Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Most uncomfortable bed The bed was so soft that my back suffered. I asked for a quiet room when I reserved the room. The desk clerk said they never got that message and I was put next to an ice machine. The room was clean, but supplies were missing. Toilet paper was very low and no Kleenex. The reps at the front desk were not helpful and gave out wrong information. Overall, not the best experience. September 29, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Clean, Friendly, and comfortable Planned to stay 2 nights but after arrival decided to stay the whole 6 nights of our vacation. Hotel is very centrally located to our day excusions. We found Brenda to be very pleasant and helpfull in planning of daily sightseeing trips. The only improvement I would suggest would be in the scrambled eggs. September 28, 2013

Breakfast typical for HIE but well done. Brenda was especially personable and full of information about local sites. She even told us about a shortcut to Denver! Thanks, Brenda! A short drive to Mt. Rushmore over a good road. Also, excellent access to Custer State Park, Wind Cave NP, and Crazy Horse Monument. September 23, 2013

The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable about the area and local things to do. They are very accommodating to your needs and requests. The place was quiet and comfortable. The breakfast served was fresh and hot and the coffee is excellent. This is my new place to stay when visiting the Black Hills. September 23, 2013

The HI Express in Hill City provided a comfortable room at a reasonable rate. It was clean and had friendly, helpful staff. We appreciated finding several gluten-free items at the breakfast. It was centrally located so that most everything we wanted to go see and do was within a 15-20 minute drive. This hotel was wonderful. It was great to come back to our room after a long day of visiting all the sites, and find our room clean, neat, quiet and comfortable! The breakfast had quite a variety of choices and tasted very good. The customer service was excellent. They were always friendly and helpful, and knew the area quite well, which was a plus when we had questions on where to go. They made us feel right at home. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by beds are too soft for us reserved my room via internet a couple months prior to trip, we ended up not being able to go as early as we hoped, due to work conflicts, so I called 4 days prior to reservation to cancel one of the nights. Was told our first night was cancelled and that we'd ony be charged for the remaining nights. But.. when we checked out we were told that we'd be charged for the night we cancelled because it was a special deal over the internet. I was not told that when I called to cancel, was very disappointed that they wouldn't accomodate our request, especially when they had more than enough time and we also were told when called that it would be taken care of. needless to say they will not get our business again. I work in customer service and their lack of concern was a concern to me. September 6, 2013

The breakfast choices were very good and very tasty and the staff we met was extremely helpful and pleasant especially Brenda. I don't know if we'll ever be back in the area again but if we are, I guarantee we will book there again and will recommend it every chance we get. August 27, 2013

Each one of them were well informed about the surrounding area attractions. The rooms were clean, well stocked with amenities and good thick towels. The breakfast area was well stocked and clean, We stayed 4 nights. I really enjoyed talking to Mary, a really sweet lady, what a treasure she is to this hotel, Thanks for a great stay! This was our first time to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and for some of us a first time in South Dakota. Hill City Holiday Inn Express was centrally located for all of our travels in and around the Sturgis area. The staff at this hotel made our stay so much more enjoyable. Special thanks to Bill, the evening clerk, and to Mary, the hostess in the breakfast room. They really helped to make us feel at home. I personally really hated to leave. I will be sure to stay at this hotel again when in this area of South Dakota. August 26, 2013
