King mattress was worn out, too soft, unsatisfactory, and not up to other Holiday Inn Express experiences. Changed rooms second night - not much better. Only saw three rooms and did not try a two-bed room, so problem may not be universal.
Breakfast bar, internet, and TV all good.

Front desk staff - Jim - was admittedly dishonest about room availability. When I called him on it ( having gone online after checking in to book the room he said was not available) he replied: "You got me..." and proceeded to make up an excuse about why he lied.
Two hours later, a woman identifying herself as the front desk manager called me to inquire about the incident. She too proceeded to lie (indicating that the room had come available between the time I checked in and attempted to make a reservation) in an effort to cover up the apparent lack of integrity. I interrupted her before she could finish her explanation to advise that the front desk associate - Jim - had already admitted that I had caught him in a lie about the room availability. I also shared with her that he didn't seem to care beyond that admission, nor did he make any effort to apologize. All the manager seemed to want and care about was that I didn't write a negative review about the hotel. Needless to say… I will choose differently and more wisely the next time we decide to visit New Bern.
