Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Andytno1 Excellent Value for location
We stayed at the hotel for one week from the 13th of November 2012.
Check in was easy and even allowed to check in 2 hours early. Room was always cleaned to a high standard and the bed was to die for. The Free Wi Fi was a real perk and made our holiday even more enjoyable as days were easier to plan.
Breakfast was nothing elaborate however for free it was not to be sniffed at and we ate every morning of our stay.
Plus point was that there was always Coffee and Tea available when you entered the hotel and this was complimentary and made coming in out of the cold even more pleasurable
Location was great only 5 mins walk from Time Square and 10 mins from Macy*s.
Staff we very helpful and were always there to answer our questions.
Only down side was that there was no bar at the hotel however there were so many to choose from in NYC that was only a minor irritation.
Would recommend this hotel to other people travelling out to New York

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by MB35 Room, front desk, location concierge, breakfast
We were not in our room much at all, so the size was not important. Fine for a couple. It was clean, well maintained with a comfortable king mattress. We had trouble finding a hotel with a king bed option. The window was large with views of the city.
Professional and accommodating front desk staff. Let us choose the floor we wanted. They even made change for us, so we would have $5 bills for tips.
Hotel has ideal, safe location. Even though we are in our 50's, we could have (and did) walked to almost all of the attractions. To visit the WTC 9/11 memorial, we took the subway.
Joseph, the concierge on duty 2 days, was wonderful ( 5 star). He suggested excellent restaurants for us. One of them, Capital Grille, he knew had a non advertised special called pre- theater menu. Steak or fillet mignon, salad, bread, vegetable and dessert - $39 per person. Joseph made those reservations for our best meal ever. He gave us directions regarding subway routes, drawing it on the handy maps they had available, to any site we asked. Joseph set up a great tour of the city for our first day that included a boat ride to view the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Only way to see them, as closed due to super storm Sandy. The tour guide was articulate, plus knowledgeable of the history of NYC. This tour gave us the lay of the land for the next two days. Joseph exuded professionalism, courtesy, and was a real NYC ambassador, who made our trip easy. He even hailed us a cab.
The breakfast buffet was awesome. It had great variety, and was wholesome. Biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, plain and western omelets, bagels, rolls, cereals, milk, juices, coffee and tea. We only had to purchase one other meal a day. With coffee some places $3-$4, it saved us a bundle.
We will stay again.
As first time tourists in NYC, we felt safe after dark, on the subway and everywhere else. NYC citizens were helpful, some even approached us asking if we needed directions. (We must have looked lost... and were!) GREAT city, hotel, Police and residents.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Hunts Terrific Stay!
We loved our few days at the HI Express Times Square. The hotel was perfectly located so that we could easily access the many, many attractions Manhattan has to offer and yet was far enough off Times Square to escape "the action" when we needed to. Located close to H*ll's Kitchen and the restaurant zone, we enjoyed tremendous variety and even value in meals and restaurants. Some of the restaurants were recommended by staff members at the hotel as restaurants that they themselves use.
The hotel was competitively priced relative to similar hotels in New York but more importantly, we were treated more as returning friends than as temporary guests. We thank Jaime at the front desk for his hospitality--he never once failed to acknowledge us by name as we came and went from the hotel--and for his "must-see" and restaurant suggestions.
Guess what? Next visit--which we can't wait for!--we're staying at the Holiday Inn Express Times Square!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by David71 Night in Times Square
While working in New York, I decided to fly my wife in for a night in New York's Time Square area. Booked a king room at the Holiday Inn Express Times Square. First of all let me say that the view from my room was incredible. Aside from having the normal New York View, the Empire State building was right outside my window. Lit up in all its glory, it made the view amazing. The room was very adeqaute in size, and the appreance was that of a brand new hotel. The bed was amazingly comfortable. The staff was outstanding, and went out of their way to help guest with places to go and things to do. Its very special when, after walking around Times Square, you can come back to your hotel and the staff call you by name. This alone made us feel that they take pride in service. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in this area of New York.

Stayed Nov 2012 on a family vacation with two teens. Rooms are very small but typical of Manhattan. We found it hard to fit everything in the room with all our bags but having said that we would def stay here again. Rooms are clean, staff are very friendly and helpful. We were able to use sister property next door for free laundry and gym. Location is great - handy to Times Square, restaurants, subway.

When I got to my room at 3:30 pm on my arrival day, there were 2 men in my room doing some kind of construction. they looked shocked that i was checking into that particular room. Then once they left about an hour later, another service worked just walked into my room. When I asked why he would come in when i had a sign on the door he seemed confused and left. When I called the front desk, they apologized and said they would check into it. It did not make me feel very comfortable at all. I gotta say usually Holiday inn express is better than this. I think someone needs to really take a step back on service. too many hotels in NYC to have one that doesnt live up to the reputation.

Within walking distance from most sight and Penn station. I would definitely stay here again. As others have mentioned, the lifts can be quite problematic during busy times (i.e. breakfast and evening) but this by no means presented a huge problem, you just need patience! Only downside was there didn't appear to be any recognition for Priority Club Members.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sole12 Visiting Son
We stayed at this property while visiting our son in NY and it was the perfect location for our needs. We enjoyed being so close to all of the major sites in the city and it truely made our visit more enjoyable, even the weekend after the major storm - SANDY hit the area. Our hearts went out to the city that it took such a beating, but it seemed to come back to somewhat normal. The locals indicated they were half way back and would need more time to heal.

The hotel is a short walk from Times Square. Rooms are small (no smaller than a typical hotel in the area), but clean. The staff was outstanding! Really enjoyed our stay.
Disappointed in customer service from Priority Club, but that has nothing to do with this particular hotel. It was excellent.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Idaho6460 Nice people, close to everything, good food
We stayed one week and were pleased with our choice of Holiday Inn Express. We always choose HIE and wasn't sure how NYC would compare...it was nice. You just remember NYC puts everything in small spaces. If we asked for anything we had it fast and with no questions and always a smile. Breakfast was just as in any HIE we have stayed at. Husband loved the pancake machine. Walking distance to lots...subway to everything else.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Petal Take your earplugs!
Pros: Comfortable bed, great view (36th floor), good choice at breakfast, friendly staff, good location for sights, clean room.
Cons: noisy fan in bathroom, if you are on one of the floors with vending and ice-very noisy, constant "clunking" from the lift was very annoying at night, mass scrum at breakfast no matter what time you are there, room very small for three, iron and ironing board in wardrobe left very little space for clothes!
Conclusion: Take your earplugs if you are a light sleeper ( the fan in the bathroom was noisier than the jet engine that flew me there). Okay for the time we were there but would choose something a bit more expensive next time to get more room and a bit more comfort.

Survived Sandy - Staff were exemplary in their dedication to keeping the hotel operational making our experience safe one - the storm an inconvenience and not an impact
Room comfortable and facilities good - shower etc, bed comfortable. Breakfast could be crowded but plenty of food and always fresh.
All staff extremely friendly and helpful - would go there again

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by DandE Great service during the storm
From the moment we arrived until our departure the staff was very accomodating and friendly. The staff serving breakfast did an excellent job keeping up with all of the guests and always with a smile on their face. We had an extended stay in NYC due to hurricane Sandy. Each time we had another flight cancelled the hotel was able to accommodate another nights stay. Our last night the hotel was scheduled to be over booked but Alex assured us he would do everything he could for us. I woke up to find the bill under our door and figured we would be sleeping at the airport. But Alex came through for us! The concierge got us a great deal on tickets for a broadway show and dinner for our last night. He also arranged private transportation to the airport due to the taxi shortage. I would definitely stay here again. The location is great and the staff is awesome!

We were impressed with the friendly staff and excellent accomodations for our two night stay and first visit to NYC. Our room was clean and very comfortable. The "free" breakfast was exceptional. Concierge Rafael was most helpful with suggestions, directions, and obtaining theater tickets.

We were caught in Manhattan by Hurricane Sandy but the responses to our needs by the HI staff of the 210-room hotel--from Jaime at front desk to Murati in guest services--were tailor-made for the stresses brought on by Nature. The HI housekeeping provided everything we asked and the room was expertly taken care of, the breakfasts were hot and plentiful and served with good cheer, and when we were able to make our escape, a car we requested was ready on time. Kudos HIExpress.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Newbie Could not be more accommodating
The manager Frank and his staff made our stay a comfortable and attentive one! We had overnight accommodations for our team of 18. We were doing the AVON WALK for Breast Cancer on Saturday 10/21. Although breakfast was scheduled for 7am Frank made sure we started our event right with a "breakfast to go" bag for each team member. During the evening we chose to stay in for dinner and use the breakfast area. The staff was so attentitive and helpful in meeting our needs. We loved every minute of our stay and will be sure to revisit in the future.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MintaroSA Small but convenient
I had 5 nights at the Holiday Express Times Square last week and highly recommend it. First impressions were of a small, crowded foyer, but this was soon overcome by the friendly & helpful staff. Two of the three Concierges I had dealings with were charming and helpful, the other not so friendly. My room was very comfortable with all the amenities required, and the breakfasts were excellent, with a good variety of food. The all day availability of tea & coffee was great, especially when coming in at night after a show - as a non coffee drinker the tea and hot chocolate was very welcome. Also the computers available for internet for those without their own. The hotel is in good walking distance from Broadway shows, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby for evening meals. It is good to be made aware that bookings for shows etc attract a brokerage fee, so it is better to make one's own arrangements. This is true for any hotel, not just the Holiday Inn. I had a wonderful time in NY, and the hotel contributed to my enjoyment.

The room was small but had most things you need. The bed and pillows were the best we had on our holiday.
The staff were terrific, very friendly and helpfull indeed!
Hated the plastic plates, knives, forks and spoons in the breakfast room, as well as the cups in the room. The breakfast room was very over-crowded and not the best experience.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ruby Great staff, great location
This hotel is ideally located and the prices, although high, are good for Manhattan. Our first bed was very hard and the AC unit was very loud, but the staff moved us and our second room was great. The staff was very helpful and good to work with. The WiFi and the free breakfasts are a great bonus and we made good use of both of them. We did have some problems with the smoke detector - it was "fixed" twice but still went off later, once at 2:45am. We've stayed there before and would stay again.

There was no shower curtain in the bathroom. Unfortunately, I did not discover this until I tried to take shower in the morning. I was in a hurry, so I didn't have time to request a shower curtain or another room. It seems to me that the hotel should check something as basic as this.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by AlejandroC No parece un Holiday Inn

good bed, linens. Great sightseeing and theater location. Around the corner from Port Authority. Safe and secure. Halls upstairs are quite narrow, but room size is average for NYC. Clean. Nice to have a refrig for cold drinks. Good value for the price.
