Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by dogs We were almost totally satisfied with our stay at this hotel except for their dog policy. Change your policy on dogs in the rooms. Designate certain rooms for dogs and inform clients that they are dog allowed rooms. I do not want to stay in a room where a dog has been allowed to stay. In addition, anyone who brings a dog into the hotel room with certification that it is a service dog must be in attendance in the room with the dog at all times. Clients who violate the rule as the occupants of the adjoining room to our first assigned room should be asked to leave the hotel. An unattended barking dog in the room next to ours, as we experienced is totally unacceptable. The staff did change our room immediately. As we travel quite extensively we will now inquire before we make reservations about all hotels dog policy and we will select a hotel which does not allow dogs and/or has designated rooms for those guests who need to have dogs . We hope you change your policy to our recommended policy or we will find other hotels that meet our criteria. August 4, 2014

Room was clean, property looked much better with all the old furnishings removed from the parking lot. Front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful. We will see you again soon!! July 30, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Way overpriced The hotel is clean and the breakfast bar offers a variety of food. The staff is very helpful. Unfortunately the price-value ratio is such that I will not return. Paying about $240.00 for one night for a room other hotels of the same quality charge about half keeps me from coming back. I also cannot recommend this hotel because of this poor value relative to the price. July 29, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by West Coast Trip to California and Oregon My wife and I took a trip to the West Coast, starting in San Diego, we drove 1,941 Miles to get to Oregon over a period of 9 days. Of course this was a lot to cover, but with pre-planning by my wife, we had a great time. We stayed at 9 different Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express Locations. This was a preplanned event from six months earlier. The stay in the Grover Beach was absolutely great. The service was very friendly. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Still a Great place to stay. This hotel is a favorite of mine and has been for 20 years. Staff has in the past always been great and I felt welcomed each stay. It appears the long time staff has been replaced by youngsters that have very little people skills and about the same knowledge of customer service. I trust Sam will deal with this going forward. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Room 110 My wife and I were traveling with our six month old son to Lompoc, CA to visit his grandparents. We stopped at this location just past midnight to get some rest and finish the drive the following morning. It ended up being an unpleasant and uncomfortable experience. The lobby seemed clean, the hotel seemed nice enough. When I asked the front desk clerk how he was doing, he said "I've been better": We were given room 110, which is on the first floor at the end of the hall. We were immediately hit with a humid bleach and body odor smell when we opened the door. We initially wanted to change rooms, but with a sleeping infant and it being past midnight, we decided to just open the sliding glass door and do our best to air out the room. Unfortunately, we ended up looking at the back patio which was crumbling and wet and looked out into a dirt hill that had assorted pieces of garbage strewn about. Sort of like an entrance to a cave. We aired out the room for about twenty minutes while we checked out the place. A couple of loud lightbulbs. Bathroom was really old. Smallest toilet I've ever seen. My wife pulled back the covers just to make sure it was safe for the baby. The only good thing about the room was the bed. Once we had him sorted and we had changed, I went to close the sliding door and it was difficult to lock. Anyway, when we woke up the next morning at 7, the room looked even worse in the daylight so we immediately packed up and left. The rest of the hotel looked like it may be nice, but certainly not our room. I will not be staying at this location ever again. I'm not even sure why it should be associated with Pismo in any way, it's closer to Grover/Arroyo Grande. I've stayed about 20 room nights this year at HIE in different locations, and this was the worst experience by far. So disappointing. July 22, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Comfort I have come to expect We planned a last minute trip to the Pismo Beach area and chose this hotel, even though it was not in view of the beach. We were pleasantly surprise by both the appearance and even a sunset view from out balcony (room faced north). The staff were friendly and ready to answer any of our questions. When we left, my wife left her phone in the room and they called us before we even new it was missing and ready with information for shipping. Even though the eggs weren't very appetizing, there was plenty of other food options to choose from. Holiday In Express aspires to provide a positive experience that we have come to expect. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Everything good but...... Check in was quick and easy. The bed was comfortable, the tv was great. The lighting outside the bathroom was out as well as the vanity next to the bed. The evening staff were able to fix one light and left the other for the morning crew. The morning staff did not fix anything and the front desk staff tried to convince my wife it was suppose to be that way....I'm glad it was a short stay. Price per room was high. July 16, 2014

The Zinfindel wing is a little noisy from nearby traffic on the east and the west sides if you are trying to get any work done during the day. Can't leave the sliding door open for fresh air. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good value for the area We stayed here on a sold out weekend ( Pismo car show), but still found our room to be quiet and comfortable. The hotel itself is older and the furnishings a little dated, but the staff is always friendly and accommodating--they are this property's best asset. The convenience of being able to eat at AJ Spurs without driving is also a plus. The breakfast buffet was well stocked with good selection, but seating at prime time is crowded. The pool is short on lounge chairs and big on families, so if you are counting on relaxing by the pool, probably should check somewhere else. June 25, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A great hotel in Pismo Beach I stayed here two nights for business trip, June 2014. It's not along the cliffs like several others but it's less than a minute off 101. It's about a 5 minute drive to the pier and downtown and minutes from a couple of big box stores if you forgot something for your stay. There is an In-n-Out Burger nearby as well. The reason is that the property manager/owner continues to improve the quality of service and the property. It is always fresh, clean and has an attentive staff. Although it is situated near a freeway, it is quiet and sleep quality is terriffic. This property should be the example of all Holiday Inn Express locations in the country. June 17, 2014

It took two changes to get it right as the staffer at the desk did not understand what away from freeway meant, and I had to change a second time. June 6, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Nice, but... The hotel is laid-out rather nicely (though I got confused when I pulled in because I came in from a different entry way). But I've stayed at other H/I Express that offered HD programming and even offered microwave ovens at no extra cost, and offered larger refridgerator. The reason for my observation was because I was going to stay longer than overnight. The breakfast was quite nice with plenty of offerings. They offered coffee full time in the lobby (later in the afternoon it was cold, though). The Staff was friendly enough, the room was comfortable, but you could hear people in the hall way (the room door doesn't seal properly). Overall, it was a nice stay. June 3, 2014
