Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by An Incredible Experience The staff at Holiday Inn in Onalaska provided a very warm welcome to our entire military group of 22. They were so accommodating, allowing us to have a birthday party in the breakfast area. The breakfast staff is so friendly every morning. We stayed a week and felt like we were at home. The front desk staff is always so friendly. Haley and Shiloh got us checked in quickly and made sure we had everything we needed. They were very helpful with finding great places to eat. The amenities at the hotel are great. There is a workout room and an indoor pool. The hotel is right in the heart of Onalaska with a lot of great food and fun in the surrounding area of Lacrosse. Thank you for your great service. We definitely plan to come back very soon!! November 20, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by short of expectations This property is getting a little out dated. We love the location and breakfast, but the overall property is lacking compared to other HIE properties in WI. The business center had no printer (twice in a month span), the exercise room was useless with all equipment broken, and the pool area was blocked by toilets sitting out in the hallway. If we are going to pay full price, I expect a fully operational property. WE SHOULD GET SOME ADDITIONAL POINTS FOR THIS STAY FOR THE AT BEST AVERAGE EXPERIENCE. November 17, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great service, location and stay Great location in Onalaska, WI; breakfast was excellent each morning with a good selection to please everyone and variety daily. Room and beds were very comfortable and clean. All staff were professional and welcoming. Room size was great for a family of four. Didn't use the pool or workout room so can't comment on these. Our only issue was our first room the bathroom door wouldn't close and the toilet ran non-stop. Front desk moved us to a new room when requested. All staff were accommodating and professional throughout the stay. Very surprised by the first room considering the rest of our experience. We will be back. November 16, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Strong chemical smell. Very nice facility, but our room had a very strong, nauseating chemical smell to it. It appeared that perhaps one of the chairs had been cleaned with a strong solvent. Staff person agreed and moved us across the hall where there was still the chemical smell but much more tolerable. The next morning, the maid was mopping the lobby with a very pungent ammonia that again was sickening. Keeping things clean is wonderful, but you can overdo it. November 7, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Breakfast staff The overall experience was good. The front desk service was great and helped us with all our need. The room was spacious and clean. But... the weekend ended on a sour note. We had to leave early in the morning for a game and missed breakfast. We got back to the hotel right at 10am and asked if we could still eat breakfast( which everything was still out) and the rude lady said we close at 10am. My kids and myself were able to grab some things, then she started taking the tray out of the warming area as we were trying to get something quick, she took the hot food and through it away. A man conplained and she brought out some sausage link that they didn't toss out yet. What a waste... I thought that the customer comes first.. Not there... November 6, 2013

The staff was friendly, the room clean and quiet, the bed comfortable and breakfast good. Also, the wifi service which is often weak at motels worked well. We left an item in our room, called the next day and they sent it to us. Over and above what they needed to do. Thanks to the staff. We would certainly stay here again. October 3, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Location - spacious room We came to visit with our daughter who's attending UW-L and go on a family bike ride. The room was clean and very spacious which is very nice since most places are cramped with 2 queen beds. Was a little higher priced because of Octoberfest going on and couldn't get a UW rate. But we were happy to be close to the campus and not 25 miles away. The Pool was nice - water was a little cloudy so could use a cleaning but not extremely bad. Our bath tub drained very slow so had to wait a while for the water to drain before the next person could shower. But still had a nice stay. Would definately come back and recommend it to others. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Property The Hotel was clean and immaculate. The staff was outstanding in their level of service. We enjoyed our stay and were sorry when we had to leave. The only negative comment I would make is the internet connection. I have satyed at IHG properties in Asia and everyone I have stayed in gives me at least a 5-10mb connection. Here we get a 1mb connection free and 2mb if we want to pay for it. This is not acceptable to me. I am a retired network engineer and always travel with a laptop. I need bandwidth to do my day to day activities on the net. The advertising on TV for this member of the IHG group is geared toward business men. To do their business they would also need to have a bteer internet speed connection. Internet access now days is not that expensive anymore. I personally have 30mb in my home. This is an issue I feel needs to be addressed. Why can I get great speed in Asia and not here in my own country? Other then this one concern the hotel was an outstanding value for the money. Breakfast was delicious with lots of choice including the ever so yummy cinnamon rolls! Pool was great, the kids very much enjoyed themselves. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good location, housekeeping poor This was our second stay at the Holiday Inn Express in LaCrosse, WI. The location/price is very nice and their rooms are comfortable and perfect our weekend visit to the city to see my son in college. The rooms facing the southeast have a nice view and it is very quiet. Unfortunately I found the cleanliness of our room to be poor. The toilet had obviously not been cleaned before our arrival and one of the beds had numerous hairs on the sheets. The shower curtain smelled of mildew. The staff at the front desk was wonderful about making things right. She changed the bedding and switched the shower curtain immediately. She then offered to refund a portion of our room rate. Because of her response I will stay again. All-in-all this would be a good place to stay. September 20, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Enjoyed staying at this Holiday Inn Express The room was great. It had a sofa and sitting area separated from the bedroom. Nice large flat screen TV. The room was decorated nicely and the furniture was fresh and clean. The bed was super comfortable with a choice of firm and soft pillows. The shower was large and furnished with nice smelling shampoos and soaps. We were traveling with our family dog and it was appreciated that dogs are welcome there. The hotel is adjacent to an Olive Garden (same parking lot). It is also located in a shopping area with many other restaurants to choose from. We ate down the block at Ciatti's which was excellent. We would recommend staying at this hotel. September 9, 2013

The desk staff at both check in (9 pm) and checkout the next morning had smiles, were friendly and helpful. Wish the price was a little more competitive with other facilities as this is higher priced; but I guess you get what you pay for. We will be back. September 3, 2013

This was my fourth trip to the La Crosse area and each stay I tryed a new hotel hoping to find something that fell into the "nice" category ....this was not it! Although the front desk staff was wonderful, the rest of the hotel looked like lipstick on a pig....I realize that the market is what it is and competing hotels are very much the same..nice people - old run down faculties - but the prices in the area are high compared to other markets where there are more modern properties. If my business brings me back to the area I will be going back to one of the other hotels I've stayed at in the past. September 1, 2013

The hotel could use a number of repairs, new paint and elevator worked sporadically. I stay in Holiday inn express hotels due to the points and free breakfast but may think twice before booking. We had two queen beds and a sofa sleeper so there was ample room for everyone. We have stayed at the hotel in the past and enjoy the quiet, relaxing atmosphere. The staff was very responsive to any needs we had. We always ask for extra towels and always receive them. August 28, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not bad; good staff, but overpriced and had a few issues We stayed at this Holiday Inn Express on short notice as we had to drive 7 hours and stay overnight to attend a family funeral the next morning. The Onalaska Hampton Inn was booked, so we were glad there was a room available here. Making reservations was easy. They accepted our (very minimal) AAA discount but said they did not have bereavement rates so that could not go into consideration on the price of the room. The rooms looked as if they had been half remodeled. It smelled like the carpet was new (which is great). It looked as if the room had been recently repainted (with spatters on the light fixtures). The room smelled new thanks to the carpet. The TV was modern. But the furniture was old and a bit beaten-up. Dated. Still, if they had to choose what to replace, the carpet was a good choice. Here's my main problem. There was hair in the bathroom. Not a ton of hair, but just a piece here and there (and it was not ours!). I HATE finding hair on a "clean" towel or "clean" bathroom floor. It looked as if the corners of the bathroom floor were never cleaned. PLEASE make an effort to get all of the previous guests' hair out of the bathroom! The shower had incredibly great water pressure, but (this is another one of my pet peeves) the drain couldn't keep up so that when you are done with your shower you are standing in water and soap scum. I hate that. We did get the water and granola bars when we checked in (as rewards members) but I was a bit surprised that the bottled water was warm. Seems it would be easy and thoughtful to keep the bottled water in a fridge. I must say that the staff was VERY friendly and helpful. Extremely nice; everyone I dealt with from front desk staff to cleaning crew. I did not try the complimentary breakfast so can't comment on that. The room was QUIET which was great (only heard the neighbor's shower running in the morning) and we were right next to the elevator. Never heard the elevator at all. The pillows were weird (you may want to bring you own!). They are very large and over-filled. Not that comfortable but the bed itself was comfortable. Perhaps my biggest problem was the price. With some shabby room furniture and the hair in various parts of the bathroom, I thought the room was WAY overpriced at around $150 including tax (and AAA discount). I would have paid about $80 for this room and have stayed in nicer places that cost more like $90-$100 a night. August 19, 2013

Comfortable bed; good-sized bathroom that allows you to actually move around (unlike many other hotel rooms where you can barely turn around in...) Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wisconsin Charm at its BEST!!! In the military, I travel quite a bit and have been a platinum member of Holiday Inn for 11 years. The staff at this hotel are the best!! Shiloh was so helpful with a project that I was working on for my boss. She really went out of her way to assist me. She made sure we had a great snack pack. When we were looking for quaint local restaurants, the management staff spent a lot of time helping us to find something just right. At breakfast, the ladies were so helpful. They told us all of the great sites to visit in the area. The variety of breakfast foods was amazing and the area was kept very clean. The room was fantastic and very clean. It was larger than most Holiday Inn rooms and it had a living room section with a couch that was great for getting work done. The location is really good. It was only 5 minutes from the airport for easy travel and it was close to the waterfront which had great restaurants and an amazing view. Thank you for all of your help and for showing us all that Wisconsin has to offer. The Cheese Curds are fantastic!! I will definitely be back next year for the same exercise and will stay at your hotel again!!! August 1, 2013

The hotel was very well built because we didn't hear anyone. There was a 12-13 year old tournament going on that weekend and we didn't hear a thing, and we were right down the hall from the pool. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Needs Updating We stayed at this motel twice in June 2013. The first stay was a turnoff and we thought of canceling our reservation for a week later. When walking in the lobby, it was dirty and needed attention bad. If it gets that dirty, it needs to be vacuumed more than once a day. First impressions are huge. We were not recognized as honor members or given a courtesy gift. Our room was old and everything about it felt old. We had a suite with a sofa but only 1 TV. It was hard to see the TV from the sofa. In the morning we went to make coffee in our room but there was no coffee :-(. For the price of the room, it was very disappointing. Because of the convenience of this hotel on the interstate, we did try staying there again and the experience was better. We had a suite with a whirlpool but the room was updated. The whirlpool was very old and scary though and needs updating. Again only 1 TV in the room which you could not see unless you were in bed. We did not use the sofa because you could not see a TV from there. We had a $25 extra charge on our account which we told would be refunded after we checked out. It was like a deposit but would be credited back to our credit card. I had never heard of this and called the desk and was told to not worry about it but it was policy and would be refunded. After checking my credit card account a couple times there was no credit so I called the hotel and they apologized and said they would make sure that was credited. The manager was very nice when I told her about our experience and asked us to try back the 3rd time and hopefully would have a good experience. The hotel is in a nice location for interstate travel/restaurants/shopping but needs more updating and better customer service and staff training. July 3, 2013
