This hotel is showing its age. There are other hotels up the street that are better, especially at the government rate.

My husband and I attending a wedding at Goat Island, Newort RI and decided to stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Middletown. We were so delighted with the quality of the room and surrondings. We were able to go for long walks and enjoyed the fantastic breakfast. The 3 mile trip to Newport center was very easy. The only difference in the stay in Middletown was the location -- the room was just as comfortable as the more expensive rooms in Newport.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by paddyboy57 Our stay at Middletown, RI - Holiday Inn Express
Everything was really very good. The only thing that always needs improvement at Holiday Inn Express is the breakfast. Could have a few more selections and a toaster that works by constant feed via chain. The two slot "home" toaster is NOT appropriate for a breakfast crowd of 50 people. Are you kidding ? The food was GOOD, but could have had more selections. Always the same at Holiday Inn Express. It's like they HOPE you do NOT want to eat to much. Other than that the place was very nice and the staff were all pleasant. We would stay again,.

I first went to check in at 1:30pm and I was told that I couldn't check in until 3pm that a wedding was coming in and they had first right to check in. This was the first time I heard that one traveling for over 30 years. The breakfast the next morning, the staff couldn't handle the people that were coming for food or coffee. We picked up breakfast and coffee out of the hotel. We left the hotel at 10am to go out for the day and when were returned at 4:30PM the room wasn't cleaned, I was upset. No clean towels, no toilet paper and no tissues. So I went down to the desk to get stuff and they thought I was kidding and at that point they want to clean the room and I told don't waste your time. For what we paid for this room and the service you would think they would offer something for the lack of service.
If you ever stay at this hotel get a room around back and maybe you won't hear all the road noise....

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by EAdkins Comfortable beds, but cleanliness was lacking
Room was cleaned 3 days, but floor was not swept on at least one day leaving obvious debris on carpet. One day the dresser was not cleaned off and pizza crumbs from previous day were still there. That day the guy cleaning my room was leaving as I got back and he left the room reeking of body odor. It was so bad I had to go to lobby to do my computer work. Front desk clerk apologized, but no manager went to my room to check on it or tried to make the inconvenience up in any way. In fact I have seldom seen a staff that went so far our of their way to not acknowledge and greet guests when they past them in hallways.
The room temp was controlled by a system that turned on the A/C or heat as you adjusted the temp. You are unable to just allow the room to go one degree warmer, the heat kicks on. I had to turn it off just to set the upper limit of my room to 77 when I left the room for the day.
