Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Older hotel in process of renovation. Staff out of way to help. COuld have been better but adequate. Hot tub warm and few bubbles. Front clerk unbelievably helpful. Changed out room to be away from highway and when power out when using microwave stuck with it until realized needed new power strip. Breakfast okay. Little below usual Holiday Express standards. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable place near Petrified Forest Comfortable and easily accessible location to nearby Petrified Forest/Painted Desert Park. The room and hotel were clean and staff was friendly. March 25, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Most expensive and least updated/amenities This was the 4th Holiday Inn Express to stay in on this road trip. The other 3 were excellent, but Holbrook's was very disappointing and more expensive then all of the other 3. This looks to be a very poorly remodelled hotel from another value chain hotel brand. No priority club recognition for us. I saw the desk clerk give the gentlemen checking in before us a bag with a water in it but, nothing was offered to us, not even a thank you. The vending machines didn't even sell water. When I asked about water, I was pointed to a caraf with cups by it. The carpets and furniture were dirty and stained. The lobby decor is gawdy. The walls and doors were all filthy. The towels were not clean. The shower and toilet area was very small and poorly remodelled. i.e paint was splattered everywhere and the curtain rod was screwed into the wall so tight it dug into the sheet rock.. Our key cards did not work and when we went back to the desk, no one was there. We could not wait to get out of there. March 22, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Room Had a mini-suite. Great space. Very comfortable; nice pillows. Breakfast fresh and good flavor. Good location for Painted Desert and Pterified Forest. Only negative was lack of good restaurants in surrounding area. February 28, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Why the bad reviews?? We stay here every year. When making our reservation this year, I read the recent reviews that had been submitted. I was really a bit apprehensive that the hotel had possibly gone downhill since our last stay, based on what I read. To our relief, we found it to be quite nice. Our room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good and the staff was quite friendly!! I'm not sure what was going on in January (if I remember, that's when several bad reviews were written), but we were happy with our stay!! February 27, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Best in area Although this property is past it's prime and in need of an update it serviced us well for a short nights stay. Noise level was high but we were up early so those that made noise late probably got up when we started our showers. No water, goodies, or recognition for being a platnum priority club member. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Hot Tub broke swimming pool cold carpeting old and dirty Had a good experience in Ft Wayne IN with Holiday Inn Express and was very disappointed with this Holiday Inn Express January 18, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Dirty Shower For a brand that prides itself on its shower heads...this hotel may want to clean them. Mine was Turing green with all the build up Staff was very friendly though. Place needs a fitness center January 17, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Isolated area Hotel was in a very isolated area. The gentleman who checked me in spoke so fast I caught maybe half of what he said. The room's comfy chair and ottoman were very dirty. Lots of spots on it and food underneath it. Toliet was stopped up. January 16, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Last time I will stay there! This Holiday Inn Express does not meet the normal standard that I expect when checking in to this national brand chain! The hallway carpets are very dirty and worn. The furniture in my room was worn and not clean... stained. The white sheets on the bed were gray not white! Not acceptable! January 16, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Average quality Holiday Inn Express Facilities and food of good quality, staff is friendly and helpful. I have two concerns: The design of the hotel with no elevator and the bizarrely long upper hall with no midway stairs or fire escape seems problematical to me. Also the exterior entry driveway to the motel is insufficiently illuminated. January 15, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by No elevator Only problem was no elevator. Had to lug our luggage up stairs to second floor. January 15, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by staff and service, condition of hotel We probably won't stay at this hotel next year on our way to Phoenix. When we arrived, the man behind the desk didn't welcome us, didn't look at us, and as a priority club member, didn't offer us bottled water or snacks. He DID have our room keys ready, but when we went to our room, the keys didn't work, and I had to go back to the front desk. Although clean, the hotel definitely shows wear and tear. It hasn't been updated recently. Our room was clean, however when I showered, there was no not water. The breakfast offerings were very good, however, we felt like we were "in the way" of the servers. January 9, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great place to stay my wife and I were made to feel welcome by the friendly staff. excellent room ,clean and roomy. the staff was very friendly and helpfull. we would recomend this hotel to everyone. January 6, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable stay and excellent staff My husband and I stayed at this hotel going to and returning from our holiday escape. This is a clean hotel, great breakfast, laundry facilities convenient but most of all an excellent staff. The male front desk clerk, I believe Vincent (?) was swamped with people awaiting check-in and kept his cool thru phone call interruptions and numerous check-ins. My husband had "lost" his hearing aids on our trip down and thought it was in "Holbrook". After notifying the hotel, we discovered they had found and retained them for us! This was such a relief for this necessary and expensive item. January 5, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by A little different I stay in Holiday Inn Express' whenever I travel. They are usually reliable and consistent in their quality. This one was an exception. It wasn't the worst by any means, but it was fairly run down appearing in the hallways. The room itself was OK. The main drawback was that it didn't have an elevator. I thought that was quite unusual for a HI Express. I don't mind taking the stairs, either, but it is hard to carry multiple pieces of heavy luggage up the stairs. The poor guy at the desk was super overworked, being the only one answering the phone and checking in the guests. I waited in line for 30 min until he was able to help me. He was pleasant once I was helped but all of us in line were feeling a little irritated. I also felt the hotel was a little pricey for the location. I stayed in a HI Express the night before for and paid $40 more for the this room in a similar type small town not near any big attractions. I am a huge HI Express fan but was a little disappointed with this stay. January 4, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by furniture and interior of the room was very good I have spent the night in this location several times in the past and it has always been a very good experience with everyone involved. January 2, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by AWESOME STAFF AWESOME STAFF WILL CAUSE ME TO COME BACK---not the property November 26, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Loved the pool and jacuzzi Couldn't wait to relax in pool and jacuzzi after a 12 hour drive, and it felt great. Staff was very accommodating during my checkin. The breakfast had a good variety. November 23, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by total experience We have stayed at this location before and were very happy with it. The location, and hotel itself, is more than comfortable. The breakfast was very good with more than enough food. We will be sure to stay there again on our next trip. November 19, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Called because we left a jacket We left a jacket and did not notice it was left behind until we stopped in Tucamcari Holiday Express. When we called they had our jacket and would send it back. My mother was so happy as this was a favorite one. We highly recommend Holiday Inn Express-Holbrook! Superb staff!! November 19, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by HIE-Holbrook, AZ May want to avoid this one. On a just completed trip from Arkansas to Nevada and back my wife and I continued our practice of planning driving stops around the availability of Holiday Inn Express properties for our overnight stays. We have always been impressed with a level of quality of the properties that was consistant from one to the next. We grew to expect this consistancy. Our stay at the facility in Holbrook, AZ surprised us. Checking in gave us no clue as to what was waiting for us as the lobby, while small was clean, had a very nicely appointed seating area off the lobby and a smaller but adequate breakfast area. Starting with the fact that there was no elevator to the upper floors it became evident that we were staying in a former cut rate motel now serving as a Holiday Inn Express. From the 2' x 4' ceiling tiles and grids down the hall ways, the worn carpeting, and the almost literaly postage stamp size bathroom #containing only a toilet and tub/shower in maybe a 5' x 6' area# the guest area screamed cheap, and did so loudly. Unfortunately, this Express property carried the hghest per night charge, over 4 other stays on this trip at other HIE properties much nicer than what we experienced at Holbrook. If you find yourself traveling on I-44 in NW Arizona pick another HIE to make your stop at, you will save some disappointment. November 16, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excellent hotel, We always try to stay at Holiday Inn Express, they are clean, friendly and well managed. Thank you November 15, 2012
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by A Hotel that needs Improvement This hotel appears to have been remodeled from an earlier building, which accounts for the weird set-up in which the sink is outside the tiny, tiny bathroom. This hotel needs work. The door locks are temperamental, the corridor carpets are filthy, the walls are too thin allowing for noise from other rooms, the front doors of the hotel are manual, not electronic, necessitating a struggle with one's baggage to open the doors. The hotel was one of the most expensive we stayed in on an eight-day journey across the country. It is a poor value. Against all odds this generally disappointing hotel had the best coffee we encountered on our trip. November 5, 2012
