Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Staff/Management just doesn't care Horrible place to stay.The overall hotel is what you would expect, respectable amenities, nothing great, but not run down, but I wasn't able to relax. The hotel was decided to have a conference on a Tuesday night during the week, with attendees congregating on the 2nd floor throughout the hallways and stairways. This went on way past 9pm at night, so loud nobody could sleep. I called the hotel staff a couple times, but they didn't really care and did nothing about it. About an hour later, one of those attendees tripped an emergency alarm which easily woke up the entire hotel. Asked to speak to someone in management about the issue, nobody would call me back. Spoke to a manager the next day, he didn't really care about it, and i got the feeling this was a regular occurrence. Not going to stay there again!! April 5, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by I'LL NEVER VISIT THIS HOTEL AGAIN I decided to have my daughters bday party at this hotel for their "waterpark". Their waterpark consists on a water slide, kiddie area, very small portion of swimming pool was for swimming and a hot tub. But I got over that, however the lifeguards are worthless!!!! My neices kept getting pushed over by kids slidding down the middle of the kiddie sildes and when I went to talk to the lifeguard about it, he turned his head the other way. How unbeliveablely rude!!!! Not to mention the two rooms I reserved for the party were already paid for ahead of time, at check-in they charged me for a 3rd room because I didn't bring my bank statement stating I already paid for the rooms. Ok so I'll deal with that, however because they charged me for that 3rd room it was taken out of my account so I had no money. I called Holiday Inn, spoke w/ the general manager who after 8 days of waiting for my money stated it wasn't their fault. She failes to realize that if they wouldn't have charged me for an extra room, my bank account would not have been overdrawn. And to all this headache, I get half off one room at a hotel I will never go back to. Wow......thats some customer service right there. March 12, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Confusion I made reservation through the 800 number and specifically asked if the pool area was free. It is not. Only free for two people per room. This property has tried to correct the error at central booking to no avail. The manager was called and took care of the problem without a hitch. We only used the facility for 1 1/2 hours with our granddaughter and her mom and dad and went out for dinner. The property is clean and the staff friendly. The water park is well cared for. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Staff training on promotions offered??? Our family stayed here after a nice time at Michigan Adventure. Thought that I would reserve a room with a few extras. We were to have a room with a pizza and soft drink package. Our original package had stated that we would be getting 2 12inch one topping pizzas and 4 cans of soft drinks. The reservation stated for us to contact the front desk with our selection of beverages and pizza topping choice. Well, let's just say.... They didn't have a Clue! We got one pizza delivered to our room and a 2 liter soft drink bottle that must have been older than our daughter, who was three. My husband went to the front desk and they tried to fix things. They delivered 4 can soft drinks (which was the original offering) The second pizza never arrived. She stated that she thought I didn't want it. Really? Why would I reserve and pay extra, for a package that I didn't want???? Well, on our way then, we left. We usually thoroughly enjoy our stays with Holiday Inn. We were not very satisfied with a hotel offering a package and the staff not being trained on the specifics of it. We did enjoy the water park, which was very nice. The room was comfortable. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not best option for business travel I typically stay in hotels for business travel 10-20 nights every month. It's important that I can get a good nights sleep and be able to work in my room. During my visit I experienced kids running up and down the halls and doors slamming until late into the evening. The bed was very comfortable but I wish I could have gotten more sleep in it. The front desk staff customer service was fair. The little plaque in the room says "if you have forgotten a toiletry item please ask and we'll replace it", I asked the front desk for a toothbrush and I was directed to Walgreen's. February 25, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing breakfast & courteous staff This is our fourth time staying at the Holiday Inn Express-Grand Rapids South & was enjoyable again. They have put in new carpet which was nice & were about to update curtains, which really needed it. The mattresses in the King room are nice memory foam & very comfortable. But the sofa sleeper in the King Executive was broke & not comfortable at all for our grandchildren to sleep on. I would suggest bringing your own sleeping bags (like I'm glad I did# for grandkids if they are staying in the room with you. The extra bedding in our room was dingy & worn looking. But overall the room was nice & spacious. The indoor water slide & park area, though not real big like some we've been to, is very younger children friendly! We had our 5 grandchilden #ages 20months to 10yrs) & son with us & a good time was had by all. Ofcouse, the best part is the amazing breakfast!! Our grandchildren couldn't wait until morning to go eat!!! Even the youngest one ate well becaause of the great variety of breakfast food!! January 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great fun for little kids We stayed 2 nights last weekend (fri and sat) and had a great time. We had 3 rooms with 4 kids under 3 years old. The waterpark was perfect for them. The rooms were clean and larger. The breakfast was great. The rooms were loud, but expected. The halls did quiet around 10p though. We did think that it was weird that each of our three rooms were charged a different price, yet all 2 double beds on the same floor. January 19, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fun-filled place for families to stay The Holiday Inn Grand Rapids South goes above and beyond to make sure guests have fun. Took my son & his friends for a 13th birthday weekend. The boys had a blast! The breakfast staff was top notch, making sure everything was clean and well-stocked. The room was spacious and spotless. But the highlight is the Big Dip mini-waterpark. Everyone had a blast! The only complaint is they don't allow anyone under 16 in the hot tub. Maybe this could be an "evenings only" rule. Also, they are very strict with the number of wrist bands per room. We almost got put into a king room, when we reserved two queens. They would have made us pay for 2 extra wristbands.In fact the manager even told us we would not be allowed to check in with 4 people at all. Fortunately Priority Club Guest Relations came through for us, and straightened it all out. December 14, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed... I booked two rooms, for two nights for our family to celebrate the holidays with our parents from 8 hours away. I booked MONTHS in advance and called numerous times to discuss the importance of our rooms being adjoining. It was the ONLY thing that mattered to us. I also called to discuss the availability of the hospitality room overlooking the waterpark area. To my disappointment were we given 1 room on one end of the hotel and the 2nd room on the opposite. Upon voicing my concerns, the numerous phone calls I've made with this preference indicated we were NOT accommodated. Told it was not possible and the best they could do was somewhere nearby rooms across the hall from one another. We weren't offered a thing in compensation, which was discouraging and the manager claimed he knew nothing about my request. The hospitality room (we were told) was under construction??? Why weren't we told this when we called. Overall, a simple (yet VERY important request to our family who sees one another ONE time per year) was completely overlooked with no remorse. We will not be back, sadly, as the kids had a great time. I expect more from this hotel chain and was disappointed that the hotel filled all weekend long with dirty, drinking, drugs, smoking, people. We had to complain twice that our room smelled so strong of marijuana and cigarettes. Much help needs to be done at this location. December 14, 2012

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great bedding, room and waterpark! The room was a great size and the bed and bedding were awesome. They had light snacks in the evening which was a nice surprise. The waterpark was great for the kids. However the hot tub wasn't very warm and my kids weren't allowed in it, even if I was with them. They were disappointed because when the waterslide wasn't open the pool water was quite chilly. The breakfast wasn't the best selection we've seen from Holiday Inn Express (we like the option of bacon, cheese omelets, and fruit). We did have one issue with noise from the room above ours). It literally sounded like they were going to come through our ceiling), but I called the front desk after listening to it for an hour, and they must have taken care of it. They were disappointed that kids are always banned from the hot tub (bot tubs are a big hit with our kids). Perhaps the hotel would consider family hours where everyone could enjoy the hot tub. The staff was very accommodating. We wish that this hotel offered recycling for its guests; we ended up hauling quite a bit of recyclables home. December 1, 2012

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice place to stay, good value, water park was great for the kids. We enjoyed the stay kids loved the pool area rooms confortable and clean. We did not arrive until after midnight first night staff seemed confused on how to manage this process had us a no show, even though I indicated ETA when reserving the room. Otherwise staff super nice. Breakfast variety and amount was very minimun, cold eggs, no bacon, over cooked sausage links, no fruit on Saturday, only a few things on Sunday,no healthy choices. Lots of choices for breakfast and yummy coffee! The staff was very helpful. I was hosting a large event in their conference center. They loaned items to me that I had forgotten to bring. My wife had back issues that day and she raved on how great the beds were! We stayed a Saturday night and since all the hotels were booked in Holland that night (Hope College Family Weekend) - we were forced to drive over to Grand Rapids to get a decent hotel AND to enjoy a cool water park (BONUS - ding, ding, ding). Oh yeah, since the water park draws in many families - the breakfast on Sunday was a literal freak show. There were so many people eating breakfast in the hallway and walking around bumping each other that I grabbed a brown banana and a dry bagel and scooted. Water Park? YES! Saturday night stay? Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Quite Disappointed I have stayed at this property numerous times, and have not experienced any major problems. I have always been treated like a valued guest. I was particularly disappointed with this visit, as there was a question in my mind as to the cleanliness of the room. There was a large clump of hair attached to one of the washcloths I removed from the rack in the bathroom. This was not a single hair that is sometimes found in rooms, but appeared to something that had been removed from a hairbrush. There were also several strands of hair present in the bedding, and one of the four pillows on the bed appeared to have been used. The hair that was found in the bedding did not appear to be pbic hair, or I would have contacted the front desk immediately. I had checked in late, and upon check-in the front desk had told me there were no other rooms of that type available. I was also told upon check-in that there were no upgrades avaialble. At the time I had discovered there was a question with the bedding, I had already unpacked, and it was too late for housekeeping. I also did not wish to pack everything back up and move to another room. With as many nights as are spent in hotels, I have learned not to look to close at the cleanliness of the rooms, but I was very disappointed this time. I normally have some contact with hotel management during my stays there, and was going to bring it to their attention, but that opportunity never arose during this stay. October 25, 2012
