Let's start with the good points, fair room with an excellent shower. The problem was that throughout the stay there were not enough staff on duty to cope with the number of guests booked in the night of our stay. The first disappointment was no greeting as a priority club member, but the real problem was breakfast which was a farce! On arrival there were no available tables but at least half needed clearing. Once we cleared one ourselves, we discovered that the breakfast bar was poorly supplied so we took what we could and then returned on a number of occasions to see what had arrived from the kitchen. I don't blame the staff on duty as they were doing the best they could but was disappointed that the duty manager was no where to be seen. On this occasion this franchisee let down the brand.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Em1013 Good Hotel for the Excel
Stayed due to convention at the Excel.
Very close to the DLR stop or short walk to the Excel centre.
The hotel is clean and modern. The rooms reflect this.
My room was on the 3rd floor and was clean and quiet.
The breakfast was a limited choice, but was good quality. The staff are friendly and attentive.
My stay exceeded my expectation for the price paid for the room.

The room was very clean, and newly refurbished, these are the two stars for.
However, during my stay, some cigarette smoke comes out from the bathroom vensalation during the middle of the night (probably people next door are smoking). I called the reception to deal with it, and they never showed up in 30 mins. So I called again, and they said that they have inspected the corridor (they didn't come in to my room for no reason) and they didn't smell anything, so they decide to do nothing, not even giving me a response which was all I I was waiting for that half an hour. The manager came to my room again, inspected the bathroom this time and agreed to change a room for me. He said he will call me when the room is ready. Again, after another 30 mins, no calls! I was annoyed by the time smelling behave of the smoke and not being able to sleep. So I directly went to the reception downstairs. This time the manager was not there, however, the receptionist told me that the key had been ready to be picked up in like 20 mins. (What? I need to pick up my key card for your fault?! I was told to wait in my room though!)
Anyway, I could finally get a new room, at 1:30am.
