Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by unatisfied I will never stay here again...
I checked into Madison HIExp around 11:30 on a Friday night after a long drive. Stepping into the lobby, I should have just walked out and gone somewhere else. The lobby, pool, hallways, and any tables, chairs, couches, floor space was taken over by peewee wrestlers and parents (used term loosely), since obviously the kids were running the hotel. The ONE elevator was completely monopolized by kids playing and running up and down the halls and stairwells well after midnight and on to early morning hours...while the parents spent the night out talking each other and drinking in the lobby/bar area they had created and camped out in. In the morning the "complimentary" breakfast and coffee must have been enjoyable since there was nothing available when we arrived. Parking was non-existant. I was not surprised when checking out Sunday morning, the nice young man at the front desk, didn't ask me how I enjoyed my stay. He said he could tell by the look on my face, he didn't really want to know. So, in conclusion, I've spent thousands of dollars over the last several years staying in Holiday Inn Exp...most recently in Rochester, MN...I'll find a room somewhere else if at all possible before I stay again. I've travelled with travel soccer teams for nine years....we were NEVER EVER allowed to take over a hotel like this one was.

One of my favorites stops in Wisconsin. Vincent at the front desk did a great job and makes your hotel a very comfortable travel stop.

We were disapointed with the fact that the pool closed @ 11 pm on Friday and Saturday night. You are across from center for events that don't end, high school hockey games, basketball, etc.
These generally don"t end until 10:30 pm. We stayed there with other families and figured the pool would be open until midnight. You do not have a life guard on duty, so what was the harm in another hour on the weekend, staff working at that time was pretty grumpy about it. Sorry, but we are staying a different place in Madison this weekend for the state basketball tourn. for this reason.
Staff, when we checked in and out were very good.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by 21Cherokee Great staff and service, terrible room experience
The people at the front desk were great. When we realized that there was no room service, they were kind enough to run menus down to our room. They were helpful and cheerful. The room, however was a different story.
We stayed in a room on the first floor. I don't know why, but there were so many extremely loud plumbing, dehumidifier and furnace sounds. It was impossible to sleep. When we finally got to sleep, someone else on that floor decided to turn the music on ridiculously loud. We were so tired that I didn't even have the energy to get up and call the front desk. We got up early in the morning and left.

Front desk staff outstanding. Room cleaned very well each day.
Winter storm had my early flight cancelled. Late check out request handled with concern and compassion.
Thanks to all!

Chose this hotel because it was across the street from the concert venue we were going to that night. The room was supposed to have a king sized bed, it only had a double. There was a musty odor as soon as you walked into the room. NO refrigerator or microwaves in the room. For what we paid, I would not stay there again.

We have stayed at this Holiday Inn Express several times, as our daughter recently completed her degree at the U of W. First of all, Vincent has been at the front desk checking us in nearly every time. He has excellent customer service skills. When we checked in last weekend, he knew who we were which impressed me. He has been helpful with directions, restaurant recommendations, and just all around friendly (even when his Packers lost on Saturday). Being in business for myself over the years, that kind of an employee is a true asset.
We found the accomodations to be excellent. Comfortable, clean, good sized room. Great price. Not a luxurious Las Vegas hotel, but that's not what we were looking for. The lemon water and fresh baked cookies are a nice touch when checking in. We weren't there for the dinners, but the breakfast choices were sufficient, and healthy if that's the way you want to go. That itself adds at least $20 in value, as breakfast for two would be more than that at a restaurant in Madison.
No bar, but we took care of that next door at the Sheraton, so no problem.
Now that my daughter has graduated, we won't be spending a lot of time in Madison, but when we do, we will be staying here.

The rooms are comfortable and clean. The evening food is terrible; everything is smothered in BBQ sauce every night. Really poor choices.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Stevan Well, they DO call it "Holiday" Inn
I was driving cross-country from Seattle to upstate New York and managed to hit Madison on Thanksgiving. Everything (food-wise) was closed, but the very helpful desk clerk, Vincent, helped me locate a Perkins. It wasn't the most joyous holiday I could have asked for, but Vincent was so cheerful, he helped saved the evening. (We both have an interest in computers, so we stood at the front desk for about a half hour and "talked shop." I love Holiday Inn Express because they are almost all modern, very clean, and very well-appointed. If I ever find myself in Madison again, I'll be at the HIE!

Room was 'OK', people at the front desk were great, but the place looks not well kept/old/carpets heavily smell from too many years of service, Gym looks like a submarine one, tiny room, squeezed in a tiny place, etc. everything functioned well and it wasn't a bad experience, but i'm glad it was just me and not my family with me on this trip. in short, not what i would expect from Holiday Inn Express.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by LynnM Great location & nice accomodations
This is a great location in Madison, within a beautiful 10 minute drive to Downtown & UW. No close restaurants was the only drawback to location. The staff was very helpful & friendly. The complimentary happy hour was a welcome surprise. The room was adequate. Nice indoor pool. Good breakfast. Overall good stay.

The only complaint I would have is that the room was way too hot and did not cool down very quickly although it was a very warm weekend when we arrived.
The bed was exceptionally comfortable once we were able to fall asleep. Love the pillow top mattress.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MarqUWI Excellent employees & very comfortable room
While in town for an event at the Alliant Energy Center/Dane County Coliseum, we stayed at this hotel. The front desk crew & housekeeping employees were very friendly, thorough, helpful, and attentive. We accept the increased cost per night during this special event and pay that in return for the convenience of the location. The breakfast choices provided a good start to each day.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Exhibitor Great location for staying during World Dairy Expo, if you don't mind a couple of issues.
I have stayed at this hotel for the last several years during world dairy expo. This year's room had a heating/cooling unit that was torn apart when I arrived, and it was obvious the floor had not been vacuum before my arrival. The heating unit was very inconsistant all week, becuase all rooms are booked for the week, there were no other rooms to move into. Furthermore, prepayment is required which I completely understand for this week, but upon checkout my total bill was different from the prepayment and no one knew why. One week later I'm still trying to get my bill and credit card straightened out.
