Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Dirty, cold room but it did the job The staff on reception and the entire booking process was great, however the room itself was very dirty, not to mention freezing cold! Lots of spaces in the car park and handy being so close to Asda. I wanted of wanted to stay more than one night but it did the job. November 13, 2014

It has happened now for the second time (following last week's stay - where I have explicitly asked the staff to correct the error) that the ACTUAL DAILY RATE was charged instead of the agreed corporate rate. I have been staying at this hotel for more than two years now and since 2-3 months the service performance at the check-out has worsened significantly. Today it took me 20 minutes to get the invoice - a very simple invoice with just the stay on it; no extras. Ben, Tom, Josh, Ulla are doing a great job - but the newcomers are really terrible: polite but incompetent; apologetic but no remedy offered (not even simple things like a free fast-wifi voucher); even worse: they do not know how to operate the system - information printouts instead of invoices ... on a general note: why can't I pay and get my invoice upon arrival??? Would save time and hassle - there is no minibar anyway ... It is really frustrating when you have to spend 20 minutes explaining that you are a corporate customer (visiting >2 yrs) when instead you could go and have breakfast before you have your first business meeting - I WAS ASKED TO STAY ANOTHER 10 MINUTES BECAUSE THATS WHEN "THE KNOWLEDGABLE MANAGER WOULD ARRIVE" ... how on earth can you ask your customer that??? Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great Staff, Moderate Property The staff were great. Very helpful at check in and friendly throughout the stay. Hotel free wi-fi is very slow (but it is free). It requires an email for login so you may want to use a burner email to avoid spam. The room was not wonderfully maintained. The walls by the bed were dirty and there was some black mould on the grout at the bottom of the shower. There was a bit of a funny smell in the hallway too. Lots of cleaning products/air fresheners that didn't quite mask a whiff of damp. It was cheap though. October 29, 2014

Conveniently situated for the city with a bus stop right outside to avoid parking hassle. It's a pity the site is spoiled by a crumbling sports centre but don't be put off. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great staff, nice room Great first impression upon checking in. Chap on the front desk in the evenings was genuinely excellent throughout our stay. Room was clean and comfortable. Bathroom facilities were again clean and up to date. Bed was a touch on the soft side for my taste but still slept fairly well throughout. Great location having the use of the Virgin active health club next door as well as an ASDA supermarket opposite. Really nothing to complain about and would definitely stay again when in Norwich on business. October 19, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good place to stay - don't eat there Best feature; Asda is in the carpark! Stayed here for a sporting event. Hotel was convenient and everything you would expect from a known brand EXCEPT; big mistake to eat there in the evening. We were a party of 16 and we arrived at 8pm so didn't want to go out and find food. Chose to eat in. 2 girls on duty did their best but were totally overwhelmed. Manning front desk, bar, waitressing us AND preparing the food just didn't work. Food took ages, some was burned, chips dried out, portions far, far too small and it all came out 1 at a time with a wait of at least 5 minutes between each person. Our first finished eating nearly an hour before our last got their food. And ll for normal restaurant prices! Some of us walked over to Asda after we had eaten to buy food to keep us going. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quite Surprised We were only staying one night and were expecting quite basic accommodation, but were quite surprised at the quality of the hotel, the room and the facilities available. The staff were friendly the breakfast adequate and the overall value for money very good. The hotel had free wifi, which is now important albeit the signal was not great and only basic browsing possible. Overall a good experience I would happily repeat in the future. October 7, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly service but bad smell We visited the Norwich express Holiday Inn last weekend. The reception/dinning/bar area is great and the staff were friendly and helpful however our room was poor in comparison. When we arrived the carpets were dirty/stained and there was an awful smell in the bathroom. We informed reception and they put something down the drains and when we returned from dinner it was much improved. However just as I was getting the children into bed we then found the toilet was blocked, not what I needed at bedtime after a days travelling! The reception staff were quick to come and unblock it, even at 20.30, but by morning the dreadful smell had returned and left us gagging when we entered the bathroom. Also the windows in the room don't appear to open so we couldn't open them to get some fresh air. We have stayed here before and came back as we had a positive experience last time, based on this experience we may well try somewhere else next time. September 19, 2014

The air con in the room was not working and the noise from the gym next door was very loud. Evening menu was very poor so had to drive into Norwich to eat. Breakfast was hardly anything available so had to stop at a Costa Coffee. Overall felt that the staffs were let down by the tools very poor value for money. September 8, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by not one of the better holiday inn hotels The parking was awkward and we were not advised on check in the need to give our registration to avoid getting a fine. The room was tired the ceiling was peeling from what looked like a flood from the room above. The shower again was tired and needed replacing with poor water pressure I have stayed in many holiday inn hotels across the country and this is definitely not one of the better ones and hope its on the list for improvement August 22, 2014

The staff were always friendly and helpful and although its a no frills experience, it works and they charge a fair price for what you get. If you are a Virgin Health member you also have the club next door which is very handy. August 18, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by An average stay This was my second visit to this hotel, it is located on a complex with Asda (Walmart) Supermarket, Virgin Active Gym and a forlorn abandoned ice skating rink. Room was quite adequate but the carpet was looking a bit tired and the shower curtain would have been much better being replaced with a screen door. Breakfast was adequate if only it had been replenished faster and the milk dispenser had been working on the first day. Internet was acceptable, but annoying having to register each time accessed. Tip: just make up an email address!. My main gripe was the elevator button to the 2nd floor did not work and was not rectified during my stay. Otherwise an acceptable stay at this HIE. August 8, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great place for city break we recently stayed here on a saturdy night , the staff on reception were really friendly and helpful , sorted taxi out , got me bus fares ,explained about the hotel , and all without being prompted , the hotel is about 10 mins from centre a £6.50 taxi fare ( free phone in hotel ) the room and bathroom was spacious , bed comfy , the hotel was full , and some guests were noisy , but that is not a hotel problem , just inconsiderate people , the breakfast had a good variety , the eating area was clean and had fresh flowers on table ( nice touch ) and a free paper to read with your breakfast , shall stay here agin , very easy to reach from the main road , and the staff really made it for me .
