayed at the Holiday Inn Express at Jacksonville, Havelock, Wilmington and Fayetteville, NC. Unfortunately, this is the worst hotel I ever visited. I certify this statement to be true on the date that I stayed at this hotel.

My stay was ok, not the usual standard of holiday inn express. The furniture was old and all the tables in the breakfast area wobbled. The a/c worked ok in the room but it never seemed to get real cool. Nice staff but this place needs a pick up

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Stonewall53 Poor beds and OLD furnishings
I stayed in this hotel the 1st time in 1996; and have stayed many times over the last 17 years. The past 2 (or 3) times I've stayed there; I've specifically asked for a firm (newer) bed - and been told that they have given me that.(Having had 4 back surgeries in the last 20 years doesn't allow me to tolerate a worn-out or soft mattress.) However, each time I've been extremely disappointed with what is supposed to be one of their best beds. The table, chairs, dresser, etc are at least 12 - maybe 15 years old; I KNOW - I've sat and worked in those rooms many hours!
This property needs some serious updating! They seem to always "in the process" of something; there was a construction permit on the front glass again this time.
I had originally made my reservation for 2 nights; but left after the 1st night for more comfortable lodging. I will NOT be staying in this hotel again. As a "Platinum member", I always try to stay in IHG hotels; but with the closest alternative being 15 (inconvenient) miles away - I may just stay at the hotel next door. (Incidentally, this property is almost as old; but has been "refurbished" the right way in the last 5 years.)
I joined Priority Club in 1996, and I am more disappointed in this property than any other that I have stayed at over the years - that has remained an IHG hotel.

I like this hotel because they usually have great continental breakfasts. However, on this stay they ran out of yogurt and no bananas. Usually a clean hotel and nice staff.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by 12KRS Poor floor plan / flow design
Beds were comfortable but poor lighting in bath and space shuttle-like shower were an inconvenience.
Breakfast choices were more limited than in other IHG sites. Noted a poor design choice for breakfast service area:
One had to stroll through table and chair arrangements set up just inside main doors in the lobby to access front desk, thus not very relaxing to eat while other guests checking out.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Fwed Room 210
This was the worst experience I have ever had at a Holiday Inn Express. The first night I had to ask for another room because the room I was given was connected to another room. I asked if I could have one bed and possibly a desk. I was told they could not up grade me because my reservation was made on the internet. My company always makes reservation on the internet and I have always been upgraded. I took the room she gave me. The chairs were old and dirty, the room was damp and twice I was unable to turn the water off. The first time I was able to with a towel. the second time I had to go down and let them know. I went down because the phone did not work in the room and I advised them of that on the first night. I got ready for work and as I was leaving I advised the desk again that the water was still running. Housekeeping was standing there and got on it immediately.

Overall the staff was friendly and made me feel welcome. The breakfast was good.
The pillows were a little lumpy. In the morning there were several people wanting to do something or pay for their rooms and there was only 1 person on duty. She was focused working with us one at a time but when there 3 people there, and she was still working with the first customer, I thought that there should have been some backup people to come and help at the desk on Saturday morning. Just a thought.
I was disappointed that the pool was not open yet. I heard that the YMCA is not good place to go so I did not use the free passes there.

I was very pleased with the customer service and helpful management team at this location. The stay on this site was just as if we were at my own home and loved every minute of it. It was a very clean and well kept property but most of all it was the team of people serving my every needs that really made my stay a success.
Thank you much,

For a Holiday Inn Express they did very well and I was surprised. They are trying to make themselves like their bigger brother a standard Holiday Inn. Evening reception was nice touch, even though the beer was a little warm. Had a room problem and they moved me to a two room suite. Sheets were a little old and had been washed many times- need to be replaced. Decent restraurants near by. Price seemed a little high for an Express- seemed like the price for a standard HI.

Not recognized as PC Member and no gift bag.
Room AC seemed to cool ok but the room was humid.
Room fixtures are worn and aged. But housekeeping does a good job here keeping things clean. Morning breakfast host was friendly but the food offerings were lacking. Just average stay at best.

Nice stay-friendly staff. My only issue was I had requested a 2:00 PM checkout when I booked the room and upon check in. The hotel staff wrote this down when I checked in, but didn't relay the message to the a.m. staff and they knocked on the door at 11:00 and then called at 12:00 and again at 1:00 and again at 1:30 to see when I would be leaving. It was pouring rain, but I finally just left when they called again at 1:45 to see when I would be leaving. As a priority club member, the extended checkout is nice to have when working that evening in the same city, but not if I'm going to be asked continuously when I am leaving. I rather sit in the car somewhere and try to work.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Aerie Reception Desk Personnel Outstanding
I have traveled a great deal during the years before my retirement and stayed at hundreds of hotels and motels all across the country and beyond. During that time I have had many very good experiences and been impressed by some very good service. The reception desk personnel here was the very best I have had without exception. The receptionist (Kathy) when I checked in greeted me as well as I've ever been greeted, checked me in quickly and efficiently, and followed up with a telephone call shortly after I was in my room to ask if everything was alright and if I needed anything. Later I found that the commode was plugged and sought to borrow a plunger to unplug it. Instead Kathy called a maintenance man who came to the room and, after having to get different equipment, solved the problem. Within a few minutes after the maintenance man was finished, she called again to be sure everything was alright. I was impressed by the follow up.
I was registered for three nights lodging and had breakfast three mornings. Each of the three mornings, a different lady was tending the breakfast area and all were friendly, on task, and a pleasure to talk with. They seemed to care about those of us eating our breakfast, something I have seldom experienced before.
I highly recommend this place. In fact, I'll be back in a few weeks and look forward to it.

I have stayed here at least once a month for the past two years and my day gets off to a great start because the breakfast lady always greets everyone with a huge smile and a warm good morning. I will not be staying here anymore do to circumstances beyond my control and I sure will miss my good morning smile.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by BikeCommuter High Traffic Property, dirty room
This HI Express gets a lot of military patronage due to proximity to a base. I was placed in the last available room (suite with a whirlpool tub) at increased cost, despite making the reservation weeks in advance.
The room had some brown lumps on the wall (something more than dirt) and the back of the bathroom door obviously needed maintenance.
There were stray hairs in shower, but I've decided this is just normal. The cushions on the chair (for the work table in the room) were worn out, making the chair pretty uncomfortable to sit on.
That said, The TV, toilet, lights, fridge and heater worked.
Coffee, sausage, artificial eggs (poorly prepared) and Cinnamon Rolls were available for breakfast. The breakfast room is crowded, making it difficult to walk through the lobby to the door.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Stonewall Worn out bed & worn out hotel
I first stayed at this property(as a HIE) 16 years ago - I seriously believe much of the furniture is that old. I hadn't stayed there in a while; and made a "special request" for a firm bed. No such luck - bed was soft and uncomfortable; HVAC unit was extremely noisy & started & stopped with additional noise all night. Planned to stay for 2 nights; but couldn't take it and moved to a nearby property for the 2nd night. I know that this hotel has been thru several renovations; but they didn't address the guests comforts. "Holiday Inn" needs to seriously address this property - it is a prime location in Goldsboro; but it has to be losing out on a lot of business. I - for one -will not be staying there again; and would NOT recommend it.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Dudya No HBO
On Monday 19 November, upon arrival at the Holiday Inn Express in Goldsboro, NC I had no audio signal on HBO. All the other channels seem to work fine. I contacted the front desk customer service person who said “Yes, a customer mentioned that to me this morning and the cable company hasn’t fixed it yet.”
You are a world known, huge organization, with millions of customers. I can’t believe the local cable company can’t provide you with better service than that? I live in Whiteville, NC. Ten miles from nowhere and I get service within 24 hours. However, I can’t afford HBO.
One of the perks that I enjoy about traveling, and staying at your motels is to have a nice HBO movie after a log day at work away from home.
I can’t understand why the local Time Warner would not provide you with a better service agreement than this?
The employees here are top notch and in no way do I want to bring discredit upon them however, the manager should do a much better job of motivating the local Time Warner to provide the same stellar service provided here at their hotel. Two days without HBO, multiplied by 5 floors of customers, equals?
Maybe you can help the management team here with some tips on how to motivate the cable company?

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by foody81 A/C Rattled All Night
When I checked in, people were crowded around the front desk socializing with the staff glancing at my check-in paperwork I had to sign. I didn't appreciate it b/c it stated personal info about me. The staff didn't seem to care that people were gathered all over the desk listening as I stated my name, address, etc...
The whole night the control panel to the a/c rattled. I tried to put heavy objects on it, even leaning the chair against it to help stop it but it got worse half way through the night. The people I was traveling with had the same problem.
