I have always favoured this hotel when going to Manchester but have not used it for some time. I was disappointed to see that it is now looking tired and in need of some work. Before listing my concerns let me say that I have spoken to management at the hotel and they have already offerred what in my opinion is some considerable compensation and I will be staying here on another two occasions over the next few months so we'll see if any improvements are made.
Firstly the car parking, I object strongly to being charged for parking at any hotel although perhaps I can accept it is necessary in London. If thre are propblems with misuse of the car park then why not put barriers up and ensure guests do not pay (nearby example being the Crowne Plaza at the airport). If this is not addressed soon I wil;l start to use one of the other hotels in Manchester offering free parking.
Next is the overall appearance/decoration of the hotel. It is starting to look very tired, the room we were in (413) had curtains looking drab and scorched presumably from someone smoking at the window, they were also hanging off the rail. The paintwork is looking dirty and there is plaster damaged near the bed. The bed itself was uncomfortable and obviously old, the shhets didn't fit the bed either. The pillows are always a problem for me and when I can I take my own.
The staff although in general pleasant and helpful we did have a problem with housekeeping staff who hogged the only working lift at peak time in the morning when people are using it to take luggage downstairs. We did take this issue up with the housekeeping staff and received an apology, hopefully that situation will be addressed quickly
The breakfast was satisfactory and the croissants excellent, it was very busy the day we were there and the staff coped well keeping everything topped up.
This has always been a favourite hotel of ours and I hope it will be improved soon, the location is terrific and the area around it full of restaurants, activities etc.
I will submit a review again after we have revisited and hopefully I can report that the hotel is back up to standard.

Can't fault the attentiveness of the staff.
Would liked a bit more space in the room, but that's the price you pay.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by bigjock Comfortable with excellent staff.
Although this hotel is out of the way for the City Centre, it was ideally situated for our needs.
Toby, the manager, is an absolute delight, and is a very personable, and helpful, guy.
Breakfast is adequate, but disappointing that there is no bacon.

Toby on Reception couldn't have been more helpful (taxi booking, late checkout etc). Rooms clean and well-appointed. Normally stay in City Centre but will consider staying here in future.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Swatsy Great value and convenient location
We booked this hotel having stayed at another Holiday Inn Express in Swindon. We were going to Old Trafford for the stadium tour as a belated birthday present.
We could see the stadium from our bedroom window and were able to leave the car and walk there in a few minutes. In fact the hotel's location was so convenient that we got to visit a few extra places which we hadn't planned.
The staff were friendly, breakfast was hot and plentiful, and the room clean.
For the couple of nights we stayed this hotel delivered everything we expected of it, delivered it well and for a reasonable price.

Quiet attractive location, easy outdoor surface parking, pleasant people, good service. A modern good quality budget hotel. Handy for the Lowry and Imperial War Museum, dependent upon your point of view it's also handy for Old Trafford. We would happily stay here again.

This hotel is in an excellent location in Salford Quays minutes walk away from Media City, the Lowry Theatre and the War Museum. This together with the tram service into the city centre a few hundred metres away with regular trams and cheap day returns makes for a perfect stay.
The staff at the hotel were excellent and value for money very good.
