From the minute we walked in, it was a positive experience. Exceptional front desk greeting, (sure wish I would have gotten her name!) as well as the very, very hard working woman who managed the breakfast. Do not have a single complaint !!!! With the exception of those silly Cleveland Browns handing the Chiefs their victory. Now....if you could just help me get a room in Athens, OH for my son's graduation. Missed the boat and did not book on the magic day when reservations were taken :(

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by cattle9999 Failure to clean bathroom
Our room was good and clean. One bed a little spongier than the other. Was near the ice machine but that noise wasn't too bad. However, each day-- the beds were made, but the towels were not picked up, trash taken away, or toilet paper refilled. Girl at the front desk knew me by face -- when I came down each night to get more towels.
Tiny bit irritated by the lack of parking.

This place is overpriced for the offerings. The burger joint next door is a complete dive and despite their marketing, it certainly doesn't have the best burger in KC! However, it is quite loud when one is trying to relax. The parking lot was packed, and I barely found a parking spot in an adjacent lot not even owned by the hotel. There is no parking to speak of on the street, and foyer and adjacent lounge and breakfast area are anything but spectacular. Ameniable staff member at front desk however.

Top-notch front desk staff - specifically Sophia! The location of Westport is not suited well for traveling professionals. The area is much more of a 'college town' atmosphere. When bars let out, its very noisy on the weekends. Easy to walk to decent restaurants and pubs. Hotel itself is undergoing a facelift. Room was nicely done though, decent size, really great price.

Enjoyed they lay out of the hotel -
enjoyed the atmosphere -
we travel to KC a couple times a year and never stayed at this location - really enjoyed the WestPort Crown Center area - so close to everything and in walking distance...
The staff was very nice and professional.

I don't usually take the time to write a review but wanted to tell you how enjoyable our stay was at this particular hotel. My daughter and I came in for just one night and the staff was remarkably helpful and friendly. I had to call the front desk for an item my daughter had forgotten and the lady helped us out instantly. We came in town to attend a concert and to celebrate her birthday, thank you so much for helping to make our trip pleasant.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 Check in Delay
When we arrived at the hotel, the desk clerk was no where to be found. We called the hotel number and it continued to ring.
We waited at least 15 minutes. Another customer was there also, coming earlier, and finally gave up. Since we needed a room key we started looking around the hotel and found the clerk outside visiting w/ others, totally not minding her station. This occurred around 730PM 10/1/13.
Worst reception we have received in over 40 years of travel.

The only negative I have is we requested handicap accommodations and some how that did not happen. The desk clerk did the best she could and was very kind so while the room did not really accommodate a wheelchair, it did have grab bars in the bathroom. Parking was a bit short but again the wonderful front desk staff went above and beyond to help with the problem and we were able to park next to the hotel each time. I would stay here again.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Patrinda Good for the price
FREE parking. Decent price for the room. Fitness room allows a quality workout. The hotel is located a block from a Westport (Kansas City's original entertainment district/ oldest established community in Kansas City) which has a group of quaint shops and restaurant. Wish the hotel would promote it more. It is a very nice area and made the stay a bit more worth it.
Location should not be named Plaza. It can be confused with the Country Club Plaza Holiday Inn location and the name of the area is Westport not Westport Plaza. The hotel itself is a little rough and the personnel is friendly but less than polish (with the exception of the young lady with the african or island accent). Internet access was VERY spotty.
It works. You can save a couple of dollars. Get a little history of the city and get a decent night sleep.

I'm not a native to this region of the country, but I've made a couple trips out Kansas City way. This was my first stay in this hotel and it was quite nice. The people were the best and the room very comfortable. I travel some for my job and it is always nice to find a gem like the KC Westport Plaza for my stopovers!

During our recent extended vacation to visit my family my wife and I stayed in this property three separate times. Two nights each the first two visits and for five nights our last visit. This hotel in the heart of Westport has everything you need. Free and good breakfast. Very short walk to at least 6 great bars and restaurants, secure parking, near main streets for east access to either Kansas or Missouri. Short cab ride to area car rental and only a five dollar cab to the Plaza. By the start of our third stay it felt like we were part of the hotel family. We were given a fridge and microwave for free during our five day stay and every evening there were cookies on the check in counter for our late night snack. Stay here and you can really enjoy Westport and all it has to offer. There is even a great World Mart store right next to the hotel. Sophia at the front desk is a peach.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by hadagoodtimeinwestport1 Decent hotel in a great location
A very short walk from the Westport entertainment district, this is a nice place to crash after a night of...entertainment! The bar next door isn't bad, and has good food. Less than a block away are all the bars and restaurants you could ask for. The hotel staff was very friendly, and the room was comfortable. Some people complain about the noise, but if you're staying in Westport on the weekend that should be expected - come on people, get real. The breakfast wasn't bad, and had eggs, tasty biscuits and gravy, sausage links, and fresh pancakes and cinnamon rolls. Also, the parking - as others have mentioned, could be frustrating. The hotel shares a lot with the bar next door, as well as an apartment complex to the west. Once again, you're in the heart of Westport, and this should be expected. If your plan is to get there early, park, and not drive again (what I did), you won't have a problem. Considering the hotel a block away is charging double, I found this place to be quite the value. I'll definitely return - this place is my new go-to for a Westport get away.

We came to Kansas City to go to a friends wedding. They had selected a extremely expensive hotel. I was on the hunt for a cheaper hotel that we could stay at and this place fit the bill. The Location is really nice plenty of restraunts within walking distance. It was fantastic. We really enjoyed our stay and would suggest others to stay there.

Hot and Cold water in bathroom were reversed
Consistent Roar in bathroom
Production style Ear Plugs (orange) were offered on the bathroom vanity with soap, lotion etc. Never seen this before, guess it was for the roar, didn't use them just shut the door.

I even pulled back the sheets to see the brand of the mattress. When I first laid down, thought it was a bit hard, but not so. Very comfortable indeed. Our room was great and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised after some of the negative reviews. No noise... no problems. Great hotel. Clean and the breakfast buffet was continuously restocked even though it was very busy. Friendly staff. I highly recommend. to anyone.

This property is in the heart of Happening Westport area of Kansas City! Shares a parking lot with the Westport Flea Market Bar and Grill which touts the best burger in Kansas City, and it is!
With all the great clubs, cafes, shops, and activity, we were all pleasantly surprised at how peaceful and serene our room was. Beds extremely comfortable, Room very clean.
The front desk staff was amazing at all times; answering any questions we had, offering tips and advice to first timers to Kansas City.
Overall.. a wonderful stay. The great thing was we could walk to everything we wanted or needed... our trip to the area was to attend exhibit at the art museum.
Thanks HI Express for always being my go-to home away from home.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Mtp70 On the verge of greatness but full of excuses.
I have stayed at this property starting about 4 months ago. I chose to come back two times after because the hotel seemed to be in a state of flux due to updating the property.
This las visit was nothing but the same and the construction seems to be completed. (Not sure because the hall walls in elevator areas on every floor look incomplete.
One elevator has not worked for 3 months.. Making for very long waits to get to rooms.
The thing that worries me most is that all three rooms I stayed in were very damp and humid. I have brought this up every time and all personal look at me like a deer in the headlights. There is no way they could be checking these rooms and not be aware of this.
It cannot be healthy and please just own the problem. I won't stay again as the lack of response and excuses have been frustrating. Not I what I expect from the Holiday Inn properties

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Chiefdtm Older hotel in a not so good area of Kansas City
This Holiday Inn Express is an older hotel that is clean but not in the best area of town. If you are looking for a inexpensive place to stay near downtown Kansas City this may be a good choice. As long as you know the area around the hotel is not the nicest area and the hotel shares the parking lot with a bar and is not well lit. I did not have any problems and do not consider the parking lot/surounding area to be unsafe but I am sure other may.

We booked a same-day reservation due to a death in the family. We arrived quite late in the evening, but everything was ready at the desk. The friendly clerk offered to help us map out our morning destination and showed us a convenient place to park. The room was quiet and clean. A small inconvenience was that, at first, the tub plug did not work right for my bath, but did work out after a little bit of effort. We slept great; beds are amazing.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Christy35 HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!
From the minute we walked into the hotel we received RUDE service from the front desk clerk! I was NOT recognized for being a IHG Rewards Club Member.
The front lobby was extremely small, hot and obviously no air conditioning was running. After we finally got checked into our room then one of the elevators (only 2) was out of service, so we had to wait an average of 5-8 mins to get a ride. Our room was not as pictured on the webiste at all! It was completely out of date...flat pillows and thin comforter. There was NO pool for the kids to go swim. We had went to a concert only to return to the hotel around 11:30pm to find NO parking spots due to the parking for the hotel is shared with a bar parking lot!!! So we had to park on a back gravel lot, with NO parking lot lights, which was scary coming in alone with 3 kids to a dark parking lot. To top everything off, we went down for the breakfast the next morning and it was so bad that the cereal was even stale so my kids couldn't eat it.
I would NOT recommend this hotel to ANYONE!! And we will not be returning!!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Cardsfan11 Great Service by desk clerks.
Upon arrival, was greeted very quickly by the front desk clerk, very courteous and polite. After checking in and entering the room, it was nice to get a room that had plenty of space. Not sure if all rooms are as spacious as this one was or if it was just because of the location in the hotel, but the extra space was very nice. Overall experience was very good. Room and beds were very comfortable and clean. Those were the pros.
Now for the cons. Parking was sometimes difficult due to the fact that the hotel shares the same lot with a restaurant/bar. Our room was on the 4th floor and late at night outside noise was easily heard although it didn't keep us awake at all.
I would stay at this property again and would recommend to anyone wanting to stay there.

Greeted by nice staff with plate of cookies for the kiddos, and bottled water due my elite status which I love getting. However, the breakfast consisted of general stuff with little option for food allergies. That was a little disappointing. Also, no pool which bummed the kiddos out. Otherwise the stay was good, but nothing over the top.

This Holiday Inn Express ranks right up there with the other Holiday Inn's. A good value for the price plus a very good breakfast. Parking is a little tight at this one but that problem is being taken care of with a remodel of the parking lot. The front desk staff, was just great. Gave excellent directions on things we wanted to do, plus she makes great chocolate chip cookies

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Bohunk Good Hotel for Young Adults
We stayed at the hotel because we were attending a concert in the area and they were running a special for the weekend. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. We did have an area on the carpet by the door that was wet and the humidity in the room was terrible. The hotel needs to be renovated. One of the 2 elevators were not in service and the hotel was full so we took the stairs most of the time. The breakfast was good but we were disappointed they only had one meat option and the pancake machine was not working.
The Holiday Inn Express' we've stayed at in the past have been a lot nicer than this one. If we had to pay full price, we would not stay at this hotel. The next time we're in town, we'll stay someplace else.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Lizzy23 Pretty good!
I stayed at the HIE Westport for one night when we were in town with friends. The location is good because we could walk to different bars and restaurants. The hotel itself isn't too bad. Not the nicest I have stated in before but far from the worst. Check in was quick. The lobby looked like it had recently been somewhat updated as had the hallways on the other floors. Our room was a bit dated but not too bad. Air conditioner was quiet and worked well to cool the room on a 95 degree day. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. Bathroom was a bit on the smaller side and could use more light in the shower area. Flat screen TV in the room which wasn't reflected on the pictures that are online, so I was pleasantly surprised. When I needed new batteries for the remote or more towels, they were really quick bringing them to the room. Impressive service. I would recommend this hotel if someone needs a good value and decent place to stay while in KC.
