My room was not clean. There were some things on the floor near a light fixture that totally ruined the comfort of the stay. The room looked like it was up to date with the things in the room, but the walls and ceiling were really dated and kind of dirty.

Afternoon (Check in) Services was good. Jessica was very nice. Evening (front desk person) Horrible! Rude, wouldn't fix a problem. Was on hold for a Manager for 10 mins and never talked to one. Told evening front desk person the problem and he could of cared less about it. Said I wasn't going to tell him what to do and that I would have to wait. Went up stairs to our rooms (had 2 king bed rooms) Not only was the bath tub disgusting but the sink was just as disgusting in the other room as well. Maintenance had to clean them. He was supposed to report the problem, Never did. We didn't have anyone contact us afterwards about the problem. Then after lounging around in the room we noticed a huge pile of human hair on the floor. Indicating that no one had bothered to move the furniture around when they swept. Which led to the evening front desk person to be rude to us. The next problem was stained bed sheets (Gross)! Then to top it all off breakfast was sub par. Hard biscuits, little food.

It's hard to say 'typical' because it implies something less than ideal, but the Holiday Inn Express typical is an excellent example of this class of hotel and gives one an expectation of clean, comfortable and convenient stays. And what more could you want?
Front desk people went the extra mile to ensure you were helped with all your needs and deserve congratulations.
My value assessment is based on race weekend rates.
