Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ChrisM62 Excellent for central position in Leeds
We returned for a second stay three years after our last to bring three (13 year old) girls to a weekend competition. Still excellent value (Late Rooms booking) and great service from the staff who seem to be up late at night and still there serving breakfast with a smile on their face the next morning! Rang before to request rooms with internal doors which we had before and were changed to those with no problem. Girls really like having these! Great setting for a city hotel, close to motorway so no getting lost (due to Armouries signage), no major roads next to hotel and plenty of room to sit or run around outside. Also canal and surroundings well kept up and interesting.
Make sure you have a free visit to The Armouries museum a few strides across the plaza from the hotel. Didn't go last time but were really impressed when we popped in this weekend. Great that at 8.30 at night we were able to walk along canal 10 minutes off road and straight into Leeds town centre to find food. Also very useful Pizza Express next door to hotel and Tesco express down the road!
Breakfast plentiful and pleasant - busy at times but no one hurried. Rooms comfortable. If you can book at a good price early on then well recommended.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 Small room and disappointing breakfast
Small room, despite classification as a family room - sofa bed not made up on arrival for my daughter and poor/ limited choice of buffet available compared to similar offering from competitors and other Holiday Inn resorts. Noisy neighbours on a Friday night especially from corridors. Staff attentive and helpful.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by owlsfan1 Convenient location for the Buy Yorkshire conference
Excellent facilities 30 yards away from the Armouries exhibition and conference halls.
An excellent room that has everything we need for an overnight stay.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Carlo71 Comfortable and pleasant staff
This was our first stay at this Holiday Inn Express. The welcome was warm and helpful. Indeed all of the staff were great. The beds were very comfortable - the only problem with the room was that there was only one chair (this seems to be true for all of the HI Express). The location is ideal for the Royal Armouries but apart from this the whole area seems sterile. As far as we could see there are only two places to eat, one a Pizza Express and the other an alcohol-free Indian restaurant.
However, we will stay there again but will try to find out about other restaurants in the city.

Everything about this hotel is average. I mean don't get me wrong, it's a nice hotel, a nice location and you get all the basics, but that's it, just the basics. I stayed in a double room with a friend so we got two cups, two tea bags and two cartons of milk, obviously they don't realise some people drink more than one cup of tea a day! Everything in the room was the bare minimum for two people and if you wanted more you had to venture down to reception and face the inquisition from the staff who demanded to know why you wanted more milk. I also must have missed the memo about hotels no longer providing complimentary biscuits and little bottles of shampoo.
The first nights sleep was lovely, so lovely in fact that we slept through breakfast so the next day we were determined to make it down in time! There was no queue which we were pleased about but a distinct lack of choice, we were one of the first people down so we saw the full range of options. It's advertised as a "hot breakfast" which is fair enough, there were hot items, but that only consisted of beans, sausage and toast.
The second nights sleep wasn't as peaceful as the first, the room next to us played music from the moment they got in until we got up for breakfast, while screaming and stomping up and down the hallway, I realise this isn't the hotels fault but surely someone must have complained.
One day then room service came to clean while we were out, we got back and realised we didn't have any towels and had to wait for someone to bring us some.
But even with the milk hunt, the noise, the lack of breakfast choices, the shower that flooded the bathroom, the loose tile in the bathroom and the lack of towels then the entire stay was made worthwhile by the lovely woman on reception when we checked out, she was so cheery and happy that I couldn't stay annoyed anymore.

I've stayed here before and it's starting to look a little tired. Peeling paint on the ceiling, a toilet that didn't flush properly, and broken lightbulb in the bathroom were just some of the problems. It can also get a bit noisy at the weekend. Overpriced for what it is.

If you are going to visit the armouries then this is the hotel for you. The hotel is situated just opposite from the attraction. Something for everyone in the breakfast buffet. The sofa bed in our room was the worst we have ever encountered. You could feel the metal where it folded out. We reported it to reception who said they would look into it. We didn't hear anything back so we cannot say if they did or if they did not. All we can say is it felt no better on the second night and thankfully we were only booked in for two nights!
