This hotel was very basic and comfortable. We were there to celebrate New Year's Eve and had two rooms with people. With a little furniture arrangement there was plenty of space in the rooms for us to have a couple of pre drinks and the staff were more than happy to provide us with some extra glasses. Security was good as a key card is needed to use the lift. Just round the corner from the main train station and a short taxi or London walk from the main clubs and pubs of the city centre.
Breakfast was nothing to shout about but it was helpful with the bad hang overs for those of us who made it!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by leedsutd great location and comfortable bed
easy to get to being a 2 min walk from oxford road train station, 5 mins walk from the tram and with a free city centre bus which stops outside. the bus also makes it easy to explore the city shops. within walking distance of the palace theatre, the art gallery and china town.
the hotel itself is pretty much what you would expect from a Holiday Inn express. the room was clean, quiet and a really comfortable bed.
And the palace theatre is just 2 mins away.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by ConstantTraveler2010 Definitely won't stay here again
I stayed here for 3 nights because I had business at the University of Manchester, which is within easy walking distance of the hotel. I stay in a lot of hotels over the course of a year and would definitely not stay in this one on future trips to Manchester.
It took three people to check me in. The staff was not very professional, and they were too busy joking around with each other to pay much attention to me as I was checking in. I am a Priority Club Gold member, and this was never acknowledged during my stay. I was not seeking any special privileges, but normally I am at least greeted using my name when I check in to a Holiday Inn property. I called down to the desk for a couple of reasons over the course of my stay and the staff were generally rude and unhelpful, as if I was interrupting some much more important thing that they were doing. I asked for directions to the Manchester Museum (less than 15 minute walk from the hotel, and one of the few family-friendly venues in the immediate area), and the gentleman on the counter had no idea where it was, although another of his colleagues eventually came to his rescue and even found a map to give me with the location marked on it. When I checked out, I had a very early flight, so had to leave the hotel before 6 am. There was nobody at the desk because they were all having their breakfast in the kitchen, I had to call out 3 times before anybody wandered out of the kitchen and even then I was informed that they were in the middle of their breakfast. My mistake for thinking the guest should have priority over the staff's breakfast!
The room was freezing. Despite having the heat set to the highest level and greatest fan speed, the room did not warm up after several hours. When I called down to request another blanket, I was informed that the heat had to be switched on at the front desk. They did so, but the room never did warm up. Unless you stood approximately two and one-half feet from the heat fan (which was above the room door), it was impossible to feel any heat at all. I slept in pajamas, socks and a sweatshirt and needed two layers of clothes when sitting around the room at any time. The only way to get hot water in the bathroom basin was to flush the toilet, otherwise the water was lukewarm at best. The wall-mounted desk lamp did not work, even when the bulb was changed and I had to request that the staff find me some sort of alternative lighting so that it was possible to work at the desk - it was very dark without a light. They did manage to find a floor lamp for me.
The room was not very clean. There were spots on the pillowcases and sheets, the sofa and nearly every surface in the room (including the shelf above the tea kettle) were dusty, there were stains on the sofa and desk chair, and the carpet was badly stained - it had clearly not been shampooed in a very long time (if ever). There was a very unpleasant mildew smell from the shower drain and the toilet water. The first time I pulled on the shower door, the handle came off. At least they managed to repair that the same day! I encountered the cleaner one day because I needed to keep working my room for the day. I only wanted her to clean the bathroom and make the bed, but she did not understand enough English to do as I had requested. The bed was simply not made properly one other day - the duvet was left untucked and the sheet was lumpy.
The general amenities were poor. I do not generally object to the single container in the shower or by the sink that is supposed to act as shampoo and body wash or hand soap, but the quality of the product was very poor. I was truly annoyed by the use of paper facecloths. I have never seen that in a hotel before (even the budget hotels I have stayed in in the past). I cannot believe that cleaning facecloths as part of the laundry would cost more or be more wasteful than the paper facecloths that were useless in the shower. Although breakfast was free, the food quality was not good. Even at 7 am, the bread was stale, the scrambled eggs very runny and there were limited choices overall.
There is no restaurant in the neighborhood, so you have to go out to find meals. There is not much selection for places to eat in the immediate area, and I didn't feel very comfortable wandering around the area after dark. The hotel is just around the corner from Manchester's Oxford Road rail station, which might be a benefit if you are arriving at this station.
Overall, I thought this was a poor quality hotel, even for budget accommodation. In particular, I was rather annoyed by the customer service of the front desk staff, and the shocking lack of climate control in the room. I have at least one more trip to Manchester scheduled in a few weeks, and I will be booking into a competing hotel just up the road, I think, rather than attempting to stay at this hotel again. I certainly would not pay to stay at this particular hotel, and I would not recommend it.

Stayed here for two nights when attending a conference at the Palace hotel opposite. Delightful surprise. Much higher spec than the usual holiday inn express. Comfortable bed,,great power shower, good size room. There was a problem with noise from the club next door but when i asked to move it was sorted straight away.
The thing that sets this hotel apart is the truly exceptional customer service from the front desk staff. The hotel was full but they still took time to offer directions, recommend restaurants and help look after luggage. We were helped to discover the free shuttle bus, enjoy a wonderful hidden Armenian restaurant and find a place to buy a tie! We heard from colleagues that their stay at the Palace had been a disaster ... Thanks HIE Manchester Oxford road ...see you again soon!

+ The room was beautiful, comfortable and very clean. I appreciate the two kind of pillows available. The breakfast had a large variety of food and the crew was efficient and neat.
- The heating was not working when I arrived and the room was quite cold. I called the reception and they switched the heating on, but it was not very powerful and the room never became really warm.

As a Priority Club member for more than 25 years, this was a stay I shall long remember. The entire experience was memorable. The room, staff, breakfast and facility were very nice. What we appreciated most was the care and concern of the staff. We asked where to go for a light supper and their recommendation was spot on. Later the following day, I met the fellow who had referred the restaurant the evening before. He approached me and asked me how it went. I was impressed that he remembered our chat. I believe he was as pleased as we were with the recommendation. He interest in our stay was typical of the entire staff.

Just had to stay in Manchester one night waiting for flight. Great location by station, just a tip, Oxford road, go down the hill if you have a lot of heavy luggage, and take a right. It gets you to the hotel same as the stairs, but you don't have to carry the suit cases if beyond heavy. Got in late and hungry, they got us checked in fast and then directed us to multiple food places nearby, variety for all budgets. Room was great, bed was beyond comfortable! Had no problems with sound from street (which we had windows looking out onto) or from other guests.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Maxel Great place to stay in the city centre
Helpful and friendly staff, quiet room and very spacious (by UK standards), modern and very comfortable. The so-called continental breakfast buffet even included hot options: sausages, scrambled egg and baked beans! All that and walking distance from the University. I will definitely stay there again when I return to Manchester.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by muckamorereds Great Hotel and locality, spoilt by manager
We had a party of 11 staying for a recent trip to see Manchester United and booked 3 rooms, 2 for 2 adults and 2 children and a third room for 3 adults, this was clearly stated at the time of booking and was acceptable that 3 adults share a room. The booking was paid for at the time.
On check-in the manager refused to accept the booking, stating that the triple room was only booked in for 2 persons and demanded an additional £30, I challenged this and contacted the friend who spoke with the manager and he still refused to accept the booking at the original price. My friend had to then forward the documentation via email before this was accepted, this was despite me having confirmation with me. Finally he agreed to let the rooms at the original price.
This has clearly tainted my view of this hotel despite the fact that the accommodation was good and the rest of the staff friendly and professional. I travel to Manchester 12 times a year and my friend organises our travel and hotel, he does the same for another 140 other club members. I am sure he will think twice about booking members in here again, given my experience.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Rooms was small
The room was cramped. The staff and breakfast were better than what HI Express offers in the US.
Great location near the sites in Manchester. They had a concierge that was a nice touch. There is a convenience store that is right next store. It is a 15 minute walk from the main train station and closer to other public transportation.
We were able to get from/to London major airports to Manchester all on public transportation. Gatwick --> Victoria --> Euston. The major train station is at the Euston subway station in London. You can pre-buy train tickets but they don't care if your plane was late. You will have to re-buy your train ticket!

Finding a hotel on New Years Eve at short notice may have been a tall order, but the hotel was able to accomodate me- and on a reward night too.
My only criticism was that on New Years Day, they stuck to the normal weekday time for breakfast service. Might have been a good idea to run an hour later, or operate weekend service times as it was a Bank Holiday and sure most guests would have been up late the night before.

Our purpose was to attend a concert at the Manchester Academy. This Holiday Inn Express was perfectly located for the venue with easy parking a short walk away and lots of pubs and restaurants to explore nearby. The hotel was comfortable and clean and the staff were amiable and helpful. The breakfast could have a little more choice, bacon would e a great addition but it was plentiful and adequate. I would recommend staying here and we will be back Im sure.

I was attending a conference in Manchester and the HIE in Oxford Road was ideally situated. It is close to the railway station with direct trains to the airport and within easy waling distance of the city centre. I think that this is quite a new hotel so the bathroom and furnishing was in good condition. The bed was comfortable and I slept well.
The weather was very cold outside and the room heating system struggled to keep the room warm.
The breakfast was standard HIE. Very limited hot food, sausages, beans and scrambled eggs and fair selection of cold food.
I often use HIE and this was a typical good example.

Very clean and pleasant place to stay and very convenient for central Manchester. I attached my phone to the wi-fi first, which only allows one device per allocation. One quick phone call to reception and the staff quickly sorted the issue and allowed me to connect my laptop instead. All round I was very impressed and will definitely use this hotel again.

A fairly new hotel and already has a nice feel to it. Lovely, friendly reception staff. Couldn't ask for better. Easy access to centre of Manchester overlooking Oxford Road Railway station - As good if not better than the average HI rooms (and I rarely have a complaint about them). And here is the downside - a Disabled access room - with a Wet room shower and toilet..... That stayed wet for the whole stay. A virtual lake across the floor Not just damp had standing water.
Breakfast was the usual high standard in the back of the reception area - they actively encourage you to take your trays back to bed. Result.
One added titbit. the hotel comes with a Doorman/Bouncer - very friendly guy (on the night I was there) It is the middle of Manchester after all.

When we arrived we were earliy so our room wasn't ready but the receptionist took our bags and gave us a handy map of the city centre and pointed out the shopping area etc which was very helpful!
When we checked in and went to our room we were happy at the clenliness of the room and bathroom and i was looking forward to a relaxing sleep in the very comfty bed!
But when it came to bed time the noise in the room was hurrendous! The booming bass and music from a local club was extreamly loud and went on until 4 AM!!!!
when the music finally stopped and i finally fell a sleep i was then rudly woken up by banging at 7.30AM!!!! which continued for over and hour and a half!
I had had less than 3 hours sleep and was not on the best of moods! so we decided to go for breakfast....... where the dissapointment of the stay continued!!!
The HOT Breakfast consisted of saussage, scrambled egg and baked beans! wheres the options????? boring extreamly basic and only just warm!
Yes we arrived at breakfast at a busy time but there was 2 members of staff on and they wernt clearing tables qick enough!
I had to clear a table myself as there were only 2 tables available by the time we qued for our food! And the dirty plates I shifted were still on the table with the toaster even after we finished with our table!!
When we checked out the receptionist took our room keys asked for the room number and said good bye! No Was your stay ok or Nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We will NOT be staying in a holiday inn express ever again!
the experiance was a shambles for the price we paid we could have had a better stay at a youth hostel!
