Small room but new and with a good bathroom. A little bit noisy but with a great location, close to the Empire State Building, Times Square, etc... and with several metro stations around. The staff is always available to help and with a smile in their faces. Free internet ans with a free printer in the hall.

In every interaction with the staff, I felt like they actually wanted me to be there, not just that they were doing their job. Very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. The breakfast was good. Overall, a great stay.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Longfilms A Place that doesn't care about their guests
I normally don't like to bash a place unless they are very bad. I bet the hotel is a nice place to stay if you actually had the chance to stay there. I find it funny that the hotel even sent this survey since I didn't actually stay at the hotel even though I planned to. I recently had to cancel and try to postpone my stay due to my son and I getting very ill the night before we were to get into NYC for my wife's birthday. I had purchased the night at the hotel online for a good deal that unfortunately included a no refund cancellation policy. I hoped that the hotel would care enough to help us out since we'd made it a special trip for my wife and that we got very sick and weren't able to make it down. I asked for another night that we could use instead of losing a big chunk of money. The hotel wouldn't help us at all. I tried the IHG overall company and they were much more caring, but couldn't get the franchise to give anything or to care at all. I still like staying at Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express, but will not give my money or time to The Herald Square branch. There are other Holiday Inns not to far away in NYC that might be better to work with. I also won't use there online deals as well and recommend you don't as well. Hope this helps your decision about staying at the Herald Square.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by marc77040 Location is Excellent - Great Service
This is a great new addition to the Holiday Inn Express family. It's located right behind Harold Square, very close to Macy's and the Empire State Bldg. Some of the upper rooms have views of the Empire State Bldg. The rooms, while a little short on space (as are most in NYC) are organized very well. They have thought of everything you need and there are power outlets in all directions, which is great for all the devices we all tote around these days. I highly recommend this location.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by J78B Great price. Great location. Great hotel
My mom and I recently stayed here for a quick trip to NYC. It was a fabulous hotel! We never took a cab and could easily walk everywhere we wanted. It's less than 5 minutes to the Empire State Building, less than 10 minutes to Times Square, and less than 10 minutes to Penn Station. The staff, food, and room were all incredible.

Can't say enough good things about the HIExpress Herald Square. The staff was very friendly, and helpful, the room was very comfortable, and the location just can't be beat. 2 blocks from the Empire State Building, and Macy's, and only 7 blocks from Times Square.
Give it a try...you won't be sorry you did.

Only stayed for one night But Overall very pleased. Location was perfect (only few blocks from Times Square) Front Desk staff was very professional, greeted us right away, very helpful in quickly getting us through check in and out. Very helpful with holding our bags while we walked around before our departure time. Was pleasantly surprised how quiet the hotel was after noticing the large number of families staying at the hotel.

Was in NYC for a business trip. Staff was great, rooms were much larger than your typical NYC hotel. I've stayed at hotels way more expensive that were not as nice. And its in a great location. Highly recommend!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Forever35 Great value in the City
Very convenient location - at least to us that have been to the City many times so are familiar with Manhattan. Even very first time, it's a block off Broadway so once you find Broadway, you can walk to anywhere you want.
The only thing was that when we arrived early, a room wasn't ready so returned at 3pm which was a check-on time, it was not still ready. We waited at the lobby another nearly half and an hour, then we were able to check in..there were many guests seemed to have the same issue. 2 days later, when it was a vey cold rainy day, we returned to the hotel shortly after 3pm from shopping and things,a turn down service was not done. We stayed in the room anyway and about quater after 4pm, finally a house keeper knocked the door for the service. We didn't call in or anything but not to start the turn down service until after 4p is a bit slow service in my opinion. I have stayed many Holiday Inns throughout the country (I am a Priority Club member) normally when you return to a room after sightseeing or beach relaxing or whatever, a room is cleaned.
But other than that, it is a great Holiday Inn.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nancy2013 Excellent Stay
We stayed at this Holiday Inn on a quick trip to New York. It is located within walking distance of everything we needed. The room was wonderful and large for a hotel room in the city.
I had read reviews that the breakfast did not offer choices and was crowded. We did not have that same experience. They have two rooms set up for eating. The food was wonderful. They had a pancake station, eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy, fruit, and cereal. I am not sure what else they could offer for a free hotel breakfast.
The best part of the experience came at the end of our stay. We returned late Monday night to get our luggage. (The hotel does a great job storing luggage for free!) My daughter realized she left her pillow pet in the room. The staff looked in lost and found and checked several other places, but could not find the pillow. This pillow pet was very special to my daughter and the hotel staff could tell. They refused to give up. They let her go up to the room (which was not occupied) and look around. Finally, we all decided to give up. They took our number and promised to call if they were able to locate it the next morning. Just as we were walking out the door, one of the staff came into the lobby carrying the pillow pet. This staff did not give up and took finding something as simple and silly as a pillow very seriously. This meant a lot.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone going to New York. It is in a great location and beautiful, but more importantly, the staff is very attentive to the guests. We had such a wonderful experience.

Loved this hotel and would definitely stay there again. The beds ARE AWESOME, making it hard to get up and get going! :) The staff were wonderful, always helpful and friendly. Location was quite convenient right there in Midtown, not far from Times Square. It's clean and comfortable and I would stay there again! Thanks HIE!

Hotel is new and not really working yet. Ran out of desired food at breakfast repeatedly. Internet broken; front desk said "we'll fix it tomorrow". Teh place is in good location so might be a good choice if they get the bugs worked out.

We loved it. It was a great location, staff was helpful and friendly, and the rooms were new and bright and beautiful. The space was compact, as you would expect in Manhattan, but so well designed one hardly noticed. A great base for exploring. A pool or sauna were the only things lacking.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Patti10 Great Location
We only stayed one night and used points & cash to pay for room but I looked at room prices and think it is a great value. The location was ideal! We take the bus from Boston and the drop off @ 8th and 34th is a quick walk. No worries about getting cab in time for bus. We do a play and the subway is basically around the corner near Macy's,so we were able to get over to SoHo / Village easily on Monday during our quick trip. We asked for early check in to freshen up for our show and they graciously accommodated us. Front desk personnel seemed polite and helpful. The room was small-we had 2 double beds, and the "view" was of other buildings. We were on the 16th floor facing 36th Street but it was a Sunday night and I did not hear traffic. Bed was quite comfortable . 4 pillows on bed- 2 soft , 2 firm , good idea.No mini fridge but safe worked well. Loved the heated bathroom floor !! Did NOT like the non-locking rolling bathroom "door".Not much space for toiletries if you were staying longer & wanted to spread out. Shower only but good hot water.Slept well, did not hear noise from other guests. I only have TV on while getting ready or before going to bed at night, but it didn't seem to work well- no guide to pick channels and there was couple seconds delay when you change to another station. Did not call desk about it. WiFi in room O.K. You cannot check out on the TV when you are leaving like many other hotels, have to go to Front Desk. The breakfast room was SO CROWDED when I got there around 8:45 AM , they were running out of things and trying to restock . Not their fault but it was chaotic. Grabbed a few things for my daughter & I and went back to room. Choices seemed OK ( hey- it was free) Maybe have more people working the room when it"s busy to ensure food is available so people don"t have to crowd around and wait ???? Or extend it to 10 AM to ease crowding ? Luggage was stored in a locked area of the breakfast room when it wasnt in use , I liked that. I did have an over-all good impression and would stay again.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by K262 New, great location
This hotel was only open for a month when we stayed. The rooms are nicely appointed, but quite small. Bathroom is also small, but has space for toiletries in the vanity.
Pros: Great location for shopping, theater, Madison Sq. Garden
Subway is close, friendly staff that worked to be helpful, free breakfast and wi-fi, very good value for the area
Cons: Small rooms, bathroom not well insulated so anyone in the room can hear everything that is happening in the bathroom, no fridge or microwave in the rooms, no comfortable chair (easy chair) in the rooms, ran out of breakfast items (not just needing to be restocked, but out), server had trouble keeping breakfast items restocked (one server during the weekdays that we were there, two on weekend days. They need 2.) only one elevator working some of the time we were there (long wait for elevator at those times, like 5 min. or more)
Bottom line: I would stay there again with the hope that they will get some of the kinks worked out. Great for solo travelers who don't need as much space.

This was my first visit to NY & I was not sure where to stay. I could not believe the excellent deal I found here. The price was phenomenal considering the location. The room was clean and nicely appointed. I had a wonderful view of the Empire State Building from my window.
The staff was wonderful! Everyone I encountered had a smile. I've stayed in more upscale hotels across the U.S. and abroad but never have I experienced a stay where EVERYONE was nothing less than pleasant.
Sadly, my trip was short but I will definitely return. Most likely, I will stay at this location again because of the friendly staff and proximity to everything.

This is a new place and they're still working out the bugs. The wired internet didn't work the whole week that I stayed there and numerous conversations with the front desk, the telephone support folks, a visit from the staff engineer and finally e-mail exchanges with the manager did nothing to correct this deficiency. Also, they haven't completed getting all of the television programming done, so the premium channels and pay-per-view movie and HBO options mentioned in the online list of ammenities aren't there. I exchanged a few e-mail messages with the manager and again, nothing was resolved during my week long stay there.
Another gripe was the breakfast choices. I've stayed at many Holicay Inn Express locations across the country and I'm used to certain options that weren't available at this property. The lack of yogurt and skim milk was very frustrating and I ended up having to pay for breakfast.
Still another gripe is the big difference between the pictures and the room descriptions on the web site. The room was barely large enough for a king size bed and there wasn't a chair, no room for one if they'd tried to cram it in the room.
Finally, the bill that I received at the end of a week was higher than the price quoted in my reservation.
