Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Millymoo1 Excellent weekend base
Hotel in brilliant location for Metro Centre. Reception staff absolutely brilliant. Very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Had problem with the bed leg and they sorted it immediately. Rooms spacious enough, very clean and ideal for what you need. Bathroooms compact with no bath - but are also very clean and well laid out. ideal though.
Breakfast more than enough for us - good choice of fruit, cereal, yoghurts, toast, pastries etc - didn't bother with the sausages or scrambled eggs, but looked fine and plentiful.
Will definately be back - thanks for a great stay. The staff make it worthwhile.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by RSW49 Good BUT
Like most Holiday Inn express what you see is what you get. Convenient locations, pleasant staff, good clean rooms & a basic but reasonable quality breakfast included. But.. In this day & age to charge £12 for wifi acess is not acceptable especially when a majority of weekday customers are on business, so for many this is essential. Then to find the access is SO SLOW you cannot reasonably do any work! This is a major drawback for using this chain.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Salamanda Clean comfortable room, brilliant staff
The rooms are comfortable, functional and clean.
Pleased to say the soap dispensers have changed, much prefer them to the old brand. We requested a extra blanket and another duvet was promptly delivered to our room. The staff at this Holiday Inn are exceptional.

We had never been to Newcastle before so hadn't got a clue where anything was, the road system is rather !!!!!!!!, but we got around,......mainly thanks to the efficient, friendly young woman on the reception, who helped us plan where to go and what buses or taxi's to get and even phoned for an ambulance when my husband was ill. Cannot thank you enough.
The room for the 3 of us was really comfortable our son loved the fact he also had a double bed, lovely ensuite facilities. The breakfast was an added bonus as I had forgotten it was included so we gratefully received it in very pleasant surroundings. Would definitely reccommend this hotel (with it's FREE parking ) and so close to the metro centre...........
Many Many Thanks

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Comfortable stay
This was my second time at the HI Express Metrocentre. On both occasions I requested a quiet room and both times I was allocated a room in the Tyne annexe. Very nice. Before, I had a twin-room and, on this occasion, a family room. Both were very clean and with a view of the river. The staff are always so friendly too. Special shout-out to the friendly girl with the pink hair and glasses, on reception :) The Metrocentre is within walking distance, as is Asda, Ikea, etc. I will most certainly stay at this hotel in the future.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Geee Great service, extremely uncomfortable beds!
Check in was very prompt. First impressions of the hotel were very good. Unfortunately it all ends when you go to bed! We have travelled & stayed in lots of hotels but I'm afraid to say that this was the most horrendous nights sleep my 2 children, husband & I have ever experienced! The beds were so uncomfortable & the pillows & quilts are the thinnest & cheapest quality ever! So for that reason couldn't reccommend this hotel as a good night sleep is much needed especially when travelling with the family!

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by pedrosay Not up to the usual standard
On arrival we had expected the same standard as we had received two weeks previous at Holiday Inn Stirling but it fell short as Stirling presented us as gold customers with a voucher for 2 hours free wifi. We were advised that Newcastle do not do that but we could have as many 30min free sessions in the lobby. Not really what I wanted as I prefer to work in my room. My husband and I spent almost an hour trying to get signed in to the internet, everyone seemed to be in the same boat and when we went back to reception they advised that they had been having problems that day and gave us another code. Eventually I gave up and went up to my room and topped up my internet dongle to allow me to get on with my work. While we were in the lobby we decided to have a drink and when I asked for a vodka and fresh orange I was advised that they did not have any orange!!. Great start to our stay. The hot cooked breakfast is not the greatest throughout the chain and would prefer a larger choice of a continental breakfast, bring back the old way. The rest of our stay was trouble free and this experience would not stop us staying again.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by willnotreturn Bar snacks and breakfast.
We ordered 2 paninis and waited 15 minutes for these. When they arrived they were very overcooked and virtually inedible. Even if we were able to eat them, they were very overpriced at over £6 each.
Breakfast - We had to clear our own table before sitting down to eat.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by chris72 overall good stay
stayed for 2 nights overall experiance was very good, found good places to eat very close to hotel tgi`s, frankie and bennys, kfc and the skiff inn should cover for most tastes, was close to the metro centre about 15/20 min walk, however the way we were told to take which was along a railway line in reflection maybe wasn`t the safest way to go, would maybe best to take a taxi or bus if i was to stay again,,2 minor issues was i found the bed to be far to soft and the residents bar/breakfast areas which was in the reception area as well was right at the main enterance which was operated by an automatic door but when it was opened the icey blast of air was quite uncomfortable to say the least, but overall stay was very good and would recommend people to stay

My husband and I stayed here on Thursday 29th November. After a very long drive we were looking forward to unpacking and having a glass of wine.
The bar had no white wine which was very disappointing but, to be fair, they did apologise for this when we booked out the following morning.
The plates at breakfast were cold and this impacted on our overall breakfast experience. However, if you want a continental breakfast then the breakfast provided is adequate.
Finally, we use Holiday Inn Express Hotels because we find them to be value for money but would dearly love warm plates for the hot food at breakfast.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Jase22 Unconfortable Beds - Update Needed
Ive used this hotel a few times recently and each time found the bed very uncomfortable, clearly worn out the beds have been lumpy and very soft, pillows are past their best and very limp and therefore offering very little support.
This would stop me staying at the hotel again, apart from that its a typical express with good parking and transport links

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Dc14 Could be better
As a regular user of holiday inns for business this social break with my family fell well short of my usual experience with this particular location.
Unfortunately I had to make a few journeys to reception to acquire extra cups pillows and towels even though the room was set up for a family.
Breakfast as ever forget cooked breakfasts you don't do them well (across the company) concentrate on a good continental breakfast.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Shirty78 Excellent stay other than the noise!
We stayed here last weekend we have stayed here before it is comfortable and adequate for our needs (weekend shopping) the only negative we had was each morning between 06.00 -06.30 music was started to be played loudly followed by slamming doors and laughing etc. after the second morning of this until around 09.00 we found out it was coming from the room next door which happened to be staff, they were asked to turn the music down etc which they did but 5 minutes later it was turned back up.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by MugOfTea2 Convenient for Metro Centre but other guests were rowdy
We booked 2 nights (Fri, Sat) for early Christmas shopping in the Metro Centre.
* close location to Centre - a few minutes by car, 10 to 15 minute walk (though not recommended at night)
* poor soundproofing of rooms
* lots of twenty-somethings booked in who went clubbing and returned in the early hours - and didn't mind who knew they were returning (at 3.30am, 3.50am,and 4.20am#. Perhaps we were just unlucky with the other guests.
* some staff, not all, were very good
* Choice of dining nearby - TGI Fridays, KFC, Frankie and Bennys, Skiff Inn #a pub, closest of all to the hotel) - we dined both nights in the Skiff Inn, which was very good.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Wheech Good location at reasonable value
Although not in the centre of Newcastle this hotel is ideally placed for visiting Newcastle, the MetroCentre shopping and the surrounding area. It is only a 15 minute walk from the huge MetroCentre shopping, cinema and leisure complex. It is under a 20 minute walk to MetroCentre station with a frequent service into Newcastle city centre in under 10 minutes. There is also a reasonable service from MetroCentre station to Hexham and Carlisle without having to go into Newcastle, which provides access to visit Hadrian's Wall. You will find a Hadrian's Wall Bus Service at Hexham Tourist Information Office a short walk from Hexham station. All in all the location of this hotel was ideal for meeting our historical requirements. The hotel is also situated beside a good pub / restaurant and 3 other chain restaurants.

We used the hotel on our visit to the Metro Center, it is very handy, the staff are 1st class, and the whole hotel was very clean, the only small problem we had was the bed, it was just to soft for us, but did not spoil our stay.
