Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Stay but odd location We loved staying at this hotel. The accommodations were outstanding but finding the locations was very difficult. We travel this route about 6 times a year and we have looked for this place in the past but never found it. We once were about 5 blocks from the location and asked an attendant at the Git 'n Go. They did not know where it was. Finally this stay we asked someone who gave us great directions. You need more signs directing to the hotel. It's worth the stay once you can find it. We usually go all the way to Des Moines and stay but this is a better location if the directions are known. September 4, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Trouble at checkin We checked in , went to the room, key would not open the door and there was a TV on in the room. I went back downstairs and told the receptionist what happened. She said that was impossible because her computer said room was empty. Finally she accompanied back to the room where my husband was waiting. She knocked, no answer, but her key wouldn't open the door because the double lock was engaged. Eventually we were assigned a different room. I believe she should have called security after no one answered the phone or her knock. But we enjoyed the room and the breakfast. September 3, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by No restaurant or bar. No fridge in room. Very disappointed. When the room was booked was told it had a restaurant and bar. When we arrived there was not a restaurant. There was no fridge in the room. A/C could not keep up. Would not stay again. Paid more for this room then paid at Sioux City Holiday Inn that was much better. September 2, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Improving!!! They have updated a lot of areas in this hotel... New mattresses (Thank You, Thank You) some freshening up and some paint. I had a problem with the first room I was in, but was given a different one the next morning (wish it had been done the night before), but the desk was very accomodating the next morning. The breakfast area worker was the best!!!! Just like having Mom take care of you... The staff was great as always.. Will see you again in Sept. July 19, 2013

I did discuss this with the hotel folks and they all heard and understand what we were saying. Overall nice hotel July 2, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Decent hotel terrible customer service Took over 25 minutes to get me checked in. Upon arrival I watched employee play on phone and chat with other employee for 5 minutes before I was addressed. I had requested non smoking room booked through priority club (over 125 nights in last 6 months) and was given smoking room. Decided to check it out but odor was over whelming. Back to desk to request different room. Asked about welcome gift bottles of water etc.. was told it was only for priority club members, since I had booked with points, it should have been obvious I was member. Got new room, about to put key in door when staff approached and told me that room was still occupied, so back to desk again to check in for third room. Requested late checkout. Next morning maid bangs on door at 10 AM and again at 11. I forgot to put sign on door. Walls are paper thin and could hear conversations in next room clearly. Called desk and asked what time late checkout was. I was told it was for priority club members. Really? Not a good experience and not up to the normal HIX standards. Staff seems untrained or uncaring. Won't be back. May 31, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Rooms need remodeling/updated I've stay several times and all of the rooms are the same. The tubs nearly flood over and sinks barely drain. Sometimes they fix it and sometimes don't. Nearly pewked when staying on the 3rd floor from smokers. Some of the clocks don't even work. May 29, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Helpful Staff The front desk was prepared for us. She helped us with directions to Grinnell. Our only problem was finding the place. There were signs on the highway and on the exit ramp but the hotel is not on a main road so it was a little difficult to find. The handicap room was right next to the elevator, best location for it. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best kept secret in Newton, IA This hotel was right in the center of Newton town. Staff was friendly and the service was great! I liked how the front desk staff greeted at the reception and offered bottled water and snacks. The breakfast bar attendant was very cheerful and courteous. Would certainly recommend anyone visiting Newton to stay here while on business or vacation. April 19, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by bpjs Breakfast was very poor- eggs and meat poor quality over cooked and left under the heat way too long, actually burned, bread stuffs dried out, cereal had cinnamon squares mixed in with frosted flakes. Bed linens and pillows should have been replaced by new- old and very worn. Bed was not made up one day. I have stayed here several times in the last several years- it has gone downhill since our last stay- we were very disappointed to say the least. January 15, 2013

Everything else looked clean, but the carpet was covered with little bits of paper, a pretzel Goldfish, a candy cane, and a beer can (the latter two under the bed. My husband found them because he thought he'd dropped something.) I'm accustomed to better from Holiday Inn Express. Still, the beds were comfortable and the room was warm--too warm, in fact, until we turned the heater completely off. Odd, since the temp outside was in the teems and we were on the first floor. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Relaxing We went here for a weekend just to get away. The front desk was very pleasant upon check in. Our room was clean and just what we expected. We went to the hot tub and the jets were not working properly. We informed the front desk and they were addressing the issue right away. We went back to the hot tub the next morning and the jets were working correctly. The pool was very cold. We did not care as we only planned to spend time in the hot tub but if I had brought my children they would have froze. They still would have gone swimming. Our checkout was very smooth and I look forward to our next get away. We will be staying at this property again. January 2, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Hard to find and not up to usual standards We had a hard time finding this Holiday Inn Express coming from the interstate. We did not realize when booking the date that hotel was located downtown next to a convention center. Any signage directing you was minimal or non-existent. Even our GPS had a hard time. The decor in the lobby reminds one of 1985 or your great aunts idea of homey, not the polished, sophisticated look that most HI Express's seem to have. Our check-in guy was not prompt considering we had already booked the room and seemed unaware of priority club perks. Tried to take a quick swim in the pool but the water was way too cold!! It would be nice to have the water at least 80 degrees. October 25, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic Stay Staff was fabulous, bfast was superb as usual, though the bed(mattress) was a bit soft and first room by emergency exit apparently had not been used in a while and needed an air fragrance treatment! Also would have preferred hotel out at HWY I-80 rather than several miles off interstate and into downtown Newton. October 11, 2012
