The Mackinaw Bridge was closed and the staff picked up for the change in traffic. The staff went out of their way to help everyone there that day. Even ones with an additute got the same warm and caring helpful attention. Extra staff came in to attend to the snow and clean rooms and common areas.
Unbelievable how they pulled it all together. With no rooms left they directed those stranded there to other venues.
I travel for business and this crew has changed me to HEI as my first choice. They need to be seen in action to be appreciated. What a wonderful experience under such a stressful situation.

I consistently stay at HI express and this location in Mackinaw City is by far the best run I have ever stayed at. The staff will ask simple questions like do you have a need to do laundry and locate me near this. The food is the best ever and the rooms are great also. But the breakfast bar is EXCELLENT!

When we arrived at the hotel around midnight we were greeted by a very friendly staff at the front desk. The lobby area and great room were all very up to date and looked clean. We then went up to our room. The room was huge and clean. We had two balconies off our room also. The only negative comment I have about the room was that one of the windows did not have a shade to pull over to make the room darker so in the early morning it was hard to sleep because of the light streaming in the window. Breakfast was great. There was a large selection and the food tasted delicious. The fitness room was clean and a good size. The pool area with hot tub and sauna was very relaxing after a day in the cold. It was dated, but clean. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel because of the service, cleanliness, and the great price I received. I was very pleased and will stay there again if in the area.

It nice waking up to see the bridge. The room was nice and the bed was comfortable our only complaint was when we checked in the temp outside was sub zero and the heat was not on in the room but overall a good experience

I booked this hotel for the night of December 27th so I could take my son swimming while we waited to meet his mother the following morning in Mackinaw City. Upon arrival I was disappointed to find out that the pool was not working but I was even more disappointed in the way in which the General Manager handled the situation.
When I expressed my displeasure she advised me that "I am not sure why you are confused, the notice regarding the hotel pool being down is all over the internet". I stated I did not find it anywhere on the website and was looking at the website on my phone and did not see it anywhere while we were speaking. At this time, some other people checked in and commented that it was a good thing they didn't bring their children because they didn't know the pool was down either.
The GM advised me that she was the only one who had authority to remove the note regarding the pool from the website and had not authorized it. She did state that she would call her corporate office and verify if it was still on there.
At this point the hotel did offer to refund my money. Unfortunately they had authorized the bank to withdrawal the funds before I ever arrived and if they reversed the charges, it would have taken 24 hours or more for the funds to be returned to my account. We eventually settled on a discounted rate, but I was again disappointed to see that the rate they offered was the rate that was currently being offered on the website. Which means I had somehow been charged a higher rate at the time I booked.
When I finally went to my room I checked the website and was able to find the note regarding the pool on one specific page of the website. It should be noted however, that you could book a room and complete a reservation without ever viewing this page. You had to specifically click on one portion of the website to reach it. Perhaps it should have been communicated via e-mail once my booking was confirmed?
An hour or so after checking in, the GM called me in my room to inform me that "I don't know what the issue is, but I called my corporate office and verified that the notice is still on the website. I just wanted you to know that." At this point I had already moved past the discussion and was really annoyed that she made it a point to call me in my room to point out that she had verified it with her corporate office. It was completely unnecessary and really displayed the lack of customer service this individual had.
So long story short, the hotel was clean enough, although somewhat dated for a Holiday Inn Express. I travel for work and try to stay at HIE as often as I can. My experience with this hotel and the management will more than likely push me to Hilton Properties in the future.

When we arrived on a very cold afternoon, we were greeted very warmly by the folks on the front desk,(in contrast to two other hotels in Mackinaw City, where we were barely accnowledged at the front desk). Room was clean,large,and very comfortable. The breakfast bar was a real surprise with all the usual fare, but also had fresh,hot scambled eggs,sausage,gravy,cinnimon rolls, and probably some other things I missed. We will highly recomend this hotel to everyone.

The room was spacious and clean. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Their acceptance of small dogs without fees was greatly appreciated and resulted in our booking several times. The refrigerator and microwave were also appreciated. The breakfast was above par with fresh coffee available at all times.

I would highly recommend this hotel. It was a nice location, easy access to Mackinac City. We stayed Nov. 23, 2013 and the pool and hot tub were closed. When I booked the room online there was nothing noted as to the rennovations being done so we were very disappointed. The room was very nice and the breakfast was very good.

Great staff and clean room. Unfortunately, the walls are so thin even normal conversations in adjoining rooms can be heard and if you have a loud tv or kids next to you, forget about sleeping. Too bad they didn't spend a little money on construction.

We almost always stay at this hotel every time we visit the area. Usually it is quite noisy in the evenings and mornings but this stay was very quiet (mid October though). We were most impressed by the lady working at the desk on Friday, October 18, 2013 when we checked in around 6:00 p.m. She was one of the most friendly staff members we have ever encountered at a hotel and very informative.

The facility was very clean and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The only suggestion I have is to replace the mattresses. They appear to be older and are worn. Lots of valleys. At least this was true in room 210.

About 2 hours after checking out of the Holiday Inn Express in Mackinaw City, and after crossing the Mackinaw bridge, and heading west in the Upper Peninsula, my wife realized that her purse was not in the car. After exhausting all other possibilities, she called the Holiday Inn Express in Mackinaw City, MI and spoke to Jessica. She told Jessica where she thought the purse might be. Jessica found it and offered to "overnight" the purse to a Staybridge Suites hotel in Minneapolis where we planned to stay the next few nights. The purse was on it's way within an hour or so, tracking information was forwarded by Denise, the Manager, and the purse was delivered to our hotel in Minneapolis mid-morning the following day. Needless to say we were greatly relieved!
Both Jessica and Denise couldn't have been more helpful! The courtesy, professionalism and commitment to outstanding customer service shown by both Jessica and Denise is greatly appreciated.

As a Gold member, Even though Holiday Inn gives you Rewards points, they make it very difficult for the individual hotels to let you use them.
The Manager (Denise) at this hotel went out of her way and help me use mine and it was greatly appreciated.

On our tour of Michigan, we stayed at 6 different Holiday Inn
Express. This was the best. I told the clerk, when we were leaving, that we knew it was an older hotel (only because of the heating
unit's age, not it's capability) but it has had very good care and
maintenance. A nice place to visit.
