Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Short Stay in Houston I needed to make a quick trip to Houston on business and The Holiday Inn Express, Houston East was recommended by colleagues as a comfortable location that was convenient to the plant I needed to visit. On arrival, I was concerned that the hotel was under renovation but my concerns were unfounded. The accessible common areas were clean and without any evidence of the renovation process. The front desk staff was friendly and efficient; after a long day rushing through airports, dealing with unfamiliar roads and still having to get work done on arrival, a smile goes a long way. My room had not yet been updated so I should have just unplugged the refrigerator. It had an annoying buzz every time it turned on. I was just too tired to get up to unplug it. (I checked - it was due to be replaced in the renovation.) Otherwise, the room was clean, quiet and dark. Good sleeping conditions. Outlets allowed me to get my wrap-up report started and the desk had a good, quirky, desk lamp plus an overhead spotlight. I hope this arrangement survives the remodel. Breakfast was... what can I say? I've stayed in HI Express hotels for extended periods and you can tell what day of the week it is by what's for breakfast. Someone at HI corporate needs some imagination. The quality was reasonable but the hot meal was the same old, same old. Overall, the stay was good. I'll be back the next time I"m in Houston.
