Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Construction site and absolutely no status recognition The good: - I was able to check in and get a room already shortly after 11 AM which was very nice. - The (cold) breakfast buffet was surprisingly good for a HIX hotel and for France. Plenty of variety and good quality items. - Location was fine, in Wazemmes, a very short walk away from Place de la Republique which has a metro station. Walking distance to the Citadelle, Vieux Lille and the newer city centre. The bad: - The hotel was basically a construction site. Work was being carried out on a Saturday also. - Even though there was an air conditioning unit in the room with a control panel it was grossly inadequate for the July temperatures in the 27-30 degree range with thunderstorms and oppressive heat. Sleeping wasn't very easy, even though opening the window helped somewhat (but exposed one to some noise from the outside). - The room wasn't very clean. There was some disgusting white stuff on the TV remote, I hope it wasn't what I think it was... - Absolutely no status recognition - as a Gold member I'm used to at least getting greeted as one, usually with a drinks chit (or an offer for points). Not here. Nothing. Nada. In short it is an okay hotel if you get an affordable rate or can't afford the Crowne Plaza at Lille Europa. Just don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Still under refurbishment The hotel is under refurbishment. Which we didn't know. The lounge was very much being worked on. And because of the works the airconditioning wasn't working. And outside it was almost 30 degrees. The second day the very friendly staff member offered us a fan. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Location for Central Lille Very close to main art gallery and pleasant walk to other central features. Staff very welcoming and efficient. Car Park under hotel and slightly tight if you have a large car or lack confidence. Breakfast acceptable but limited choices. Coffee machines did keep breaking down and do need replacing. Room comfortable with efficient layout. Good Indian restaurant a couple of doors away, "Himalayan" but actually Bangladeshi. Small Carrefour almost next door. Very large shower with room for two if so inclined. only negative was the a/c not working.The garage was very tight for parking ,fortunately half empty during my stay All the staff were very friendly and were able to offer info on the area. The Hotel is in an excellent position for visiting Lille July 14, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Clean and Comfortable . The hotel was well placed for the city centre and Christmas market. The room was, comfortable, warm and very clean despite being slightly tight for space. Staff were very cheerful, helpful and friendly. The underground car park was a great asset and anyone with reasonable driving ability would have no problem negotiating the tight corners and spaces. We had an excellent breakfast and plenty of it and enjoyed the house wine and Biere Noel. The refurbishments taking place look very exciting. December 11, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 Hotel is worst HI Express What a disappointment! the hotel rooms are very very tired. They have started refurbishment but should tell you this when booking. The hotel staff were fine and the manager took my comments on board. I don't think I was the first to complain. On the plus side the position is good and has a secure car park. (very tight). I have always championed HI Express as market leaders and our stay at Folkestone the night before confirmed this. November 27, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 Never again I stay on average between 50 to 70 nights a year at IHG properties worldwide and this hotel has been by far my worse experience and as such would not recommend it to anyone. The rooms were dirty with strange traces on the walls, the smell was everything but pleasant and the hotel itself is a ruin. October 9, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by fair quality / cost ratio - could easily be improved those few remarks have been experiences several times over the last two years in this particular hotel. in the rooms, 3 potential improvements: -more light (rooms are too dark, old CFL bulb technology => takes a while before full power, no ceiling light) -renew the air in the room (add some steps to the cleaning process so as to refresh the room and get rid of unpleasant smells) -in the bathroom, the basin piping aren't clean, resulting in unpleasant smells. in the lobby, 2 potential improvement: -teach the staff the importance of service to customer (could be interesting to give staff training sessions by Holiday Inn or Intercontinental, where my personal experience was of higher satisfaction). -diner is mainly choices between frozen items (pizzas, sandwiches, etc.) and basic dishes (noddles, salad). Could be interesting to build partnership with local restaurants and propose some sort of delivery services in the room (the hotel charging the customer for this service) => would diversify the menu and provide higher quality food. Using points for our stay, my wife and I were greeted by a really friendly and helpful receptionist who had our room allocated and cards ready. She had a great local knowledge and provided excellent further assistance throughout our stay. Thank you! We found our room extremely modern and clean. However, without air conditioning, it may be really warm in the summer months. There was a stomach churning smell coming from the first floor corridor which was likely mould. I trust this is being dealt with. Breakfast was a good quality, 3 star broad assortment. You would certainly find something that suits and not be hungery. The garage was difficult, but not impossible to use, and seemed worth it due to the neighbourhood. There are 2 well know, well-stocked supermarkets merely metres from the hotel. We found every member of staff that we dealt with to be polite and focused on providing good customer service. Well done! If you have/expect high standards, this may not be the best hotel for you. However, for a 1 or 2 night stay, it does the job. September 5, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient Location. Great place for a one night stopover, hotel is located approx 5 minute walk from the main square , with plenty of restaurants to choose from. Hotel reception and Dinning area all nice and looks newly refurbished however our room was a little tired with no air con ( I cooked). Obviously I don't know if all the rooms are the same. Hotel staff very very polite and spoke very good English which always helps. Car park under hotel not bad at 12euros for the night, but the entrance and exit was a tad tight. Overall not bad value for money, and would consider using again. September 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Brilliant Hote With Excellent Staff Service Secure Stopover This is a gem of a hotel with secure parking to protect the car when fully laden prior to getting on the ferry. The staff were really good and looked after our every need nothing was too much for them and they were really friendly and attentive. The rooms are well fitted out but are due to be refurbished. Lille has good shopping and there were loads of restaurants to choose from and different cuisines to amuse the pallets. Good last night in France. August 26, 2013

Rooms are a good size but the bathroom in particular is a little tired.... needs to be redecorated. Good that it has a carpark below the hotel, although it is very tight getting a large car up and down the ramps. The buffet breakfast is excellent, with a very good choice and good quality. Possibly the worst Holiday Inn I have ever stayed in .No air conditioning and the room was so hot we were not able to sleep.No food or bar service because "of the holidays !"No further explanation given ! The only time I have checked out and not been asked if I had enjoyed my stay or had any comments .The front desk staff could benefit from understanding the idea of customer care.There were 3 men on the desk and they showed us no courtesy whatsoever barely looking up to give us the bill. A unforgetably bad experince with the hotel in a rough and dirty area. July 28, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not my best Holiday Inn Express stay Don't stay on Thursday, Friday or Saturday nights if you want a decent night of sleep. Drunk people are shouting in the streets in the middle of the night. It's also quite an old property, compared to other HI Express I've stayed in. The general maintenance could be better also...Location however is convenient near the centre (10 minutes walk) February 28, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Hotel Upon arriving I was aghast exterior of building and doors ugh peeling paint wanted to go elsewhere . Inside the lobby and throughout the hotel it was shabby and downtrodden . The room was no different it needs a complete overall. The breakfast offered tried the orange juice very nasty, the coffee one sip and I threw it away drank some water to cleanse my mouth and left the breakfast area. On the upside the staff were very welcoming, helpful & friendly. This hotel is a disgrace December 17, 2012

Great central location for shopping , eating and drinking , and it would appear to be an area of comedy clubs which are buzzing on a saturday evening. November 13, 2012
