Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Cinammon Rolls mmmhhh good The Holiday Inn Express is set up right around many restaurants and shops so finding what ever you need is within a mile. The rooms are nice just seem average but nothing wrong with that. The Breakfast was really good they have warm cinnamon rolls everyday and cheese omelets, pancakes and a nice selection of other items. Food quality was good and it changed up slightly each day for variety. Staff was excellent we had a small birthday party in the dining area impromptu and the staff got us plates, napkins and anything else we needed and cleaned up after us. When we get back to this area we will stay at the Holiday Inn Express again. June 6, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Clean The Holiday Inn Express in Matthews, NC was a pleasant surprise. The entire property was very clean, and my room seemed as if I was the first guest to stay there. The staff were friendly and helpful, there was little if any noise from the outside, the shower was nice and strong, and the housekeeper did an excellent job of freshening the room each day. I will definitely stay here again. May 31, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful Stay I really enjoyed this hotel. It was easy to find, very clean, and near plenty of food options. The Crackerbarrel is in the same parking lot as the hotel! The only issue is trying to make the left hand turn into the hotel is very hard since it is located on a very busy 2 lane highway. I would stay here again and recommend it to others. May 19, 2014

I think the staff must be used to dealing with business people which is great, but for someone on holidays it was a little "stiff", but they do have to deal with lots of different people as part of everyday. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Visit to the Grandkids We normally stay at the Staybridge ( another IHG property) however they were overbooked and your property had availability. We were somewhat concerned in the location from our daughters house. We were pleasantly surprised in both how nice the property and location were. Your staff was excellent and went out of there way to make us feel at home. Just a short reminder to make sure that the batteries were changed out on the door room lock. The gentleman at the front desk had to do a unlock for us. We were please with our stay and will be back again. Thanks to IHG and your management and staff for making the IHG brand number one. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Breakfast We stay at HIE exclusively when we travel. While the overall variety of the breakfast was the same, the hot items were not up to par with other HIE we visit. Two mornings there was no gravy to go with the biscuits and one morning there was no sausage. The eggs ran out for a considerable period another day. The two women maintaining the breakfast were very friendly and helpful but the available items was not up to par with other hotels. We were there 4 days and each day there was something missing. I travel a lot so its nice to have some conversation other than usual when checking in. Location is great, room was as to be expected. I will stay here again with out a doubt. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good, but.... In early February 2014 we spent three nights in the Holiday Inn Express in Matthews, NC. The facility seems fairly new, is clean, and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. We chose this hotel because of its location near family and because the AAA tour book showed that it had refrigerators, as did some pictures on its web site. On check-in we found that the room did not have a refrigerator. When I asked about this at the front desk, they explained that some rooms had them and others did not. However, they quickly volunteered to provide a portable unit, which was soon installed in our room. Overall, the room and bath were fine. The housekeeping service was not intrusive and very thorough. Breakfast was provided each morning and was mostly standard fare for hotels. All items were arrayed on one continuous counter top which made available work space non-existent. There are two features of which all potential customers should be aware. First, located somewhere near the hotel is a rock quarry which operates 24/7. This operation produces a somewhat low whining sound that continually pulses. It can be annoying when trying to sleep. Secondly, every evening we had noise that appeared to come from the room above. Intermittently, it sounded like an elephant trying to tap dance. The noise would start and stop most of the evening but, fortunately, ceased by 10:00 or 10:30 each night so sleeping was not a problem from that source. The building could obviously benefit from improved sound proofing. February 9, 2014

I was making arrangements for my elderly parents and she answered every question I had, and ensured the check-in process went smoothly. I also watched her interact with other guests and she always had a smile on her face. My parents liked the hotel and staff so much they decided to extend their stay! Again- Barbara and Shivonne ensured that there were no issues and my parents were able to stay in the same room. January 28, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Hairy Bed We did not get to check in until about 10:30pm - which had nothing to do with the hotel. The problem was that we get in that late to find that the bed FULL of hair! It was all over the pillows in the sheets, etc.. It was disgusting. We went to the front desk and the man there was very apologetic and seemed sincere and said he would be sure to tell the Houskeeping staff. The bed had been made up nice and neat but obviously no one bothered to change the sheets! So it was very irritating to get in at that time and then have to go change our own sheets and make the bed! Also the pillows are pathetic! They are so thin and flimsy it was quite sad. The breakfast area was dirty and not well taken care of. The tables were not being cleaned off and the carpet was very dirty like it had not been steam cleaned in years there so many stains in it. The biscuits were literally hard as a rock. The entire stay was very disappointing and I was glad I had used points for the stay instead of cash - but then it was so bad I felt I wasted my points too! Also we expected to see a microwave and fridge but had none. There were also hairs on the towels. January 2, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful Home Away From Home at Christmas We had a wonderful stay during Christmas. The property was convenient for visiting our family and for nearby restaurants. We enjoyed the indoor pool. Other hotels we looked at in the area had outdoor pools. The staff were very courteous and accommodating. They even helped get Santa's gifts to our son, who was uncertain about traveling during the holidays and whether Santa would find him. The breakfasts were as good or better than similar hotels we've stayed at in recent years. The pancake machine was a hit with our son. December 28, 2013
