Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by a1234 Great - my favorite HI express
This is a great hotel. It is a nicer than average facility, but the great part about it is the workers. I don't know if you get better people in a small town, or if people care more because there are not as many jobs in this area, but it just seems like everyone is trying to do whatever extra they can to make it nice for the guests. This is not a place where the staff is just shooting to meet the minimum standards, they really are good. From housekeeping to the desk help, they all seem to be doing little things to try to make this the best hotel they can. They even have implemented improvements (that I have not seen at any other HI express) on the (typically tired and low quality) HI express breakfast. They mix peppers in those omelet things and don't use as much cheese as the standard recipe. 100% better. Also, unlike most hotels, some of the same people are here year after year. I've been coming here about 2x per year for about 5 years..there are some new faces, but many that I recognize. They actually care here..This is my #1 HI express.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by AKTravelingfool Clean, Comfortable and Friendly Staff
I have been staying here off and on for business over the past couple of months. What makes me come back to this hotel is the cleanliness of the hotel, the spacious rooms & work area for doing paperwork, the very comfortable beds and the very friendly staff greeting you with a smile no matter how early or late it may be making you feel right at home.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Sherrilynn I got the worst room in the house -- I hope
Even though I am a Platinum member I got the room above the reception desk, therefore I got no balcony, no view, and internet service was bad. When I called in about the bad internet service, found out that my room is known to have the worst service. There where people there on business, leisure and other that where staying one night. Out of all of these people who should get the room with KNOWN worst internet service a platinum member staying 5 night who is there on business.
The hotel staff never said hi to me when I entered, which I thought was very unkind, unfriendly and showed me that they were unhappy with their jobs, we are in Humboldt county, not NY city.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by 1Traveler72 ROOM READINESS & BREAKFAST SPACE
I called over 2 hrs ahead & when I arrived after 4PM, I was told the room was not ready "as the previous patron requested a late ck out" & it would be another 15-20 min. Since your ck out time is 11 AM I have never heard of someone staying until 3:30-4 PM to ck out. Nevertheless. I checked in. My husband & I decided pass the time & to take a drive & ended up eating dinner early. When we arrived back at the hotel pver 2 hours later, I was told the room was ready & that they had "called the phone number listed - my home number - to let us know the room was ready - DUMB or what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also heard on ck in that there was a wedding party here that night but that they would be eating breakfast with their own buffet in a separate room - THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. They took over the breakfast space & food & definitely added to the noise & confusion level. I know they paid for their rooms, etc BUT to take over the area, etc was unconscionable.

This hotel has an amazing staff! They were helpful, kind and went out of their way to make our stay amazing. The building feels like a big lodge. Very homey and comfortable. The rooms were larger than normal and comfortable as well. I would definitely stay at this hotel again in the future!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Scott23 Great room and great service
Our family (including 3 young children) stayed here as we were on a cross-country road trip. I opted for the king suite because it was only a few dollars more and we needed a little extra space for our children. When I spoke with the hotel staff and told them that we were traveling with young children they made sure to reserve us a suite with a hide-a-bed and had a crib for our youngest available. The room was very well appointed and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast had a good variety, though healthy options were still limited to oatmeal, bananas, and apples. I was surprised to see an automatic pancake maker instead of the Belgian waffle irons that are so ubiquitous at 3 star hotels and other patrons appeared to enjoy it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ginamae Thanks, and we enjoyed our stay!
We enjoyed staying at Holiday Inn Express in McKinleyville. The beds are extremely comfortable, and the towels and bed linens were better than average, so...thank you! it was nice to have the refrigerator and microwave in our room, and coffeemaker too.
I have to eat gluten free, so I checked with the server in the breakfast area regarding the ingredients in the eggs and sausage. They keep a binder with pages of served items and what they contain, so that was incredibly helpful - and yes, those items are GF.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ATcincy Convenient to airport and Redwoods Parks
This hotel could not have been a more convenient location for our final stay in California/Oregon. My husband and I were here for a wedding in Oregon and decided to make a vacation out of it by visiting the Redwoods parks and coastal towns. Because we were travelling from Medford, Oregon on our last day, we wanted to be close to the airport for our early flight home the next day. this was our main reason for choosing Holiday Inn. The Holiday Inn was the nicest hotel we stayed in while on our journey. The room was spacious and offered a lot of amenities of which we were not able to take full advantage due to our short stay. If you are just visiting the Redwoods and towns on the northern coast, this hotel could easily be your home base as it is relatively close to everything.

I have stayed at this property over 10 times in the past. For me it ranks best of all the HIEs and I have sampled many. That is not to say other HIEs are substandard, far from it. This hotel simply excels in all areas.. First the location is superb with nice views and away from traffic noise on the highway. The facility is well maintained and always feels fresh and clean. The staff has always been cheerful and ready to help. The breakfast area fresh, well stocked and of ample size, There is a reason I keep coming back. Please don't change anything you have been doing in the past. While on the expensive side, it is money well spent and I look forward to my next visit..

I was on business in Eureka and my choices for hotels were non existent. Most are old and trashy. The Holiday Inn Express in Mckinleyville was well worth the drive. Great location. Large spacious and very clean rooms. Staff was friendly. highly recommend this location.

The down home customer service with a feel good experience. From Housekeeping, our breakfast prep worker to the front desk each and every member of the staff were courteous, helpful and friendly. One of the best hotel experiences at this level I have ever had. They all were genuine in their treatment of their guest. Everyone went out of their way to make you feel like you were staying with kinfolk. I will never stay anywhere else when visiting this area in the future. Highly recommend it. I am a world traveler and have been for 37 years so I know what I'm talking about.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Leas Relaxing and comfortable!
Our son had highly recommended the Holiday Inn Express in McKinleyville. In addition, the room is large with a balcony and very comfortable. The service was great. The hotel site has access to the Hammond Bike Trail that takes you north to Clam Beach or south to the mouth of the Mad River. It's mostly paved and skirts the ocean. We brought our bikes but you can rent them from the hotel as well. Great fun!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by missspender Spontaneous Overnighter
This was a spontaneous anniversary trip and I picked this hotel for the location and jacuzzi room. It was wonderful! It is hard to go wrong with Holiday Inn Express and we love the express check-in and check-out, plus the snack bag. We also had a balcony, but so little time to use it. My husband brought me breakfast in bed so I did not actually see all the food offerings. But what I ate was tasty and kept us going until a late lunch. The king bed was comfortable, firm pillow top with a light weight down comforter (or alternative) with double sheeting; my husband particularly enjoyed the easy chair and ottoman for TV watching. Lots of Direct TV channels just like home. Next time we come we will fly in and use the hotel shuttle. The best part by far was the in room jacuzzi, proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the city of Trinidad. We wish we could have stayed longer, but we will return. We enjoy the perks of belonging to the IHG Rewards Club.

Over a 4 night trip, we stayed at 3 different Holiday Inn Expresses and this one was the best by far. Very clean and appealing. The rooms were very clean, well decorated, comfortable beds, nicest bathrooms compared to the other 3 we stayed in. Helpful staff.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by FloristAlice AIR CONDITIONER NOT WORKING -SUBPAR AM STAFF
We stay at HIE almost exclusively when we travel. I had cancelled a reservation at a different hotel chain to change it to this one. The rates here are very high so we expected the hotel to be nice since I think it's fairly new. Got into the room and it was hot so we set the air for 74 and the temp just climbed. The room stayed at 80 plus which was miserable. The hotel was packed so another room would not have been an option as the front desk said there was no availability. Slept just terrible because of the heat and we were on a road trip so getting back in the car was not fun after very little sleep. We tried to let the girls at the front desk know. One of the girls was on her cell phone showing photos to the other when we were explaining the problem and she had zero interest in us. She just said ok and started talking again to the other. Breakfast was standard but the bacon was raw and limp with no crisp what so ever. Very disappointing and expensive stay for sub-par service and comfort. Properly working equipment and mature, well trained staff is the key to a good experience. This location needs some training.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hubie Location, location, location
After we found the hotel, we were very pleased with the location in that it's a good distance off of the highway. It's situated in a very nice and safe setting. There is no airport noise either. Access to the highway to Arcata, Eureka, etc. or the main road to downtown McKinleyville is easy.
The interior of the lobby is impressive. The breakfast nook was very clean and quite comfortable. We had a second story room, which we prefer and it was quite nice.
The staff were extremely helpful with directions and other requests.
Restaurant recommendation: Go to the Lost Coast Brewery in Eureka. It's right on the main highway on your right if you're traveling south.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by WestleyT Comfortable with All Conveniences
This is a very comfortable, clean hotel with all of the amenities needed to make an easy relaxing stay. We stayed four nights while our daughter was attending college orientation. So, the room amenities (fridge, coffee maker, microwave, free wifi), EARLY access breakfast (starts at 4:30 am), business center (if you need a printer or extra computer), pool/spa, fitness room provide every convenience. The staff is very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The hotel is very conveniently located near the airport and some of the more beautiful beaches. It is also close enough to the college and Arcata (3 miles) to be a feasible alterative to the hotels located within Arcata itself.

This was our first time staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Mckinleyville. The staff is wonderful, the rooms clean and the breakfast is very satisfying. My husband especially loved the biscuits and gravy. We have stayed in Eureka in the past and between the two locations, we would definitely choose The Holiday Inn Express. The area itself is much more pleasant than Eureka. Despite the fact we always left our room quite late in the morning, we always came back to our room being clean, the beds made, etc. The lobby is very comfortable -- a great place just to sit and relax. Definitely plan to stay there in the future.
