Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Less than Memorable When we checked in at 2am the first night, we were charged the whole rate, even though I am a rewards member and we were staying for the next 3 days. We went to the room after an 11 hour drive and the TV didnt work. Not wanting to cause a fuss early in the morning, I didnt go out front. I told the front people when we went to breakfast in the lobby and they said they would have someone fix it when we left. I notified them when we left and they said someone would be right in. When we got back to the room at 10pm, the tv still didnt work. The lady at the desk was less than helpful. She did call the maintenance guy who came over. He was nice, and did fix it after about 45 minutes. I told the lady at the front that we should have been refunded for two nights since we didnt have a TV. She said she didnt have the ability to do that, but i could talk to the manager. I asked if she could make a request for me and she said she couldnt. Not wanting to spend any more time on our short vacation talking to people at the hotel, I didnt try to run down a manager. We go to OBX a lot, and many times spur of the moment. Being a Holiday Inn member, a good stay would have meant a decent amount of possible future business. We will not be so inclined to do so at this point. April 13, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by beach person 2nd time at this hotel. Best breakfast bar at any hotel. However, maintenance guy three parking spaces by the back door was smoking as he was washing sand off the sidewalk with the house. He was asking where I was from, did I drive through much rain, as he was smoking and I was trying to pack the vehicle to drive back three hours. I told him I didn't smoke and I don't think he appreciated that. My wife didn't appreciate walking past smokers at the door, holding open the door with a brochure, as we were trying to leave. She has asthma, by the way. Thanks for all this. You've lost a customer. Also, as a previous guest mentioned, clear white curtains, thick ones we could only close on them by clipping some hangers onto them. Thanks for a great wedding anniversary. And the clerk that checked us in was rude over the phone when I called to request a beach view, which we got the last time we stayed, on the second floor. Also, sign at the ice machine says "ice/games." No games here. Thanks. Oh, and when we checked into the room when we came back around 3:30 because it wasn't ready around 2,, we found somebody else's frozen soda in the freezer. Gross. Oh, and the exhaust fan in the bathroom squealed really bad. You should have a separate switch to cut off the exhaust fan and still have the light on. April 13, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Expensive Bedroom for a Vacation I wanted to make a quick Easter Vacation for my Family, and when decided to pick a Hotel, I would have never second guessed staying at a Holiday Inn Express. After arriving in the evening, and checking in, I found the front night staff rude and unpleasent. Then arriving to my room I was very surprised this was the Hotel I paid for. The hallways seemed to go up and down, unlevel, the room was very "old" looking. I spent less money in many other Hotels, and received a better value in my room. The Bathroom was TINY, and the only thing good was the shower head pressure. The breakfast staff was very freindly, and very fast at revolving the food as it dwindled down. I made sure to thank them, and they were very appreciative. My family and I made it a point to be out of the Hotel as long as we could, because there wasn't anything appealing at the Hotel we wanted. Again the dollars I spent for two days was very expensive to just lay my head down and sleep. My son couldn't even find a good channel to watch Cartoons in the morning. Very unsatisfied indeed! Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Comfy Pillows but Where are the Blindfolds? This was a mini-vacation during the off-season, and was looking forward to enjoying some unexpectedly great weather. Was disappointed not to have any outdoor area to sit and enjoy the weather. Was hoping the rooms had a small patio - maybe just big enough to fit a couple of chairs to enjoy a cup of morning coffee in the sun. The curtains in the room didn't even cover the entire window, so that eliminated napping during the day or just a bit of privacy. Would have preferred that measure of security and privacy. Hotel staff were friendly and extremely professional, yet was hoping to be able to combine former Priority Club points into the IHG system. No such luck. Used the hotel's lobby computer to try to accomplish this, but the internet connection was so slow, I gave up after several tries. April 9, 2015

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Mother-daughter getaway I've already mentioned my pleasure with staff concerns for us. I would mention a key problem we had which required walking back down to the reception area to correct. Not sure what the problem was--one key worked only the outside door but not the hotel room door. The other worked on the hotel room door but not the outside door, apparently. The reception clerk apologized and corrected it. One suggestion having to do with the breakfast serving area--pancake-making was in the middle of the line along with toasters for the bagels and bread. How nice it would be to arrange the foods that could just be picked up and taken, apart from the foods that required a wait. That would make for a much smoother traffic flow. And coffee refills needed to be easily attainable--not causing a traffic jam. I also think a menu board of what is available would also be useful. I.e., There were hard-boiled eggs available that we didn't discover until we'd already eaten. And the second day there was no yogurt available. That disappointed me. March 26, 2015
