Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Staff were excellent Rooms (2, for my family) were spotless, smelled clean, plenty of towels. Staff were extremely courteous and kind, nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them. Fantastic location. One blot on the landscape were the men shouting and swearing at about 5am in the courtyard, but Newcastle on a weekend is a party city, so no real gripes there. I would definately recommend and stay again. October 9, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Too noisy - terrible night's sleep My room looked out on a dual carriageway - St James Boulevard - and the sound insulation was poor: traffic noise woke me 3 or 4 times and after 5.30 I couldn't get back to sleep. Breakfast mediocre and room facilities limited - no fridge, minimal clothes hanging, no biscuits with kettle - all cheapskate stuff. When next in Newcastle I will definitely find somewhere else and will recommend my colleagues to avoid this hotel. October 8, 2014

The hotel is central to many of the attractions Newcastle has to offer and very convenient for the railway station. Rooms are clean and whilst not luxurious they contain all the basics for a restful stopover. September 30, 2014

No Internet after i reported this i was told it must be my laptop so after an hour of trying i returned to the help desk where the member of staff was rude and didnt seem bothered. i had to check out early and do my webex from a starbucks hardly ideal when i work in a confidential sector. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Staff but overpriced chain off Hotels hotel is in a great position and staff were very pleasant. The rooms are okay but there is huge competition in this "budget" market and this brand does not rise to the challenge. I stay away often and this is my first time of an Express for several years, this has reminded me why that is. Breakfast choice was poor for a vegetarian and the plates were freezing!!! such a simple thing to correct . I have booked the "full monty " Holiday Inn in the same city and look forward to being impressed by the full experience! I hope so anyway. September 17, 2014

Would of been ideal to have some bacon and wide range of options to have. The lovely guy that was working the breakfast service ensuring that he was clearing tables for people to sit at was lovely but he was on his own trying to do that and it was very busy. It is a simple hotel with good amenities, a simple and tasty breakfast, and very friendly staff. Room was expectedly small but I was traveling alone. Wifi access worked flawlessly and room was comfortable. Hotel is just 5 minutes walk from the central train and Metro station (about 30 mins to airport), around the corner from many pubs and takeaway food places, and near the shopping district and the riverfront. My room faced into the courtyard where the entrance to the hotel is, and was probably quieter than facing out to the street. September 12, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by No bacon served at breakfast at all This hotel is fine in all aspects except that I found it incredulous that an English hotel did not serve bacon as a standard breakfast item. I was gobsmacked when I asked the person attending to the breakfast area, if bacon was on it's way out, only to be told "I am sorry we do not serve bacon". It is true that there were other items on offer, including suasages, but come on Holiday Inn Express, get your act together. Bacon is an absolute must and may well influence my decision whether I use your hotels in the future or take my business elsewhere. September 8, 2014

Bed was comfortable and I liked the choice of pillow. Bathroom also very clean and the towels were good quality. Breakfast was adequate but could have offered slightly more choice. September 7, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Good staff, good location, beware the stag and hens Fantastic location, five minutes stroll from everything including Central Station. The staff were friendly, and efficient. Rooms and facilities were clean and fresh. Breakfast (included) was pretty good, and they had a take-away service for people in a rush. Caveat : we left on Friday, and as we picked our bags up from the left-luggage facility, multiple stags and hens were starting to arrive. Well behaved, but there was a lot of them. I'm pretty sure the staff would be able to keep a lid on them, but if you're planning a weekend there, be aware of it. September 4, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor Experience Second time I have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Newcastle. Found this experience the worst. The room (109) had a very strong smell when I entered of what I can only describe as urine. Having had a long journey to the hotel I decided not to do anything about it. On returning to the hotel on day two I found that my room hadn't been made up - dirty towels still in a pile on the floor and my bed not made. The strong smell still also present. I did at this point report to reception who offered to clean the bathroom for me and gave me 5000 loyalty points. I then had to leave the room for an hour until the bathroom was cleaned. Clearly unacceptable from a hotel chain like Holiday Inn Express. August 11, 2014
