Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by golfkat Great Location, Central to Crazy Horse, and Rushmore
This might be the best located hotel in all of the Black Hills. Not far from 1880 Railroad, Rapid City and the airport, it is also so close to Custer State Park, the Crazy Horse Memorial and Mt Rushmore. Also, close to Keystone, Sturgis, and Deadwood. Best feature might be its proximity to Linda's Deli, just across the RR tracks, walking distance. They should call it a café, as it is not a typical deli. They have numerous hot dishes, including the best French Dip sandwich in South Dakota!!!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by VickiW456 Very clean and comfortable hotel with a very friendly staff.
I don't believe I could have asked for a better place to stay while visiting the Black Hills area.
The only thing that we noticed about the complimentary breakfast was the lack of variety when it came to fresh fruit. We stayed five nights and the only fresh fruit that was offered for breakfast were banana(s).
Don't let this stop you from staying here because they did offer a wide variety of breakfast options like: boiled eggs, omelet, ham, sausage patties and links, pancakes, yogart, pastries, donuts, bagels, cereal, ect.... I'm sure you will be able to find something to satisfy your hunger. Everything was delicious.

An hour after our checkout, Brenda called to let us know that we left behind our camera bag with equipment. She was so pleasant and told us she would ship it to us immediately!
Thank you so much for caring enough to call and be concerned about making sure we received it. It arrived safely last week.
Again, many thanks for your courteous service!

Great place! GREAT staff! Everything was perfect, the room, the staff, breakfast, pool, it was a great choice for our short stay in Hill City. We cut our stay short a few days and they were able to rent our room out again and get us a full refund for the days we missed. I thought this was great service. We will be back and will definitely stay at this hotel :) .

A good place to stay central to Custer State Park and good access to Mt. Rushmore. The service staff was excellent , eager to help with area questions and provide suggestions. They were very friendly and informative about the area and recommendations for things to see and do.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ctbsk55 Best in the Blackhills!
Modern, clean, quiet. This hotel location (Hill City) and staff are the best we've found! The only drawback is that we we will not know if there are other nice hotels in the area beacuase we will always stay here! Ask for Brenda if you have any questions or requests. We asked to move from double queens to a king suite. Brenda made it happen and even moved our belongings while we were out for the day.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by highplainsdriver Outdated property, high price
Admittedly, it is high season and we made a last-minute decision to visit Mount Rushmore. This Hill City property was available, and we bit the bullet to pay full rack rate -- no discounts for AAA or anything else.
The pros: it was good to have a place to sleep, and the location is not far from Rushmore and Crazy Horse. The cons: the property felt old and tired -- dirty walls, grimy room curtains, cramped lobby -- and the breakfast was uninspiring, aside from the trademarked cinnamon rolls. I would go so far to say that it is the worst HIE we have stayed at, and that HIE corporate should make an unannounced visit to see if this hotel should even be carrying the Holiday Inn Express name.
Very disappointed. Would not recommend unless there was no other option.

Not only was this hotel in the heart of where our family was visiting, it had wonderful staff, pillow top beds with down comforters. The room was spacious and clean. Breakfast had lots of choices (hot and cold). Price not too bad for the time of year and askig prices around the area.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by SDvisitors Old, needs up-dating, but good location for Black Hills.
Key cards would not work..front desk staff re-keyed cards..still did not work..staff used master key card so we could enter our room..staff said it would be 2-3 hours before door lock could be re-programmed..and if we left for dinner we would have to wait for front desk staff to let us enter our room..problem was immediately rectified by another staff member.
Housekeeping: dirty washcloth left in bathroom for a total of 2 days..towels, handtowels, washcloths, toiletries, bag for ice bucket, coffee/condiments/cups not replenished one day..beds not made one day.
Breakfast staff handled breads/pastries with bare hands at least once. Breakfast items were very low on occasion.
Carpet very dirty..sheer curtains full of dust/light fixtures very dusty.
Head housekeeper, Mary, was very nice and helpful, and immediately corrected housekeeping problems!

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this hotel in the Black Hills. It is centrally located and we drove to sights nearby. Stayed so busy that never got in the pool. Breakfast room is a little crowded if you wait until 7:30 or later to go. Breakfast was basically the same every day. Lady that worked in the breakfast room engaged and advised guests on sights to see. Had trouble with people in room above us being noisy but called front desk and it was corrected immediately. Thank you!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JameyW Good choice.
This hotel is one of the cleanest we have stayed in. Rooms were nicely appointed, beds comfortable, nice tv and furniture. There were some dusty areas in corners of carpet, and the bathroom could have been cleaned better. Overall we were happy. This hotel was expensive but it was 4th of July weekend and we are in a tourist town. Hill City is beautiful and the hotel is easily within walking distance to downtown shops, restaurants. Quick driving access to Custer, State Park, Crazy Horse, Mt Rushmore, everything we wanted to do!
Pool is nice, clean. Breakfast was fine although extremely crowded (we took our food to the room, there was no where to sit....again Holiday weekend). Wish they offered more healthy choices like more fresh fruit, lowfat yogurt, etc.
Staff was friendly on every encounter we had with anyone! Would definitely stay there again!
Great choice for families with kids!!

Perfect location for visiting Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Custer State Park. Hour to Badlands and Wall Drug but a very easy ride. Easy to get around. Hill City is a cute town, nice walking Main St.
Perfect location says it all. Quiet. Lots of kids but never heard any of them. Staff is very helpful in planning when to see what. Easy ride to Rapid City airport. Be prepared... No CVS or fast food in town. When you past the Walmart outside Rapid City, that's the only chain of shopping. It truly is stepping back in time.
As everyone says, the breakfast area is small, but it turns over quickly. There are tables outside if you so choose.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Kirk94132 Excellent courteous maid & Front Desk Service. Do not disturb missing.
The Front Desk and maids were very courteous and helpful. The beds were comfortable. There was a nice indoor swimming pool with a hot tub that was just the right temperature. The room was large enough. The bathroom area was large enough. The desk in the room was large enough and was larger than I have found in other motels. The WiFi worked with very little trouble. The breakfast was excellent. The only problems we had were that we had to go down to the front desk to get a "Do not disturb" sign and that they called us shortly before we had finished moving our things out of the room before the agreed upon check out time and asked if they could put our check out through their computer and after that our keys to the room and the back door would not work anymore and we had to have the maids let us into the room even though it was before the agreed upon check out time. My wife would also have liked the breakfast to be available further into the morning since she doesn't like to eat that early in the morning. #I think breakfast ended at 9:30 AM#

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by jhflwrchld Very Comfortable stay
We had a very nice 2 nights here. The breakfasts were very good. We ordered in great pizza (from Silver-something?) and the manager allowed us to eat it in the breakfast room. Which was great since there were 7 of us.
The pool itself was nice but the pool room was kind of cold. I think they had the AC on in there.
Our rooms were very comfortable & for the most part clean. I have a problem when they do not use the wand and vacuum along the edges--there was a stripe of dust on the floor along the walls.
We would stay here again and would suggest it to our friends.
For a kid friendly hotel, it was pretty quiet.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Granny100 Window left open all day
We left our room in the morning. It was threatening rain so we made sure our window was closed and locked. When we returned six hours later we found our window wide open and the cool wind was blowing in. Of course we had left all of our clothes, laptop, etc. in the room. Someone with a key (housekeeping?) had unlocked and left the window open.
