I have stayed at this location numerous time and always pleasant check ins. Most o the staff know me by name or so I feel. I have one question if check out is by 11am why should I get a knock on the door at 9:55 to housekeeping? BTW the do not disturb sign was on the door. I understand that not everyone wants to work until 10pm but.......

We have stayed here several times and we always have a positive visit. It has gotten much quieter and the staff is always ready to accommodate. They even baked cookies special for us because they had run out and we were looking forward to them.

Our family recently stayed at this HI Express for a family funeral in the Kilmarnock/Irvington area. The HIE Staff and Customer service was exceptional and we received a discounted room rate through the Currie Funeral Home and HI Express. Their understanding of our situation was well beyond all expectations. They allowed our family the use of the breakfast room for an informal family reception during the evening hours. We owe them a tremendous amount of gratitued and thanks! We have stayed there before and it was the same type service--excellent. We will stay there again!

Everything about our stay was fine, except for the noise level in room 118. Most of the night, I thought we had a neighbor with the TV too loud. When I finally got up to investigate at 2am, I discovered we were sharing a wall with the breakfast room and that a TV was hanging on the shared wall. The sound from that TV echoed into our room, keeping our family of four from sleeping.
The next night, there was a group of people "hanging out" in the breakfast room. We ended up having to ask them to be quiet so we could sleep. They did so, but by the early morning the TV was back on.
Moving the TV or installing speakers to divert the sound might help with this problem.

Rooms are great with comfortable beds, very nice bathroo, and great TV line up. However, the walls are too thin and you can hear your neighbor sometimes.

This hotel continues to be VERY tired!!! The halls and rooms really need to be remodeled!!!!! However, the staff was super!!!!!! They are so nice, knowledgeable and accommodating!!!

I had requested adjoining rooms, and although this couldn't be guaranteed at the time of reservation, the front desk staff went out of their way to make sure our rooms adjoined upon arrival. They also made recommendations for where to eat dinner, and gave us a printed sheet with the restaurants open that evening and the addresses. Check-in and check-out was quick and painless. Good job! I do wish they had a gym, but I understand this is "Express", and a nearby gym is available for guests (but was not open the evening I was there).

I am a very easily contented person; however, I feel that I would do an injustice in not letting people know that this hotel is not living up to the usual standards and quality expected from a Holiday Inn Express. The construction of the building appears to lack sound insulation. Noises from the adjacent rooms were very apparent. In addition, noises from upstairs were loud and rumbly.
The sheets were pitted and scratchy. They were in obvious need of replacement.
I was pleased with the landscaping, the decorations in the lobby and the friendliness of the staff. Also, the breakfast bar was plentiful, clean and spacious. There was a decent variety of breakfast items.
Check-in and check-out was performed quick and the staff was knowledgeable and courteous.

I travel extensively due to work related activities and I stay at IHG hotels frequently, inclucing Holiday Inn Expresses... The one in Kilmarnock is "ok", but it is an older facility... it does lack some of the other positive amenities that more modern facilities seem to have... And, perhaps because it is located in a small town, sometimes the staff are a bit "backwards" compared to many others that I encounter in my travels... But, it is one of the few hotels located in the Kilmarnock area, so there you go!

First, the pros:
- The staff. Everyone I dealt with directly was courteous and helpful, and earned this hotel an extra star.
Now, the cons:
- The bottom of the rolling desk chair was absolutely CAKED with dust. When I attempted to sit on it, the back of the chair fell off.
- Something in the room (possibly the fridge) was making a constant, rapid ticking noise the entire time.
- The walls were paper thin- I was woken up multiple times by the alarm clock (and snooze...) of the people in the next room.
- Virtually none of the TV channels worked- the ones that did work seemed to change from hour to hour.
- The real kicker, though, was that our first-floor room had NO PRIVACY CURTAIN. We jerry-rigged one with a luggage strap and the decorative, but non-functional, curtains that framed the window.
The sad thing is, I will probably end up staying here again, as there aren't a ton of options, and the location is convenient. Maybe next time will be better.

Room rates higher than other comparable HIE locations (at least for the night that I stayed). No fitness room on site. They have access to the local YMCA but it's too far from the hotel. Several times I had people trying to call me in my room but couldn't get through because the front desk staff were not available to answer the phone.

Hotel Holiday Inn Express, Kilmarnock, VA.
Clean Room, good breakfast, good room rate and good value. Excellent air conditioning in room. Need electrical outlets near bed for electronics (e.g., phone, laptops, I-pads, etc.) or at least on the desk. Room had two burned out light bulbs. I would stay there again.

First room had wet carpet and damp floor. Drawer had clothes left in. We were given a second room. Second room had a musty smell and a dead bug in the middle of the bathroom floor. Breakfast was great both days. Service desk was very courteous.

There is no accessible place to charge phones, tablets, cameras, or computers. The accessible outlets are used for lamps & fridge, or outlets inaccessible such as behind the furniture. Had to use the bathroom outlets & rotate charging of devices.
The list of TV channels has no instructions on how to change channels & confusing as to which column to use. The cable system channels are different from what one is used to. Had to call the front desk for instructions.
In the morning in the hallway, by the breakfast dining area, housekeeping would line up the 4 carts, using up half the the hallway space, the staff going back and forth between supply room and the carts, so one had to walk around them. Also the carts emitted a dusty vacuum cleaner bag smell. Housekeeping needs to clean the vacuums, stock the carts at the end of their shift, so in the morning they can grab their cart and go, instead of clogging up the hallway to access the dining room during breakfast time.

We were at this hotel last week with a wedding party and everything was fantastic. Our room was nice and very clean and the staff could not have been more helpful. They really went out of their way for us. I would never have guessed how nice it would be for the price and in such a small town!

If you are staying in Northern Neck, especially for just a night, this is a very good place to look at.
Very close to several different places to eat, sights to see.
While it doesn't have the quantness of some of the B&B, it also has the consistency of a HI Express. Good breakfast, included, that could have some more fruit/healthier choices added. However, there was plenty of food to chose from, and it was kept relatively stocked throughout breakfast.
Quick check-in, plesent staff, clean room, nice and quiet.
Will consider it again whenwe go back.

I wish I could bottle these people up and take them with me!! Hotel is in a great location for food and shopping and visiting our family. Breakfast was a bonus and the room was very clean.

I made reservations for many family members for the funeral on Tuesday. This was an extremely difficult time for everyone and 4 of the 8 families made reservations on their own at this same hotel so I canceled the reservations that I made for them in my name. The hotel still charged us for the rooms even though the hotel was not full. They did not lose any opportunity to rent the rooms because they had other rooms available therefore they should have refunded my money. Also, members of my family did stay here, they just didn’t use my reservation. Essentially the hotel doubled their profits at the expense of our grieving family.

The people were very nice and helpful. We had to switch rooms because the air conditioner froze and stopped working. The pool hours were disappointing. The pool closed at 9 PM. If you are getting back from a day of touring vineyards, it might be nice to hop in the pool. I was getting ready to head to the pool at 8:59 when I checked the hours and it was closed.
Breakfast was good. I enjoyed the cinnamon rolls even though they came from a package. I noticed they were stored on a shelf in the back room, but maybe they had just been delivered that day. The pancake making machine is a great feature. It appears to be much faster than the waffle makers other chains use, but the guy in front of me had to have his 4 pancakes and I didn't have time to wait. My husband said they were good pancakes.
When you update, consider putting in a hot tub. You are the only chain hotel in the area, but that should not hold you back from making improvements.

We had a burned out bulb and slow drain in the tub for two days before finally saying something to the staff. You would think they clean it every day and notice things like that. The day they snaked the tub they left all of the debris in the tub for my wife to clean and didn't service the room at all. The dining room had a leak and dripped water several nights in a row. The breakfast had very limited fresh fruit options and the bananas were old. The price of the room went up 30% for the weekend nights and the fruit got worse. As a priority member I was greeted with a small water bottle and choice of a candy bar from a basket, less than impressive. It wasn't all bad though, the staff was very friendly and even offered an additional candy bar when all of the fresh cookies were gone quick. Breakfast was good other than limited fruit with many options. The room was nice other than the bulb and slow drain. A free entrance to the YMCA was offered for the lack of an exercise room, but an exercise room would have been better.

When I made my reservation online, I thought I was booking a smoking room, with 2 double beds. There was no mention this hotel was "non smoking". When I arrived, I was informed entire hotel was no smoking. Also the room I was given, had a king bed, and kitchenette. The room was nice, but don't expect to get what you book online. The smoking area was outside, in front of the hotel, and it hadn't been cleaned/picked up in a good while. Our bed was comfortable, and breakfast was pretty standard. Cinnamon rolls were good. Receptionist were polite and friendly.

The entire motel smells stale, our room smelled as though it was a smoking room recently converted to a nonsmoking room. The grout in the bathroom was dirty and the furniture worn. Several items were missing from the breakfast buffet 45 minutes before it closed. It is a nice basic structure in a quiet location but it sure needs to be updated.

We were very disappointed with our two day stay. We were upgraded to a suite and found that the air conditioner did not work. Moved to another suite which had a hole in the wall behind the door. The pool was not maintained and dirty. The hotel is in desperate need of a good cleaning and updating. The staff were Polite and accomodating but the overall appearence of the hotel was below every other IHG hotel that we have stayed in.
