Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Glad to be off the HiWay for the night! We were traveling to our daughter's home in MN for New Year's Eve and decided we did not want to "push" the whole way in one day as we had two of our young grandsons with us. It was brutally cold and even though the roads were really quite good, winter travel is just more "stressful" in our opinion. We arrived a bit after dark at the HIE Mason City, IA and received the usual warm greeting from the front desk. I had told them about the two grandsons when I made the reservation with the front desk on the phone earlier that day, and they had rooming directly across the hall from the pool. What a hit that was for the boys as well as easier for Grandma & Grandpa getting them to and from the pool. Thanks Mason City, IA HIE for a good evening/night after a long cold day on the road! I'm sure we'll be back! January 8, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome experience!! Our family had an early Christmas gathering at the Mason City Holiday Inn Express and it was a wonderful experience. Crystal helped me line up a block of rooms and she even made some suggestions for local restaurants. Upon arrival the staff made us feel welcome and were more than accomodating. Can't say enough good about our stay!! Everyone there was amazing!! December 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exceptional staff The care and concern for us during my daughter's hospital stay was above and beyond what we could have expected. They even included us in Thanksgiving dinner. Thank you. December 14, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly staff, wonderful breakfast This is a wonderful hotel with great friendly, helpful staff! We enjoyed the cookies at the front desk and breakfast in the morning. So happy that the breakfast included several choices of PROTEIN rather than just carbs. We also like having a coffee pot in the room to start our day before we get dressed to come downstairs to have breakfast where more coffee is offered! Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Mason City, Iowa! December 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Holiday change of pace This was a good experience. Great in everything except one thing and you can't fault a staff over the holiday for drunken guest letting their kids run a muck. Pool rules say no Alcohol. Blue cans of Beer on the table. No Diving or Jumping into pool. Kids Diving & jumping into pool playing football. Throwing football end to end in the pool area. So that sounds like a big gripe but really, with limited staff it really is minor and the rest was just wonderful on our stay.. The Guy taking care of the breakfast area did a great job keeping up. Many have failed with less people in the Breakfast area. Maids did just as well asking if we needed anything. Can not thank the staff over all for the service. November 30, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great place to stay! This is one of my best experiences at any hotel. The front desk staff and the breakfast host were awesome. They really treated us like we were valuable guests. From the friendly greetings by the front desk staff to the instant attentiveness of the breakfast host, this hotel's employees are top notch. Will definitely stay at this hotel if I am ever in Mason City area again. November 19, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Cold pool and cold-shouldered staff We deliberately stayed at this hotel to allow our 4 year old to swim and have some fun before meeting up with family the next day. When we went to the pool shortly after arriving around 2:30 ( (and waiting 15 minutes to check in as there was no one at the desk), we found it to be extremely cold and definitely not pleasant to play in for hours on end. When the older lady at the desk was asked to turn up the heat she was quite rude and abrupt and refused to even listen. Several children persisted in staying in the pool and were turning blue and shivering but soldiering on with the determination of the young. Early the next day we tried again to the same freezing pool and an out of order hot tub. When we entered one of the rooms our four year found a dirty fork inside the air conditioning unit. Overall everyone seemed more concerned about a wedding going on with a staff member than any other guest in the hotel. As I stay in many hotels throughout the year and many of them are Holiday Inns I can certainly say I was very dissapointed in this one. The only shining star we had was meeting Linda the night auditor and her empathy and good humor saved our impression of your hotel from being a total waste of time and points. November 7, 2013
