The staff and service personnel were excellent overall. However, due to the height of the bed and health/age issues, my wife was unable to get into it.

This hotel was very nice. The heated pool and hot tub were great with kids and the heated pool was actually warm. Staff was friendly and helpful.
My only complaint was that the air conditioner made a weird noise when it was on

staff closed breakfast 5 to 7 minutes before the stated closing time each of our stays at this property, and the food trays are sometimes empty well prior to shutdown

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 No problems with hotel; issue with IHG Rewards
This was a fine hotel. Everything was as expected for a hotel of this vintage and size. Good location, fair price. The only issue I had was with IHG (the "preferred customer" points card). If you do not reserve your room exclusively from the IHG site, you cannot use your points, or pay with points + cash. I wanted to use up my points to help pay for the room, but I was unable to because I reserved the room from the Holiday Inn website instead of the IHG website. Next time I'll know better.

We were staying the night just traveling through the area. Friendly staff, quiet and nice rooms. Very comfortable bed and bedding!! It was so great sleeping in comfort after a day of traveling! Fridge in room to keep perishables cold. Could have a little better selection for breakfast, but it was average for Holiday Inn Express we have noticed. We would come back.

* Every table in pool area trashed - every trash can was overflowing with beer bottles and cans.
* Pool - the water looked like milk.
* Bathtub - dirty and broken. Parts of the the plumbing actually laying in the tub.
* Toilet - overflowed
* Shower - water very weak.
* All-on-all it was a bad experience. The room (esp. the bathroom) was not clean. The air temperature was never comfortable. The furnace made a lot of racket. The room was loud and never fully dark.
* When I called the Holiday Inn Express in Bloomington, IL I accidentally dialed the wrong Holiday Inn and was treated poorly. I would not recommend either Holiday Inn in Bloomington to anyone for any reason.
Waste of money and a bad experience.

I stay at this property fairly often and usually it is a wonderful experience. However this last stay on Monday night was very bad. When we arrived we were not afforded the normal greeting and drink we have received as priority club members. Then we went to our room and the door knob for the bathroom was very loose and wouldn't latch. That was repaired. In the evening when we turned down the bed there were numerous hairs at various levels in the sheets and comforter. We reported it and new bed linen was brought and my wife had to change the linen. This was very disappointing to us.

Everything was very nice for us. Room was nice, staff was very nice, plenty of good breakfast options, fitness area, warm pool and hot tub. everything we were needing for the stay........

This property is great the staff is wonderful the rooms were great , but the internet connection and service is horrible also they do not have a automatic door in the lobby to bring you luggage in the hotel you have to hold the door open yourself. I was really suprised that the brekfast bar did not have waffles.

We decided to check-in here on a spur of-the-moment decision as the winter weather was starting to settle into the area making I-55 a nightmare. The hotel was warm and inviting. The room was extremely comfortable. We enjoyed sleeping in the next morning and having a hot, quality breakfast waiting for us when we got up.
A definate return for us.

The reason why I am only giving this hotel a "Average" rating is because we stayed at the hotel at the same time a group of volleyball players were. Our hotel room was great, nice and clean and nicely decorated. But, we were unable to get a good night sleep because the volleyball players who were staying upstairs were constantly either doing body slams or smacking the ball against the wall for several hours. They were loud and totally unbearable. We called the front desk a couple of times to complain, to tell the other guest to stop doing what they were doing, but the volleyball players never did until very late (probably from passing out). I felt the hotel staff could have done more in this situation. I don't see how 1 set of guest's rights to cause horrible noise, supersede many other guest's' rights to get a good night sleep. I would have kicked them out and let them stay at another place.

Nice hotel, new and clean. The lobby is beautiful and the rooms are quite nice.
However, we were given a first floor room, and I told the clerk we usually stay on an upper floor. He told me change is good. I should have insisted, but I took the room.
The "herd of elephants" above us never slept apparently, as the clomping and stomping went on until the wee hours and started again about 6 a.m. Not much noise protection at this hotel.
I would have shared this information with the check-out clerk, but she didn't ask me if I enjoyed my stay. She acted like I was a moron because I handed her my key. "Didn't you get a receipt under your door?" Yes, I did. But I still like a little thank you when I leave. I also like to share my experience, good or bad.

Holiday Inn Express has generally been alright in the past, this trip the pool was cold and the kids were disappointed that there were not pancakes or waffles for breakfast. The pillows were too full.

First off, trying to find the place in the rain, the nav system had me turn right instead of left, which ended in front of another hotel chain on Plaza. I called the Holiday Inn Express for directions and the woman at the front desk kept telling me there was no [named the other chain] anywhere she knew (turned out to be across Veterans Parkway). You'd think that since it was directly across Veterans Parkway and also on Plaza someone might have noticed. Finally found it because she'd mentioned a Walmart, which I finally found after three tries.
The bed was hard as a rock. The only thing that saved me was that by the time I arrived (after midnight because of the rain) I was so exhausted, I could have slept on granite.
The next night, there was a party in a room down the hall with loud people (both adults and children) going up and down the hallway (kids running, adults talking, sometimes arguing, very loudly. This went on four SIX HOURS. I reported it three hours in, but there was no noise abatement.
Would I stay here again? NO...just ...no. And FWIW, we're platinum IHG members, so we're generally fairly fond of this chain and stay at IHG properties often for both business and leisure. Worst IHG property I have EVER stayed in.

When we arrived at 1:30pm I greated "Ben" with "hi, how are you". His response was, "I'm fine unless your wanted to check in early"! We returned at 3pm, his suggestion, and one room was ready, one not.He then offered, in front of me, a better rate to another guest, while he was finishing up with our check in. I requested same rate. And he said, "ok I'll do it but only for one room!!!
It certainly was NOT a welcoming reception.
I've stayed at your properties in the past and very disappointed in this one!

Check in was very fast and friendly. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The indoor pool was just perfect for my teenage daughter and her friend. The breakfast was just fair but was complementary so who am I to complain!

Our stay was mostly great. We had an emergency at the last minute when about to check out. We called the desk to ask for a later check out. Even a half hour. We were told that they could not do it. We explained that one of the kids had gotten sick, to no avail. We were told we had to leave or would get charged for another day. Not very nice.

The gentleman at the front desk was very helpful. Even called the taxi company for us to see what the cost would be to go to the ISU Redbird Stadium. Room was very nice. Breakfast was good. Location is right where it needs to be.

Sometimes the little things make a big difference. A lot of people use sweeteners. Probably more than use sugar. The only choice at the breakfast bar was sweet and low. Most people I know do not care for the aftertaste. Is it really that difficult to provide a couple of choices? Equal and Splenda are used by many. Never been in a motel where I couldn't find one or both along with sweet and low. Had to go to my car to get sweetener to put in my coffee.Otherwise, I nice comfortable place to stay.

We were placed in a room right next to the library and there was a party there (very loud with music). We could hear everything right in our room. We have two young children and were trying to get them to sleep but could not due to the noise. Called the front desk and was told they would ask them to be quiet. However, the noise continued and so we made a second call. At that time we were told they were paying customers and they could be as loud as they wanted (was I not a paying customer too). I was then given the option to wait until they were done with their party or move (after 10:00 at night) my children to another room. It was one of the worse stays at a hotel I have had.

We had to ask to give Priority Club number upon check-in because the man who took our reservation did not give me the chance to give it, and that same rep did not ask if we were Priority Club members at check-in. The rep confirmed the reservation (two night stay) and did offer an upgraded room. The breakfast bar was lacking in options and quality in comparison to the many other HIE properties we have visited. On day two we were locked out of our room when returning after 8 pm. The rep on duty at the desk said the hotel records identified us as having only a one night stay and that was why our key cards did not unlock our room. He did apologize and gave new keys. Upon entering our room we found that housekeeping had not cleaned, made the bed, or left clean towels. We again spoke with the front desk rep, received an apology and an explanation that housekeeping was gone for the day. We obtained clean towels. We have a child in college in Normal and we will visit often in the coming year but will most likely not choose HIE again even though we usually prefer IHG properties.
