Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Need to Check in Faster Great hotel except for one thing. It takes for ever to get checked in even though you have reservations. After being on the road for several hours and with it getting late in the afternoon, the last thing you expect is to have to wait at the front desk for an extended amount of time just to get your room. I had reservations that I had made a week in advance. At most Holiday Inn Express Hotels the check in procedure is painless. Not at this hotel though. There was only one person in front of me but it still took every bit of 10-15 minutes for me to get the keys to my room. There has got to be a better way!! December 16, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I Stay Here Regularly I stay at this property frequently (three times thus far in 2014); I am now retired and have had a passion for touring Civil War sites that started when I was five years old. The hotel is ideally located for what I like to do; battlefields in charming, unspoiled rural areas are within ten minutes, and downtown Richmond is twenty minutes away. Because everything I want to do is so close, there is a relaxed feel to each and every stay. The staff (many of whom recognize me and greet me by name) is friendly and helpful; I never feel like a stranger during my stays (each of which are five to six days in duration.) From the front-desk operatives to maintenance to breakfast to housekeeping, the employees are all accommodating and personable.The clientele features an eclectic mix of people and ages, which makes the complimentary breakfast a pleasure to experience. For years while I was still working, my girlfriend always wondered why I enjoyed my summer annual trips to Mechanicsville so much. We married this past April, and in August she accompanied me to the area and the hotel. She quickly realized why I love the area and the hotel as much as I do!!!
