Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 no way this was a really bad hotel. we were told it had been converted from a pub, it was so small, no sign of any staff when we arrived and the doors were locked, the reception area smelled old and damp, we walked away... January 3, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A little surprise tucked away The only problem that we encountered was accessing the hotel using a sat-nav. Confusing at junction of Reeves Corner/Tamworth Road/Cairo New Road traffic lights. You need to take a straight on course along Tamworth Road or you will end up doing a big loop and coming back to the A236 again. Once that is negotiated the rest is easy. Also be aware that on Saturday's, if you arrive before 8pm then you have to take a longer route to their partner car park (Qpark - Surrey Street) at Charles Street. This again can possibly cause problems with a sat-nav. The staff were very friendly, with a warm smile to greet us on a cold, wet and windy evening. They ensured that we were fully informed before we set off to find the Qpark car park. Room was clean with space to work, beds very comfortable, nice tidy bathroom with plenty of space. Location is spot on as there are 2 tram stops (Church Street and George Street) that you can take all the way to Wimbledon, and from there take a connection train or tube into London. They are the example for some of the others who can be a little dour..Beautiful girls and beautiful service. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Shame you couldn't get the room right, even with 3 months notice I booked a double, family room online in September for a 2 night stay in December. On arrival, I was informed that there was only a twin room available. Fortunately, we didn't end up having need of the sofa bed, which was probably just as well, as I have no clue what would have happened if we had turned up with two small children. I was told that we could move rooms for the second night of our stay but when I said I wasn't too happy to have to unpack and repack, the member of staff assisting with me, (duty manager?), suggested that I didn't bother to unpack. As we were staying for a celebratory event, it wasn't practical to leave my evening wear in a bag overnight, so I chose to ignore her advice. All I really wanted was for someone to say 'sorry, we made a mistake' but no form of apology was forthcoming at any stage. Two of the party we were with, who booked the same day as me and checked in with me, (we arrived in the same car), got their double room with no problems but, as they were card-carrying Priority Club members, they obviously got preferential treatment. I am also a Priority Club member but I forgot to take my card with me. We didn't bother to change rooms, as I didn't want to have to deal with the reception staff again: it was not the kind of experience we needed when spending time with the family for a celebration. On the plus side, a helpful member of staff did supply me with some shampoo, as I had forgotten mine. In truth, that's about the only good thing I can say about our experience. December 13, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Why bother Although the room itself was fine, and the free breakfast the following morning was good, I had two areas of concern a) the on-line details for the hotel indicates that there is only limited parking whereas in all truthfulness there is no parking next to the hotel itself, only drop off points. Although probably not good for trade it would be more honest to say no rather than limited b) when I made the reservation on line I thought that I had opted for a room with a double bed but upon arrival was given a twin bedded room. On questioning the front desk I was told that a 'standard' room gave no guarantee that the bed preference of the customer would be met (ie if there were only twin bedded rooms available that was all a customer would be offered). What is the point of offering a preference when making the reservation when it may simply not be satisfied on arrival? December 10, 2013

The train fare after the peak time is good value for exploring London We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The heating system was not working in the room but the staff very quickly supplied a heater as they could not get it fixed. The breakfast was very good and plenty of choice. We would happily stay here again December 3, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good location, good breakfast. Picked East Croydon hotel due to location to the train station and where myself and partner had to get to during our stay. We had a late arrival our receptionist was very welcoming- at first there seemed to be a little hiccup with our room but resolved v quickly in checking another one had been cleaned and we were good to go. The room was indeed clean and fairly spacious. Bathroom had a big shower and was well stocked up. Unfortunately the bed was a very cosy double bed and super soft..... Not much sleep was had. At one stage I was going to take out the sofa bed but we didn't have 2 sets of duvets. Anyway- breakfast in the morning was good and plentiful. Unfortunately there was a fire alarm during our stay- but this was dealt with in a calm and professional manner- it's just one of those things! I would recommend due to location. We arrived from train station later on so got a taxi- long taxi tide in comparison to where hotel is due to one way systems - in reality it's a 5 minute walk down the hill. November 29, 2013

Only slight problem; could not make room air conditioning work properly as unable to get temperature quite warm enough and selected temperature on control unit kept defaulting from selected value to an indicated 21 degrees. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Expected better I booked at this hotel as it is close to where a had to attend a crucially important appointment the following day. I booked a wake-up call which I never got. I enquired about this when checking out and was rewarded with raised shoulders, no eye contact and "I wasn't here then". The reception desk was manned by only one trainee member of staff to deal with the morning check-out rush. I'd looked forward to my break and was disappointed. I had frequent guest VIP status in my country of origin and until now had always had sterling service from all the Holiday Inns that I have stayed at. Would I stay here again? From the attitude of the staff member, I don't think they really care if I do or not. November 21, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good expreience Have stayed before and will Return. Took longer time than normal to check in - only one person at counter doing both bar and reception. Never cease to question the quality of sausages and scrambled egg at breakfast. Why not spend an extra 20 p and get something decent. Stayed in the Express at Bath later this week, and they had actually managed to make the eggs taste like eggs - evem though I think they use the same "powder". Otherwise everything was fine, Nice and cleam room, as I expect in the Expresses - it's why I like to stay there - if only you could improve the breakfast! November 19, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Abysmal Service and Poor Breakfast On arrival was presented with 3 different check-in cards all plainly marked with somebody else's name. It took over 10 minutes to get the correct pre-printed card for signing. Very unusual as priority club members we have our card and key ready to go on arrival. Much drama about checking payment cards, even though payment was in advance, never had that before as a priority club member. We had a 2 night stay, but the reservation system believed we had a one night stay followed by another night as two different people! The reception staff were very unhelpful and suggested we checked out and back in again the next morning, and maybe have to change rooms as well just for maximum inconvenience for us and minimum inconvenience for them. Of the two key cards only one worked due to the front desk person not being trained in the room key coding systems. We did have to check in again the next day despite assurances that this was all sorted. Our key cards didn't work on the second day because the system had been told we had checked out that morning. Seems the re-check-in was a waste of our time. Breakfast was very poor. Only dried out sausages, powered egg goo and mushy beans on the first morning. Poor choice of 1 type of hard cheese and 2 types of bread on the second. Fruit might have been available, but it had run out and not been re-stocked. Reconstituted orange juice only dispensed 15ml per press so a very long queue formed. Was asked on departure if we had enjoyed our stay. There was zero evidence that any staff member had noted any issues and there was obviously no communication between shifts. If you encounter an issue be prepared to repeat yourself often to numerous different staff members. One of the lifts wasn't working so everybody spent over 10 minutes waiting for the lift, and then having to wait again for a lift with few enough people to squeeze into it! November 12, 2013

Free wi-fi and breakfast were great. The beds were very uncomfortable. The sofa bed was changed during our stay and was a much needed improvement. The elevators were unpredictable and one was out of service for 1/2 of our 8 day stay. November 11, 2013

Booked room for two adults and a child but only had bedding for the double bed. Staff was ok to be asked for bedding but not impressed when we also asked for additional towels for the third person. However breakfast was lovely with pleasant, helpful staff on hand. November 10, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great service Booked as it was a good rate, have previously booked Hiex nearer London but was able to use East Croydon station which had regular service into London Victoria. is approx 20mins Was able to arrive early and put the suitcases in a room to enable us to visit London. Found the breakfast was well stocked and did not struggle to get seats - good value and quality. Especially wish to praise (Nicky)? - I hope I have her name right. She might be local to the area, made us feel very welcome and always asked if there was anything we needed. She went the extra mile - which made a difference to our stay so thanks Nicky.... The staff are arrogant, the food disgusting, the breakfast basic, poor selection of beverages/alcohol, the space on the car park over stated, two cars if your lucky and they are taken up by staff. Parking in local Q park £50 for week. The only plus side is it is located in Croydon which does have some good restaurants November 2, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by confused staff The first room given, on th 8th floor was, when i entered, full of someone else's things, luckily they were not in. Back to reception. then, i was taken back up with a member of staff as if i was making it up. Back to reception. given another room, which was empty, but the whole process took 45 ninutes from first check in. Not really what you want whilst carrying 3 large bags and a laptop, when all you want is a shower and some food. Rubbish service. October 21, 2013
