Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Little below HIX expectations. Hard to get attention of service desk personnel either by phone or at the desk on the first night. Need a better call system. There were two persons also waiting to check in but no staff. Had to move to a different room do to children in room above but nicely accommodated by HI staff once they could be found. Hot water in the food area was always empty. It is really a nice extra to have a manager's reception. January 19, 2015

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Room 211 is terrible. This room is adjacent to the stairs going to the second floor. You can here every person walking up and down the stairs. This is not the worst thing! The door to get to the second floor does not have the hinge set properly, so for every person that uses the stairs...THE DOOR SLAMS SHUT!! Adjust the hinge so the door doesn't slam. Did not even get an hour of sleep. As a Platinum member, there is no way I will risk staying on that second floor ever again. Too many other options. January 15, 2015

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Okay but needs work We have stayed now at many Holiday Inn Express Hotels. This one is probably at the bottom of our experience, but overall we like them. The biggest issue with the Onalaska Express is it needs updating. It is sometimes difficult to tell if things are dirty or just so worn and stained that they look dirty. This is especially true in the dinning area (seats, etc.). Also, check a long wood work and the doors, fixtures, etc. The heating/Air units also need updating. We did find the staff which which we had interaction to be attentive, and we slept fairly well. It wasn't so bad that we wouldn't go back, it's just that this place needs a little TLC.
