Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by We've already booked another stay! We had been happy with a Holiday Inn Express hotel in June, so decided to make this our brand for a trip involving 3 destinations. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable, the breakfast filling, and the room comfortable and very clean. We have already booked rooms at the Lexington hotel for another visit soon. August 17, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Big Changes in a Year Stayed at this hotel 1 year ago and was pleased with it. This time, the staff was not friendly, the food was lower quality, the bed was not made properly, the hot water was warm and not hot in the am, the amount of towels, etc for 3 people was not sufficient, the a/c was controlled by the property which made for a hot room when you returned. Overall, very dissatisfied and would not stay there again. Beware if you stay here. They have an a/c motion sensor in the room which turns up the a/c when you leave so expect to come back to a hot room. Also, beware that they turn off the hot water at night so anyone showering in the am will find their water is lukewarm and not hot. I can understand not wanting to waste resources but....they clearly have gone too far and I would not have stayed at this hotel had I known I would not have access to a/c and hot water upon demand. Stay here only if controlling the temperature in your room and controlling the temperature in the shower are not important to you. I haven't even touched on the poor quality of the food, the lack of friendliness from the staff, the lack of towels and toiletries and the hotel maid's inability to properly make a bed. And don't even get me started on the lack of a pool but paying the same price as a hotel with a pool. Overall, very disappointing. August 17, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Okay hotel but . . . Room was clean although surfaces could have been wiped down to clear previous occupants. Bed was comfortable. This is the problem I have with these types of hotels - they put you in a box and then don't soundproof the walls. I've traveled to over 30 states and stayed in many hotels. These are small rooms so you do hear the television on either side of you. That is a deal breaker. Also, in rooms this small, the A/C blows continuously on the person closest to the window. I only stayed one night so bearable. I wished I could have slept longer but it's impossible once others are up and about around you. August 17, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very Enjoyable My son and I were visiting the Virginia Military Institute and chose to stay at the Holiday Inn Express. This is a very clean and comfortable hotel. A perfect location for seeing Lexington and VMI. Our room was spacious, clean and had all we needed. The only thing I could really say as a con was that the elevator was very slow! We just took the stairs several times. Other than that, I would definitely recommend the HIE of Lexington and would stay there again! August 14, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by OK, not great This was fine, but not particularly comfortable or comforting. When I called to let them know I'd be coming in late (but with an existing reservation), whoever answered the phone seemed genuinely confused about what to do with the info. That's not confidence-inspiring. The room was fine, but the TV didn't work. Well, it turned on and off, but no channels came in. That's annoying. When I travel I like to check the weather and the news. Breakfast options are OK, not great. And nothing says "please make it quick" like paper plates and cheap plastic cutlery. I have stayed at other HIE's before, many times. This one was not on par with those, as a rule. It's too bad, because the Lexington area could use a really decent business-travel lodging option. I called the 800 number and tech did a reset and it lasted about 5 minutes. i don't see how they can advertise high speed internet when it doesn't work. Room was comfortable and clean. August 3, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Where are the amenities I have come to expect more from a Holiday Inn hotel. There was no pool or exercise room. When we asked where they were the receptionist told us to use the pool at the Comfort Inn and the exercise room at Best Western. Really? Is this how Holiday Inn expects this hotel to operate, just use the stuff from the hotels next door? If I wanted to use their amenities, I would have stayed there. Very disappointed. July 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice We arrived late and tired on the first leg of our trip. We were checked in right away and our room was perfect. Enough room for us and our three children. Although we were just staying the night, a pool would be great at this location since we are considering visiting this area again. The room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was great and check out was easy. We will always make HIE our regular hotel. Excellent quality! July 4, 2013

Our very late check-in went smoothly and we were more than happy with our suite. The front desk reception was friendly and efficient. When we had questions about the area the next morning, the people were very helpful. I will recommend this Holiday Inn Express to friends and family who come to visit. June 8, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice rooms and good location My husband plays in a band where he played in Roanoke Friday night. Saturday, we drove from Roanoke to Natural Bridge where we drove through the Safari Zoo and saw a lot of exotic animals. His band was to play in Buena Vista Saturday night so we decided to stay in Lexington for the night. We checked in and the clerk behind the desk was very rude. I asked to use my points and she said I'd have to call the Priority Club Line to make them. I asked if I could use her phone and she said, "you're really demanding a lot", and I just looked at her. She had made the comment she only had 45 minutes before getting off and was really tired so I ignored her rude comment. I made the call and booked the room. She was checking us in and I asked if she could get us on the first floor and she said "you're really pushing your luck". I just looked at her and she said "yes, I can get you on the first floor". She must have realized how rude she was because she then started telling us about a few people that are staying there that are filming at VMI and she broke the ice. The evening clerks were very nice. The next morning, the same clerk that checked us in was there and I asked if I could get a receipt and she said since I used points, they do not give receipts. She did not say "Thanks for staying with us" or anything. We left. This is a very nice Hotel and I'm sure it was just this clerk that did not have front desk personality. June 7, 2013

Breakfast was average again, nothing to write home about. One slow elevator for entire left wing. Probably wouldn't stay at this HIE again. June 6, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Worn chairs and bed. No amenities. Two items that I haven't had problems with before at other Holiday Inn Expresses; 1. The chairs were worn. Padding sunk in as if they had been used a lot and over a long period of time. Same with the beds. The room did not smell clean. 2. No pool or exercise room. I usually enjoy a swim and run when I stay at the Holiday Inns, but this hotel had neither. I had to use another hotel's pool. Very inconvenient. I have stayed in several Holiday Inn Expresses, and this was my first poor experience. I usually feel I get a good experience and stay for the price I pay, but I was disappointed this time. I'll be sure to not stay at this particular one again. June 3, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bring a can of ant killer Only chain I stay with is Holiday Inn/ Suites. VERY disappointed with this one. After driving hours with my wife and 3 month old little girl we stopped here to stay took a quick shower and went straight to bed for an early start. The next morning we noticed ANTS in everything. Had to throw away all of my new one's food and clean out all of our bags. I brought this up at the front desk at check out and they were not the least bit surprised. Only saying " YA We see them time to time but mostly in the summer." Thats it, No sorry. VERY nonchalant. Thinking about posting a video of the ants on utube with the Hotel address. March 11, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Front Desk Personnel Very Nice After the front desk personnel this stay went downhill. Can't imagine why there is but one elevator for this four floor hotel. This problem was exacerbated by the fact (unknown when I booked) the hotel was filled to capacity with VMI Cadets, students, Alumni and friends. Couldn't get ANY place at breakfast. This hotel was DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE ridiculous amount I was charged to stay there. Was most happy to leave as quickly the next morning as possible. November 22, 2012

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Bad for those with allergies! This "pet friendly" location allows pets in all rooms. I'm used to requesting non-smoking rooms; non-pet was new to me, not that it would have helped here. I suggest they limit pet owners to the first floor and leave the others for the non-pet people. I felt like I had slept with a cat, clogging up more and more as the evening progressed. Luckily I had some antihistamines in my suitcase. November 14, 2012

There was plenty to see and stores like Walmart and other conveniences were close and accessible. We were there for a division meeting while a storm came through. Most businesses lost power on our block, but the staying at the hotel, I felt safe and comfortable. My only complaint was the slow, forgetful service at the hotel bar. We did meet a really nice young lady and a young gentleman who was very helpful. Someone took our order, wings, and never came back. 45 minutes later we brought this to another staff's attention and our order was immediately brought out hot and tasty. November 14, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by PERFECT PLACE I've been staying here three-four times a year for the past four years. Debbie and Susan are wonderful at the front desk. Breakfast is fresh and tidy. Rooms are great. Plenty of parking and places to eat in this great historic town. We have brought our dog on several occasions with no issues. As a VMI parent I strongly recommend this hotel to all VMI parents. For those that stay there you'll understand ... we have fun taking photos of the "DUCK". October 27, 2012
